Welcome to a new piece of content here at RG, 4 Factors. I’m pumped to be doing this Monday through Friday moving forward for NBA (and the other future main sports). Here’s the goal of this:
When it comes to making DFS tournament lineups, it’s about more than just picking the best players. If you just so happen to be better at predicting future fantasy points than the rest of the world (spoiler – you’re not), then you can disregard this. But for the rest of us, there are 4 critical factors to creating strong tournament lineups that give us the chance to be a winning player over the long term.
1. Projection
Even though there are a ton of levers we need to be pulling in order to construct tournament lineups, projections are still of the utmost importance. Even though we can’t be playing ALL the highest owned players in a single tournament lineup, we still want to be playing players who project well. Playing the backup small forward for the Hornets praying he has the best shooting game of his life in 14 minutes is going to make you go broke. Using a player who projects just a point or so worse (and has a similar ceiling) than a more popular player can, however, be very effective when you factor in ownership. Which leads me to…
