  • DraftDay NFL Bracket Challenge Round 2

The first round of the DraftDay NFL Bracket Challenge is over and that means 50% of the competition is eliminated. If you are in the advanced half, then best of luck this weekend. And if you choked harder than LeBron James in the final minute of a game(I'm looking at you CAL), well tough luck. Read More

  • Week 1 Overreactions: Which Breakouts, Flops and Flukes Can You Trust?

Week 1 of the NFL is always funny to me because you see the true nature of sports fans across America. At the moment, Redskins fans are booking their SuperBowl tickets while Saints fans blame Roger Goodell for making them go 0-16 this year. Read More

  • Breaking Down A Block-Buster: Sox and Dodgers Massive Trade

If you know anything about me to this point it's that I am a huge Boston fan. I'm probably obnoxious to a fault when it comes to the Boston sports teams. A lot of times you can take advantage of me as a daily fantasy player because I am unwilling to bend when it comes to choosing players going against my Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics or Bruins. But this season I have changed my mentality a bit because I have taken up a sizable vendetta against the Red Sox. Read More

  • DOCOFS Heads-Up Bracket Challenge: $5 and $50 Elite Eights

So I don't really feel the need to explain myself as to why I wasn't all that enthused to write another DOCOFS Bracket blog after a couple of just heart breaking losses on Friday night, but I'll just say that "Miguel Montero(player-profile)":/players/Miguel_Montero-10271's final run, and the Trout/Trumbo dingers really 'broke the camel's back'. But I've finally recovered and my weeping/venting/five stages of grief are over so I can come back and update the DFS world on the final eight competitors in each the $5 and $50 brackets. Some real big names out there, proving that a bracket challenge wouldn't come down to luck but pure skill. Read More

  • Athletes vs. Gamblers: A Daily Fantasy Sports Dilemma

I came into Daily Fantasy Sports as a guy who thought he could win money because he had played sports his whole life. I believed that my knowledge of sports themselves would be enough to propel me to victory. It wasn't long before I realized that I was sorely wrong. As I watched Jamie Robbins recently push deep into the WSOP, knowing he still has a shot at the $100K DFBC Championship, it became clearer than ever to me. Some people are just really good at gambling. Plain and simple. There are people who know how to do the leg work and they can easily overcome a simple sports background. Now I've learned a lot since my first days as a DFS player, and would like to think I at least know what it takes to be a decent player. But there's still a huge learning curve that I had to overcome. I could draw X's and O's on a basketball court better than probably 99% of daily fantasy players, but a guy like Notorious would beat me 9 out of 10 times when I first started playing daily NBA games. • Home Run Derby: Full Preview, History and Breakdown

It's the All-Star break so there isn't much to really talk about in the daily fantasy world. So I might as well toss together a Home Run Derby breakdown and see who has the advantage heading into Monday's long ball competition. The home run has a long and storied history, so I will take a look at all the previous HR Derby victors. Then we can take a look at Kansas City and what ballpark factors might influence a few dingers on Monday, along with the weather forecast. And last, I'll give you the money line Vegas Odds on who is most likely to win the Derby along with my extremely biased pick because I took him in the forums game that is taking place tomorrow night. Even if that pick matches none of the other factors discussed earlier. Let's do it. Read More

  • MLB Friday's: GPP Plays To Separate You From The Pack

Another Friday night is on the horizon and that means tons of action, money to be won and especially GPPs. From the DFBC over at FanDuel to the DSBC at DraftStreet and even DailyJoust and their new King's Crown tournament, you have chances across the board to qualify for incredibly big tourneys this Friday. Everyone and their sister have been all over the Cardinals and White Sox hitters lately, as well as stars like Joey Bats and Andrew McCutchen. Read More

  • Re-Evaluating Hot Players When Their Price Goes Up

One of the most challenging transitions in daily fantasy is deciding how much is too much for one of your beloved sleepers(even stars can be sleepers). There are countless examples of that this season, starting with "Jeremy Lin(player-profile)":/players/Jeremy_Lin-916 and, more recently, with guys such as "Lester Hudson(player-profile)":/players/Lester_Hudson-931. These players are such good bargains when they are putting up 25 or so points on DS at around 8K, but what happens when they shoot up to 10-12K? Do they still hold the same value? Here's some advice on how to handle the situation. Read More

  • Using Available Information To Project Daily Fantasy NBA Success: April Update

With the NBA season wrapping up, and most teams only having about 12-15 games left, it's time to update one of the most successful blogs I have ever written. "The NBA Useful Information blog":/blog-posts/Using_Available_Information_To_Project_Daily_Fantasy_NBA_Success-35417 was a huge hit and I thought you daily fantasy players might enjoy reading an updated version with some new information and I'll even add in a couple of more numbers that may prove useful. My only hope is that this blog can be helpful enough to make up for the worst blog I have ever written about MLB Opening Day plays. It was awful (but Johan Santana DID throw five scoreless). • How to Build a Daily Fantasy MLB Team: The Basics (Part 1)

I think baseball is the most indicative sport of a daily fantasy player's hard work and research. It's a game driven by statistics, where DFS players actually follow a lot of the same guidelines as an MLB manager. Lefty-righty matchups, finding hitters who see a specific guy well, and battling through injury updates are all tasks an MLB manager and DFS player face in the baseball world. While research is a necessity in all daily fantasy sports, the hard work you put in during the baseball season will outweigh the luck factor almost every time. It has been called a game of inches, but in daily fantasy it is sure to become a game of decimal points between winning and losing a game. Read More

  • Different Strategy Based On League Size: How To Win Each Game

When I first joined the daily fantasy world about six months ago, I thought that the way to the big bucks was through GPPs and big leagues. I followed that ideal for awhile and picked up some things, but I quickly found myself replenishing my bank account when I hit a brief cold streak. The fact of the matter is, if you don't have the bankroll, then you are better off playing in heads up leagues with more at stake than you are joining a 2$ GPP. But the allure of the big bucks in the GPPs will always loom large, so you need to understand that there are strategical differences based on the size of the league. Read More

  • MLB Season Set To Begin: Breaking Down Opening Day Games

There are a few sections of this lengthy MLB preview article. First, I'll simply post the games going on for April 4th and 5th. Second, I'll talk about the expected opening day Starting Pitchers and their matchups. Third, I'll break down the top hitting options based on a number of factors. The final section will discuss the likely closers and the likelihood they see a save opportunity based on their matchup. So let's get to it. Read More

  • Deadline Deals: Measuring The Ripple Effects Of NBA Trades in Daily Fantasy

So the trade deadline has come and past, and while a couple of big moves were made, the real news lies with the guys who didn't get moved. The marquee talent that was on the block throughout the trading period wasn't moved as expected. "Dwight Howard(player-profile)":/players/Dwight_Howard-1501 is going to stay put in Orlando for at least another year, until he loses in the playoffs and again blames his teammates for being insufficient. "Rajon Rondo(player-profile)":/players/Rajon_Rondo-1085 escaped the fabricated rumors of ESPN and remains a Celtic(I'm sorry but a Celtics-Lakers trade with two big name players will never happen. Boston learned their lesson with Babe Ruth.) Read More

  • Breaking Down Value: Expected Fantasy Output Per Dollar Spent

As I was setting my lineups today, I started looking at the average fantasy points per game statistic and adding up a number of different scenarios to see how many points I could expect from my team. I quickly realized that by doing this, I was going against all of my research and ignoring many of the trends and figures that are useful in picking a team each night. I also found that some of my favorite lineups were only yielding 200ish points in total on DraftStreet. On a typical night, winning totals are in the 230-240 range and up. Read More

  • The White Mamba Chronicles: NBA Tuesday 3/6 Plays

I would like to congratulate all the fantasy owners who invested in Scalabrine this week and were rewarded handsomely. In an impressive four minutes of playing time(in one appearance) he broke out and hung 2.5 DS fantasy points. All I can say is wow. If he isn't the sleeper play every time the Bulls take the court then I don't know how to define sleeper anymore. On a more serious note, welcome back to another week of the White Mamba Chronicles. Hosted by the White Mamba himself, "Brian Scalabrine(player-profile)":/players/Brian_Scalabrine-1449, the Tuesday picks are meant to help players sift through the mounds of players and identify a few guys with sleeper value, star power and disappointment potential. So let's kick it off and see who Big Scal likes this week. He's not always perfect, but he certainly keeps the laughs coming. Read More
