Global Poker Review
Have you been searching for a new online poker site to use in the United States? You’re not alone. Enter: Global Poker. Using a revolutionary sweepstakes system, Global Poker allows US players from all over the country (and Canada!) to once again hit the tables and test their skills in exciting, legal online poker games. Let’s dive into our Global Poker review.
Global Poker: A Sweepstakes Everyone Can Win
You might be asking yourself, “What makes Global Poker legal when my old poker sites are not?” It’s because Global Poker operates using an innovative sweepstakes model. Poker players can purchase Global’s virtual currency, Gold Coins (GC), easily by using a credit card. While GC are valueless, they come with an attached bonus known as Sweeps Coins (SC), which is what you’ll want to accumulate by playing in Global Poker cash games and tourneys. Sweeps Coins can be redeemed for real cash prizes – or other prizes – at any time. See the Global Poker site for more details.

Global Poker Game Types
Global Poker offers the two most popular online games: No-Limit Hold’em and Pot-Limit Omaha, in addition to Crazy Pineapple. Fixed Limit Hold’em games are also available if you’re into that kinda thing. You can sort all of the current game types and formats through an easy-to-use box at the top of the poker site lobby. Only interested in certain games or stakes? Uncheck everything else and streamline the experience.
All of the following poker formats are now spread on Global Poker:
Traditional ring games, aka cash games, are offered in two currencies, Gold Coins (play money) and Sweeps Coins. Each table is named for a city (some more exciting than others) and can be sorted by available seats, blinds, hands per hour, etc. Ring games tables on Global Poker will either be full ring, with 9 seats or short-handed 6-max.
It’s in the early stages, but Global Poker has rolled outs its fast-fold cash game product known simply as Surge. Advertising ‘lightning-fast poker’, Surge games allow for poker players to get in more hands than ever before. Every time you hit the fold button, you’ll be immediately transported to a new table, with new cards, a new position, and new opponents. If it’s not your turn to act, click the ‘quick fold’ button and you’re on to the next one – your cards will be folded, in turn, when the action gets to you.
For now, Surge is only available at lower stakes, but higher buy-in sweeps cash games are surely on the way. Stay tuned.
As far as multi-table tournaments are concerned, there’s a good amount of variety on the Global Poker schedule with SC events running pretty much around the clock. They’ll predominantly be No-Limit Hold’em, which remains the most popular online poker game type, but you can occasionally find a Pot-Limit Omaha or Pineapple tourney. The tournament lobby color coordinates its tournaments by game under the ‘Type’ tab, which is convenient.
When it comes to the structure, events are available in both full ring and short handed variants, with standard formats, rebuy, 1 rebuy + 1 add-on, deep stacks, turbos, hyper-turbos, 2x chance, and more. Global Poker also offers tournaments with a guaranteed prize pool and satellites into larger events, for those operating on a budget that still want to compete for big payouts.
Global Poker offers both full ring and short handed SNG tournaments. The majority of its offerings will be single table games, though there are some multi-table SNGs that will begin with between 18-27 runners. The majority of its SNGs have either turbo or hyper-turbo structures. Normal-speed SNGs do exist, but they’re not as common.
If you’re not familiar, Jackpot Sit’N’Gos have taken the poker world by storm. They’re quick, exciting, and potentially very lucrative. There are only three players per tournament, and the prize structure is winner takes all. Once the SNG has filled, the tourney starts by randomly determining the prize pool which could be up to 2,000 times the chosen buy-in. You never know when you’ll hit the jackpot and have a chance to play for major money.
Global Poker offers these games at a variety of stakes. From micro options up to higher stakes games, there are comfortable tables for everyone. It doesn’t matter if you’re a new player on a budget, or an experienced shark whose really looking to mix things up. Ring games start with equivalent penny stakes and range up to about SC 10/SC 20. There’s a convenient ‘Buy-in’ option at the top of the page that allows you to easily sort for the stakes you’re interested in playing, which includes: Micro, Low, Medium, and High.
Banking With Global Poker
To add to the balance of your account on Global Poker, you purchase Gold Coins. This is done through the yellow button in the top right corner. Before you can purchase coins you’ll be required to confirm a few more personal details including your name, date of birth, and address. You can purchase Gold Coins using a variety of methods. You can attach your bank account, use credit cards, etc. All of the following are available:
- Credit Card: Visa / MasterCard / American Express
- Online Banking: Attach your bank account to your Global Poker account to facilitate easy transfers
- Skrill: A quick, easy to use eWallet that’s available in the U.S.
At this point, you’ll be given the option to purchase, say, 100,000 Gold Coins for $20, which includes 20 Sweeps Coins free of charge.
Before you can redeem your Sweeps Coin prize winnings, you’ll need to verify your account. This requires you to submit a photo ID and prove your address. Redemption requests take on average 2-5 days.
Gold Coins vs Sweeps Coins
Global Poker revolves around two main currencies: Gold Coins and Sweeps Coins. Games are spread in both, however, they’re very different in their use. You can easily toggle back and forth between the two by selecting the ‘Switch Currency’ button at the top of the lobby.
Gold Coins (GC)
GC are essentially play money, they hold no real value despite being the item that you purchase when adding to your account. Both GC cash games and tournaments are available, and you can also redeem your coins for things like unique avatars in the site store. However, at the end of the day, they lack real value.
You’ll receive 5,000 Gold Coins for free when creating your account, and you can purchase GC at any time through the cashier. When purchasing GCs you’ll receive a corresponding bonus of Sweeps Coins, the site’s second currency.
Sweeps Coins (SC)
Sweeps Coins can only be acquired through purchasing its valueless counterpart, Gold Coins. Any SC won in Sweeps cash games can be redeemed for real cash prizes or other prizes. You cannot purchase SC directly, they are only awarded as an add-on when loading GCs.
Global Poker Software Options
Global Poker is one of the easiest poker sites to use. There’s no app or software to download. You can load the website directly within the browser of your choosing, sign-in, and hit the tables. The browser-based software conveniently allows poker players to sort the lobby to find the game they want, and even allows for multi-table viewing for those not content with just a single table.
- Legal in 49 States
- Tons of Promos
- Safe and Secure Technology
- Many Game Varities
Unfortunately, there’s no mobile app, but you can still load up the website on your phone or tablet directly through the browser and play online poker while on the go.
