Adam Schenk stands out as a great source of value

The idea of building a stars and scrubs type of lineup is very much in play this week. With the start of a new season, one can make a very strong argument that pricing at a certain point does not reflect talent. If you are looking for a more proven value to attack then Adam Schenk is a player worth taking a look at. Any player that can overcome having maybe the worst last name in the game of golf should always cross our minds as we build rosters. All kidding aside. Schenk is a consistent ball striker with a decent track record at this event. Schenk has gained almost 18 shots tee to green in his last 4 starts at The Country Club Of Jackson.

Mito Pereira looks to continue his solid rookie season

While the Ryder Cup hangover lingers it’s time for grinders to get back to work as the PGA Tour season heads to Jackson Mississippi for this week’s Sanderson Farms Championship. Historically speaking this event has been a good spot for lessor name players to gain that valuable first win. Last year’s Champion Sergio Gracia broke the new face trend as he is the most notable player to win this event in the last 10 years. Fresh off his 3 win season on last year’s Korn Ferry tour debut, Mito Pereira heads into this week’s event with a ton of momentum. While some in the world of golf might be slow to recognize his name, Pereira has played the type of golf to gain interest this week. Since June of last year, Pereira has 2 Korn Ferry Tour wins ( back to back) and three top seven or better finishes in his last four PGA Tour starts. This type of strong play combined with a player who has yet to burn the DFS community puts Pereira at the top of ownership projections late Wednesday afternoon. The ownership angle is always a topic you can make a strong case for either way. In fields that are typically not as strong one could reason that it’s ok to include some chalk builds since there are plenty of roads that lead to lowering your ownership numbers in other roster selections.

Still waiting for news on the status of Jon Rahm

With less than 20 minutes to lineup lock, there has been no news on the status of Jon Rahm. After missing the Pro-Am yesterday afternoon with a stomach bug Rahm is considered to be iffy for this week’s event. We will update if his status changes, but for now, Rahm is still in the field.

Jon Rahm skips out on Wednesday Pro-AM

With nine days until the start of the Ryder Cup, Jon Rahm decided to skip out on this week’s Fortinet Championship pro-am. Citing stomach pain as the reason for not playing today, the world’s number one golfer should be considered questionable to play in this week’s event. Rahm has missed out on some important golf due to COVID in the last two months, but at the time of this post, the word around his illness is just a stomach bug. Rahm plays in the morning wave, so we should have an idea prior to lock on the status of his health.

Patrick Reed returns after missing multiple weeks

In somewhat of a surprise move Patrick Reed has decided to play in this week’s Tour Championship. Battling health issues ( double pneumonia) Reed has not played a competitive round since the WGC St. Jude at the start of August. Even though Reed finds himself near the bottom of the pricing pool for the week, it will be hard to get behind what appears to be at best a golfer who is on the mend from a very serious health battle. Always a fighter Reed has the motivation to play this week as he currently sits in the 11th spot in the current Ryder Cup standings. Reed has been added both to our projections page and POWn for the week.

Charley Hoffman trending as a popular value play for the week

With a good week, Charley Hoffman can make the Tour Championship for the first time since the 2017 season. In 28 starts this year Hoffman has posted a top 25 in half of his starts. In addition to his steady play, Hoffman has a reputation for being a player that can make a ton of birdies. With his bottom-barrel price, the combination of steady play and his upside has Hoffman trending as one of the top value plays for the week. On DraftKings, there is a strong argument to pivot in GPP’s to the less popular Si Woo Kim. In a non-cut event, the upside Kim brings to the table can be a difference-maker. With three tour victories to his name ( including a Players Championship), Kim has a resume worth paying attention to in terms of upside in big events. With only 69 players in this week’s field, it will be hard to have rosters that can truly have low ownership. Predicted to have less than 4% ownership Kim makes for an interesting pivot from the very popular Hoffman.

Viktor Hovland looks to bounce back from a poor finish

Frustration over a poor putting performance got the best of Viktor Hovland at last week’s Northern Trust. Hovland broke his putter during the final round and had to putt with a wedge for the remainder of the day. Currently sitting in the 14th position ( 500 points outside the top 5) in this year’s FedEx Cup race Hovland still has plenty to play for this week. Just like last week’s Northern Trust, this week’s BMW Championship features a top place prize of 2000 FedEx points for first place. Caves Valley Golf Club looks to be a course that favors birdie makers, and Hovland has historically been the type of player who can rack up birdies with the best. Due to his typically strong ball-striking, Hovland ranks 4th this year in birdie or better % on par 4’s for the 2021 season. Hovland will look to rely on his excellent ball-striking abilities as he looks to finish off a strong run en route to his first tour championship apperearce.

Daniel Berger is no longer in the field

Last week’s winner Daniel Berger has decided to take a pass on this week’s Genisis Invitational. There will not be a replacement for Berger and the field, for now, sits at 120 players. Berger’s win last week probably factored into skipping an event where he has lacked much in terms of previous success.

Dustin Johnson and Matt Kuchar are both no longer in the field

Dustin Johnson and Matt Kuchar headline what has already been a busy list of names deciding to take a pass on this week’s AT&T Pro-Am. Jonathan Byrd and Rickie Barnes have gained entry into the field and should be added to pricing pools on Tuesday. At this time there is no injury news associated with either Kuchar or Johnson’s choice to not play this week. Johnson is coming off a big win last week and could have opted out after a long travel plan back to the states.
