NBA Betting Picks for Today: Mavericks at Thunder
Both the Dallas Mavericks and the Oklahoma City Thunder have exceed expectations this season. The Thunder were expected to be a team well out of the playoffs after losing Russell Westbrook. It was assumed the Thunder would subsequently trade Chris Paul in an effort to rebuild and acquire assets for upcomings eason. To many people’s surprise, the Thunder look like they’ll be playing in the postseason. They currently sit 7th in the Western Conference with a record of 28-19 and are 7-3 in their last 10 games. Looking at their home/road splits you’ll see they’ve been slightly better at home this season than on the road going 15-9 at home compared to 13-10 on the road, but they have actually been the best team in the league at covering on the road this season going 18-5 ATS compared to 14-10 at home. While they are missing a few pieces Monday night due to injuries, the majority of their starting lineup will be active.
The Mavericks have been a great team this season even though they’ve struggled through some injuries. The Mavericks have been without either Luka Donci or Kristap Porzingis for extended periods of time, but they come into this game with both stars healthy and with the possibility of Willie Cauley-Stein making his Mavericks debut. Dallas is only 6-4 over their last 10 games, but it has been a tough stretch facing the Lakers, 76ers, Clippers, Jazz, Nuggets, and the Blazers twice. Additionally, the were without Porzingis for all but three of those games. While the Oklahoma City Thunder are the best team in the league at covering the spread on the road, Dallas is second with a record of 13-5-2 ATS on the road compared to 9-14-1 ATS at home. Additionally, the Mavs are one of the few teams in the league with a better record on the road than at home going 13-11 at home and 15-6 on the road.

The money coming into this game is a little bit worrisome considering that the line has moved toward the thunder and 80% of the total bets are coming in on the Mavs, but I think the Mavericks are the better play. The Thunder are just one game back of Dallas. They’ll have home court advantage tonight, but the Mavericks are a much better team than their record shows and they have gone 7-2-1 ATS as a road favorite this season. Considering that this line is close to a pick em, I’m rolling with the Mavericks -1.
