Daniel Berger is no longer in the field

Due to a back injury, Daniel Berger will not play in this week’s Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Berger will be replaced by Kevin Stadler. Berger’s absence from this field could end up being a big shake-up in terms of roster construction for the week. Jordan Spieth is the closest pivot in terms of a price-down option. One would imagine that many of the early week Will Zalatoris rosters made the switch to Berger once the news of him having to miss due to Covid. This is a big piece of news that we hardly ever get this late in the week so there should be some POWN shakeup prior to our next update.

Jame Hahn no longer in the field

James Hahn is no longer in this week’s field. After a positive Covid test Hahn withdrew mid-day Wednesday. Hahn will be replaced by Richard S. Johnson. Please make sure to remove Hahn from any roster builds you may have. Due to the timing of this move, Richard S. Johnson will most likely make his appearance in showdown pricing additions.

Past Farmers Insurance Champion starting to find his game at the right time

Looking to bounce back from what was a very awful year, Brandt Snedeker is set to play this week’s Farmers Insurance Open with a little bit of positive momentum on his side. Snedeker is two for two in cuts this calendar season with an impressive top 15 at last week’s American Express. Prior to last week’s top finish at the American Express Snedeker had missed his three previous cuts at that event. Almost a full year into a swing coach change it appears Snedeker could be heading in the right direction in terms of getting his game back. Trending at a very low ownership number for this week, Snedeker has more than enough strong course history to stand out as a great value option for the week. In addition to his two wins at this event, Snedeker has 4 top ten or better finishes in his 12 career starts at the Farmers Insurance Open.

Field update for The Farmers Insurance Open

Charlie Hoffman and Chris Stroud will both no longer play in this week’s Farmers Insurance Open. Mark Hubbard and Jim Knous have gained entry into the field, but with a Wednesday start for the week it’s doubtful that we will see either player in a pricing pool update. If this changes projections will reflect the additions to the field.

Patrick Cantlay and Jon Rahm are the clear top two options at this week's American Express

The American Express tournament returns to its Pro-Am format this year. For DFS purposes that means we get 3 guaranteed rounds of golf prior to a Saturday cut. This also means that the first three days of competition will feature somewhat easy pin locations to accommodate the amateur golfers in the field. In terms of projected ownership, Jon Rahm and Patrick Cantlay are clearly the two favorites in terms of top-end options in this week’s field. Due to the fact that you get three rounds of play in from golfers, it would not be too crazy for many lineups to try and fit both top players in a stars and scrubs roster format. For those who are not going to jam both players in you would imagine a large portion of rosters will contain one of Rahm or Cantlay. For those multi-lineup tournament players who like to keep this type of ownership play in mind while building rosters, there is a strong angle to fade both players for a portion of your rosters. Rosters that start with one or two of the players priced above 9k will be a very interesting way to differentiate from the popular Rahm and Cantlay builds.

Five minutes until roster lock at The Sony Open and there is no news to report

With just about five minutes to the first full-field event of the 2022 calendar season and there is no major news to report. Scott Piercy was the last player to withdraw after pricing was released, so please make sure he is not in any of your builds. Good luck this week. ResutlsDB will be up and running a few minutes after lock.

Patton Kizzire trending towards low ownership number this week

Despite having a great track record at this event Patton Kizzire is not gaining much traction this week. In addition to his win at The 2018 Sony Open Kizzire has two top 15 finishes in five starts. His $7300 price tag on the week reflects the fact that Kizzire has been pretty boom or bust in his PGA Tour career which is evident by his two missed cuts at this event. WIth a POWN of less than 7%, Kizzirie is a player with more than enough proven upside needed to take some shots in large field GPP’s for the week.

Alex Smalley looks to take advantage of early season starts

PGA Tour rookie Alex Smalley has taken the path less traveled to play on The PGA Tour. After failing to get past the second stage of The Korn Ferry Tour finals during the 2019 season, Smalley had to resort to a competitive diet consisting of mostly mini-tour starts. Smalley kept his PGA Tour dream alive by trying to Monday qualify as many times as he could. Smalley was able to build momentum at the end of the 2021 season carrying him through to a 4th place finish at The Korn Ferry Tour finals. With a newly found 2022, PGA tour card in hand Smalley was able to make four out of six cuts in the fall wrap-around season highlighted by a pair of top 15 finishes. For those new to DFS or that did not play golf in the fall, Smalley is a new player worth keeping an eye on. Looking to capitalize on his early-season opportunity this former All American from Duke will once again look to make the most of his newfound opportunity.

Charles Howell in search of a bounce back season

Charles Howell arrives at Waialae Country Club with hopes of jump-starting his 2022 season. After a year in which Howell finished outside the top 100 in the final FedEx Cup standings in over a decade, this PGA Tour veteran will look to play well at a course that has certainly fit his game over the years. In his last 5 starts at this event, Howell has 4 top 20 finishes while gaining an average of 7 shots tee to green. For those who are new to the DFS community, Howell has always been a player you could target with a high degree of confidence during the west coast swing. Howell tends to putt better on the west coast and then often fizzles when the tour moves to Florida later in the spring.
