Dominik Simon Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Productive January for Penguins' top liner

After a disastrous December where Simon had no points in seven games, Simon came back with a vengeance in January with 8 points (3G, 5A) in 11 contests while averaging nearly 15 minutes of ice time per game. With his return to the top line alongside superstar Sidney Crosby and the often-overlooked Jake Guentzel, Simon will continue to have chances to produce. A matchup with an Ottawa team bleeding goals on the road is certainly one to exploit even at significant ownership tonight. Simon's price across the industry gives him cash game and tournament appeal as Pittsburgh's top line should dominate the Senators at even-strength.

This centre is expected to be in a high-scoring affair.

The Tampa Bay Lightning and Pittsburgh Penguins are expected to be in a shootout tonight. So, getting the most exposure to this game would be ideal. Sidney Crosby is centering Jake Guentzel and Dominik Simon on the top line for the Penguins, and while name value isn't great, Guentzel is actually a great compliment for Crosby. While it would be nice to see Guentzel on the top power play unit over Patric Hornqvist, that hast not happened yet. This is a line that you're looking to cash in at even strength tonight.

Streaking team getting scoring from all lines

Dominik Simon scored a goal and dished out a helper last night in last night's 7-2 demolition of the New York Rangers. Simon has 11 shots on goal over his last four games and in what should be a high-event game, there is an opportunity for him to produce again. The Penguins have won seven straight scoring 32 goals in the process. While Simon does not skate on either of the power play units, he is skating alongside a surging Patric Hornqvist and Evgeni Malkin who seems to have found his game again. Simon is a cheap way to gain some exposure to the home team.

Russian Center Will Carry the Load

With Sidney Crosby forced to miss tonight's contest due to injury, Evgeni Malkin will be relied on to produce even more offense than usual. Malkin is in a funk by his usual standards, and has just one point in his last five games. Malkin will likely be flanked by Patric Hornqvist and Dominik Simon at even strength, and will also help to quarterback a struggling Penguins Power Play. This game has an over/under of 6.5 goals, so Vegas is expecting plenty of action. If the Penguins are going to compete, they'll need Malkin to find the scoresheet early and often.

Cheap Winger Looks to Extend Point Streak

Dominik Simon is in the midst of a career long point streak (five games), and he'll look to keep it going tonight against the Devils. Simon has been the beneficiary of playing on a line with Sidney Crosby, and he's seen an uptick in ice time too. He's seen 17+ minutes in three straight games after not eclipsing that mark in his first nine games. While he isn't on the first power play unit, he does see time with the second group on the man advantage. He's cheap across the industry and should be a staple in your lineups tonight.

Depth Scoring In Potential Shootout

If you're looking for an under the radar line stack tonight, consider the third line of Pittsburgh which features Phil Kessel, Dominik Simon, and newly acquired Derick Brassard. With a whopping 44 points in 33 home games, Kessel should have no problems improving upon his success on home ice this season against a Calgary Flames team that lacks the depth to slow down Pittsburgh's three lined scoring attack. Further improving this line's outlook tonight is the fact that home ice advantage will allow head coach Mike Sullivan to get Kessel and his new third line matched up against one of the weaker defensive lines of Calgary, setting the stage for a monster performance in a game that should play at a rapid pace, with plenty of shots exchanged between both teams.

Low Ownership For League's Best Player?

In a high variance sport like hockey, there are times when fading star players can pay off, especially in tournaments. One such superstar that should not be faded tonight is Sidney Crosby. Skating alongside playmakers Conor Sheary and Dominik Simon on Pittsburgh's top line, Crosby has shaken off a poor start to the year with a whopping 21 points over his last ten games. A matchup against a strong Sharks team may seem risky, but they have been showing cracks defensively of late; entering tonight's game with the third worst adjusted xGA/60 since December 1st. This bodes well for Crosby, who may go overlooked on tonight's 12 game slate due to the fact his linemates don't share power play time along with a difficult perceived matchup.

A new wing-man for Sidney Crosby

Playing alongside Sidney Crosby is fantasy gold for just about every winger given the opportunity. For now, that makes 23-year-old Dominik Simon one a terrific value option as the Penguins invade the desert to battle the Golden Knights. After amassing three goals and 13 assists in 20 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL, Simon promptly dished out a pair of assists against the Maple Leafs in his season debut last weekend. While his value does hinge on Mike Sullivan leaving him on his current line with Crosby and Jake Guentzel, it's certainly worth the risk considering that he's nearly minimum price across the industry.
