Omari Spellman Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Cheap Punt Offering Upside

Coach Kerr recently moved Spellman into the starting center role to replace Willie Cauley-Stein, and Spellman responded with a 17/5/3/3 line in 28 minutes against the Clippers. This matchup against the Grizzlies and their twin towers of Jonas Valanciunas and Jaren Jackson Jr. isn't as favorable for Spellman, and the Warriors will be getting D'Angelo Russell back which will soak up a lot of usage that went to Spellman last game, but this is a spot where the price tag remains very cheap across the industry for someone who has been playing well and is on the upswing. I don't expect Spellman to explode again for 30+ fantasy points, but at this price tag I don't think it hurts to go back to the well either as I see more potential upside than downside.

Omari Spellman (illness) out Saturday

Despite not being listed on the Warriors' injury report, Spellman won’t play in Saturday’s matchup against the Dallas Mavericks due to an illness, while Eric Paschall will miss a second straight game with a right hip contusion. In their absences, Marquese Chriss and Alen Smailagic should be expected to handle a majority of the backup frontcourt minutes, which has become much more scarce of late with Draymond Green and Willie Cauley-Stein each taking on a higher minute workload in recent games. Additionally, Ky Bowman was recalled from the G-League once again and has logged at least 21 minutes off the bench in each of the Warriors’ previous three contests, which has cut into the playing time of Alec Burks and essentially relegated Jacob Evans to the fringe of head coach Steve Kerr’s rotation.

Omari Spellman (ankle) listed available Wednesday

Spellman has been upgraded from questionable and will be available to play in Wednesday's matchup against Los Angeles Lakers due to a sprained left ankle. With Draymond Green returning from an extended injury absence in Monday's loss, Spellman was limited to only 12 minutes off the bench, and he figures to remain in a diminished role so long as Green and Eric Paschall are healthy.

Eric Paschall (hip) listed available Monday; Omari Spellman (ankle) listed out

Paschall has been listed as available to play on the Warriors' updated injury report for Monday's matchup against the Golden State Warriors after missing one game due to a right hip contusion, while Spellman is listed out with a sprained left ankle. Draymond Green did confirm to reporters at shootaround that he does expect to play a normal allotment of minutes in his return, so he’ll presumably start at power forward, which will send one of Alec Burks or Jordan Poole back to the bench to resume a reserve role. The player whose fantasy value is affected the most by Green returning to the lineup is Paschall, as he’s now extremely overpriced for his likely role in the rotation and makes him easy to avoid in all formats once Spellman is back healthy.

Watch For The Starting Lineup

With Dedmon out last game, Spellman drew the start and played 29 minutes against the Bucks. If he draws another start at center, he's one of the better value plays on the slate. He's averaging just under a fantasy points per minute (.93) this season, and if he's going to play 25+ minutes, he's just too cheap. The matchup against Steven Adams does concern me, but at this price, it's worth taking a shot.

Omari Spellman will start in place of Dewayne Dedmon (ankle) on Sunday

Dedmon was previously downgraded from questionable and won’t play in Sunday’s matchup against the due to a sprained left ankle, while Taurean Prince and Jeremy Lin are both available to play despite dealing with their respective ailments. Prince is set to return from an 18-game absence stemming from a sprained right ankle, and head coach Lloyd Pierce already confirmed with reporters during his pregame media availability that Prince will be limited to around 12 minutes in his first game back. This means that DeAndre Bembry will start at least one more time at small forward, and Spellman will join him in the starting lineup in Dedmon’s place. Alex Len typically enters the starting unit whenever Dedmon is sidelined, but he’s played fewer than 20 minutes in three of the previous four games with John Collins occupying more of the backup center minutes in Pierce’s current rotation than he had in the past.

John Collins (ankle), Dewayne Dedmon (shin), Jeremy Lin (back), and Omari Spellman (hip) available to play Wednesday; Alex Len (back) ruled out

Collins, Dedmon, Lin, and Spellman have all been upgraded from their previous injury designations and will be available to play in Wednesday's matchup against the Indiana Pacers, while Len has officially been ruled out due to a strained back. Len has settled into a high-teens minutes role off the bench of late, so his absence should solidify the minute floor of Dedmon as the starting center, while Collins and Spellman will also likely spend some time at the five when he’s off the floor. Dedmon remains relatively inexpensive on DraftKings, and he appears to be a solid value option on tonight's slate, but it’s actually been Collins that has been the main beneficiary with Len and Taurean Prince off the court, as he owns a 28.1% usage rate (+3.1%) and is averaging 1.27 DraftKings and 1.21 FanDuel points per minute in this scenario.

Omari Spellman (hip) upgraded to probable Wednesday

Spellman has officially been upgraded from doubtful and is probable for Wednesday's matchup against the Indiana Pacers after missing eight consecutive games due to a sore right hip, while John Collins managed to participate in shootaround and is likely to play in tonight’s contest despite dealing with a sprained right ankle. Alex Len has settled into a high-teens minutes role off the bench of late, so his probable absence should solidify the minute floor of Dewayne Dedmon as the starting center, while Spellman and Collins will also likely spend some time at the five when he's off the floor. Dedmon remains relatively inexpensive on DraftKings, and he appears to be a solid value option, but it’s actually been Collins that has been the main beneficiary with Len and Taurean Prince off the court, as he owns a 28.1% usage rate (+3.1%) and is averaging 1.27 DraftKings and 1.21 FanDuel points per minute in this scenario.

Omari Spellman ruled out for Sunday; Alex Poythress is available to play

John Collins is out Sunday due to an ankle sprain, which opens up a ton in the front-court given the high level Collins has been producing at. It's likely we see a little more Dewayne Dedmon (although he's already seeing steady run in close games), Vince Carter, Alex Len and/or Alex Poythress, and Omari Spellman would figure to factor in heavily if he wasn't also sitting. It's possible the Hawks try to best match-up against Blake Griffin when choosing the starting four, but they have an extremely thin front-court at the moment, so this sets up as a smash spot for Blake especially. Drummond is also firmly in play against the Hawks.
