Thoughts are that the new rule change was put into place to protect against late scratches – players being announced out of the game after lineups lock, or after you cannot make any edits to your teams. However, if you are forced to drop a score from a mid-to-high-priced player you not only have virtually zero chance at winning any sort of large field tournament, but you are also drawing extremely thin in cash games unless that player is highly owned. So rather than wait back and ineffectively try to use the rule as a safety net when a player is a late scratch, be proactive and optimize your lineup for eight roster spots.
