What are NFL Air Yards?

Air yards is an advanced metric that measures how many receiving yards a receiver has thrown to him regardless of whether the pass was caught or not. In other words, an incompletion still counts as air yards.

Air Yards Example: Tyreek Hill drops a 30-yard pass from Tua Tagovailoa. Though the pass doesn’t show up as a gain in the stat sheet, Hill and Tagovailoa had 30 air yards on the play.

How do fantasy players use air yards? DFS players can use air yards in their research to help find under-the-radar players who haven’t scored many fantasy points in recent weeks but are earning opportunities downfield. Air yards show that a receiver is being used in the game plan and are a signal of future opportunity.

You can use this NFL Usage App to find the total air yards, average air yards (per week), and week-by-week yards for any player.
