John Carlson

Carlson Like the Home Cooking

This may be a perfect spot to insert John Carlson into your line-ups as he has found the score sheet in Washington’s last three home games. This should come as no surprise as the 23 points he has registered in front of the home crowd ranks second in the league where defensemen are concerned when found in that situation. Columbus has given up at least three goals in each of their last seven games which bodes well for Carlson as he and his team mates should have plenty of opportunities to put the puck in the net this evening.

Mark Stone

Just A Stone's Throw Away

We all know the odds on tonight’s Ottawa/San Jose game favors the home team but that doesn’t mean that the other team won’t score. Ottawa has shown some spunk over the last two games by winning in both Anaheim and Los Angeles and will look to hit the ‘west coast trifecta’ this evening. Mark Stone will easily be overlooked this evening but could be a sneaky play here as he has found the scoresheet in 17 of the past 22 games. He has also racked up six multi-point games over that time frame while leading the team with 20 goals and 28 assists. With Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, Toronto and Boston all in action this evening Stone may be a decent way to deviate from the pack and possess a late hammer as well.

Brayden Point

Tampa Bay Lightning

Be On Point This Evening

With Nikita Kucherov as his line-mate, Point is in the exact predicament as Draisaitl is in and that is a good thing for us. Point has collected 15 of his 60 points over the last eight games which should bode well for the Lightning this evening as they play a Buffalo team that lost by a score of 4-3 in Carolina last night. You will have to pay a little more here as he finds himself ninth at the center position on FanDuel where salary is concerned while he shoots up to the sixth spot over at DraftKings. He is in good company however as Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon, Sidney Crosby, Auston Matthews and John Tavares are all ahead of him in salary on both sites.

Draisaitl Continues Supporting Role

Draisaitl is always one of those overlooked players as he is standing in the direct shadows cast by teammate Connor McDavid. Edmonton has a decent match-up on home ice this evening as they entertain an Arizona team that has won their share of road games over the last few weeks. With Connor McDavid skating with him in both the even strength and power play situations Draisaitl has been able to light the lamp seven times to go along with five assists over the team’s last nine games. He also has been able to have the lead role in 23 of the 54 points he has been credited with this season. His salary is also manageable as well as he ranks 16th on the winger salary list on FanDuel but gets bumped up to 10th where DraftKings is concerned.

Sebastian Aho

Carolina Hurricanes
1/11/19, 2:11 PM ET

This centre has a great matchup despite playing on a back to back.

The Carolina Hurricanes continue to lead the league in possession and are doing so with a 55.31 CF%. Additionally, their CF/60 of 67.18 is also atop the NHL. The Buffalo Sabres are sitting average to below average in this and going on the road to Carolina doesn’t bode well. However, Carolina is on the tail-end of a back to back so that is a bit concerning but with how dominant they have been from a possession stand point, it shouldn’t be an issue. Sebastian Aho, Teuvo Teravainen and Brock McGinn are playing on the top line and with Aho and Teravainen playing on the top power play unit together, they make for a great two-man stack if you don’t want to roster McGinn.

Johnny Gaudreau

Columbus Blue Jackets
1/11/19, 1:57 PM ET

Simply put: he's the hottest player in the NHL.

Johnny Gaudreau’s 16 goals since December 1st lead the NHL and his 37 points are tied with Nikita Kucherov for the NHL lead. Linemates Sean Monahan and Elias Lindholm have been crushing it as well, as Monahan is tied for 5th in NHL scoring and Lindholm tied for 10th since December 1st. This team is hosting a Florida Panthers team that is on the tail-end of a back to back after blowing a 3-2 lead with 8 seconds left in the game and then losing in a shootout to the Edmonton Oilers last night. This game screams letdown for the Panthers so I expect the Flames to put up a big number.

Ryan Getzlaf

Anaheim Ducks
1/11/19, 2:58 PM ET

This centre is in a sneaky-good spot tonight.

The Anaheim Ducks are a team that struggles to score, but over the last three weeks they’ve been playing much better at least from a possession stand point (0-6-3 in their last 9). They’ve put up the 7th best CF/60 at 61.83 and a respectable 52.62 CF% which ranks 6th over that time. Their opponent, the Pittsburgh Penguins, have struggled allowing a league-worst 67.1 CA/60 and a brutal possession of 43.88 CF% which also ranks last. The top line for the Ducks is Ryan Getzlaf, Rickard Rakell and Daniel Sprong and they are who I have some interest in with this matchup. Rakell and Getzlaf play on the top power play unit together so a two-man mini-stack makes sense.

Tage Thompson

1/11/19, 12:46 PM ET

Return of Jack Eichel raises value of second year Sabre

While there is no guarantee Tage will stay with Jeff Skinner and Jack Eichel on the team’s top line tonight as it wouldn’t be surprising to see Sam Reinhart find his way up there, Tage is still an interesting source of salary relief. Other than zero shots on goal in a tough matchup in Boston, Thompson has taken the following shot totals in his most recent games: 6, 5, and 5. Though Carolina figures to dominate shot share in this game, their goaltending has been among the worst this season. Thompson is a nice target in tournaments with Eichel and Jeff Skinner who is making his return to Raleigh.

Jack Roslovic

Carolina Hurricanes
1/11/19, 12:33 PM ET

Nikolaj Ehlers' injury leaves ice time for young Jet

Jack Roslovic has not done much over his last two games, going pointless with just a shot on goal, but in his first game without Ehlers, Roslovic had three shots on goal and a power play assist against Dallas. Roslovic is talented but doesn’t see the same opportunity as some of his teammates. However, on a back to back it wouldn’t be surprising to see him approach 15 minutes. Roslovic skates on the second line with ice cold Laine and lackluster Bryan Little, but this is a cheap stack to get exposure to the home team. In any event, Roslovic’s cheap price tag makes him a cash staple in a stars and scrubs approach.

Adam Henrique

Edmonton Oilers
1/11/19, 12:28 PM ET

Cheap center looks for duplicate performance against Penguins

The Ducks have lost nine consecutive games. In fact, the last time they won was three weeks ago against this same Pittsburgh team. Since then, Pittsburgh has been on fire while the Ducks have gone cold including a miserable effort against Ottawa last time out. In the Ducks and Penguins meeting last month, Henrique had a goal and an assist, and with two stud lines worth targeting tonight, Henrique provides some much needed salary relief as he and his linemates get the best matchup of any of Anaheim’s lines tonight. Adam is a low-owned contrarian option on this short four game slate.

Jonathan Quick

New York Rangers
1/10/19, 1:53 PM ET

Goalie Heavily Favored at Home

The Kings have had a disastrous season thus far, so it’s been rare to see them heavily favored against anyone. A visit from the Ottawa Senators on the second of a back-to-back is enough to list them as -230 favorites. The Senators have been atrocious on the road with a 5-14-1 record. Quick is also coming off a shutout in his last outing against the Oilers. I expect him to pick up the all-important win bonus tonight.

Jordan Greenway

Buffalo Sabres
1/10/19, 1:51 PM ET

Cheap Winger Seeing First Line Action

Jordan Greenway has been seeing time on the first line with Eric Staal and Mikael Granlund. While he hasn’t been turning it into elite fantasy stats, opportunities generally breed production in this industry. Greenway has been seeing about 15 minutes of ice time lately, and is also on the number two power play unit. At just $2700 on DraftKings, you’re just looking for an appearance on the scoresheet, which I think is attainable tonight.

Artemi Panarin

New York Rangers
1/10/19, 1:49 PM ET

This winger is on pace for his best offensive season.

Although his goal totals are down a bit, soon-to-be unrestricted free agent Artemi Panarin is on pace for his highest point total of his career — 90. He leads the team in assists by 11 and points by 3, despite missing 2 games. The Columbus Blue Jackets host the Nashville Predators who are on the tail-end of a back-to-back after an OT win in Chicago last night. The Predators are likely tired and with Joonas Korpisalo in net for the Blue Jackets, this could be a high-scoring affair on both sides of the puck as Juuse Saros rounds out the battle of the backups matchup.

Nikita Kucherov

Tampa Bay Lightning
1/10/19, 1:45 PM ET

Hart Trophy Candidate in Great Matchup

Nikita Kucherov has been great all year, but his stretch over the last month has been off the charts. Kucherov had eight multi-point games in his last nine appearances. They face a Carolina team with a losing record on the road, while Tampa Bay is an absurd 18-4-0 at home. He can be stacked with even-strength linemates Braden Point and Tyler Johnson, or additionally with Stamkos or Hedman on the powerplay.

Tyler Seguin

Dallas Stars
1/10/19, 1:44 PM ET

This centre is on a bit of a goal-scoring tear.

Tyler Seguin has picked up the pace in the goal department as of late with six goals in his last four games and a total of eight points. The Dallas Stars are rolling with their stacked top line with Seguin centering Jamie Benn and Alex Radulov as the Stars visit Philadelphia to take on the Flyers. This line always makes for an elite play because the trio play together on the top power play unit and the Dallas PP is ranked 9th in the NHL, converting on 22.1 percent of their opportunities. On the flip side, the Flyers penalty kill ranks 28th with just a 75.2 percent success rate.
