Lesson 5: Condensing Your Research Time
If you’re a RotoGrinders Premium subscriber, you know already: I put in a lot of time researching each MLB slate. I put in a lot of time and words writing up most MLB slates. I have the time to do that – but many of you do not have the time to put in this same amount of “heavy lifting” in MLB yourself. Most of you have to grab an hour here, thirty minutes there. The cool thing? That’s not so bad at all. The cool thing? If you were able to quit your job tomorrow and start working on MLB DFS full-time (with the same bankroll approach you have at present), the boost to your profit and success would be minimal. Seriously.
To put that another way: “More time” for research is great. But with the tools and resources available these days, you are not taking an appreciable hit by not having that “more time” available to you just yet – as long as you approach things correctly.

12 in One?
In 2016, I took over as Premium Content Director at RotoGrinders, and we began an intentional shift toward turning our Premium product into (what we feel is) the best impact-per-dollar DFS platform on the Web. A big part of that was expanding our “Flagship Features” (which, at the time, consisted solely of my MLB Edge – back then, available each Tuesday and Friday). We added CheeseIsGood to the team for that article, and we expanded to five days per week. (In 2017, we expanded further: our Flagship Features are now available seven days per week, all season long!) Throughout the 2016 season, I was pumped about our new Premium platform. Our writers loved what we were doing, and subscribers loved it as well.
That was all pretty intangible, though. It wasn’t until I arrived in Toronto for the DraftKings live final that I realized just how big of an impact our new content was having:
That weekend, 12 different people approached me to thank me.
That weekend, 12 different people told me that they would not have made it to the live final without our Premium product, and without the Flagship Features CheeseIsGood and I put out each day.
Twelve different people landed a one-in-160 shot at one million dollars and credited our daily breakdowns with helping them get there.
That’s pretty cool, sure. But more than that, it demonstrates just how valuable it can be to let others do the research for you!
