Firestone Country Club South Course Akron, Ohio 7400/70

What Does everybody think about this week?

  • flip4flop

First look seems the opposite of last week. Lots is players on top of their game in good form. Pricing should be interesting this week for sure.

Akron native here. One of my favorite tournaments of the year. Only 2 par 5s. One of them (#2) plays like a long par 4 and the other one (#16) is a three shot hole even for long hitters as its well over 600 yards and protected by the only water on the course.

I would look to putting and par 4 scoring this week. Firestone is very straight forward. I think there is a reason the best of the best perform well here (look at Tiger in his prime).

DraftKings with some odd pricing this week. I’m not seeing any player below 7K.

Edit: I’m assuming that’s because there is no cut.

    Jordan.

Course: Firestone Country Club (South), 7,400 yards, par 70

Field: Freshly-crowned Open Championship winner Zach Johnson and Masters/U.S. Open winner Jordan Spieth headline the list of 76 qualifiers.

Very narrow fairways this week so accuracy is key but it is inevitable to drop. All the top players were great at approach shots in the rough. That makes me think Spieth, Garcia, Rose = 1,2,3. Gonna be impossible to fit them in one lineup but the best of the best will do well here

  • johnnyjohnny848

Damn jordan is kinda tough to fit in this week if you want him your average salary for the rest of your team is 7.5k interesting.

  • JSteele

There’s some good plays at that range but not enough to play Jordan. I’m probably going to toss one Spieth lineup out there but I’ll go balanced this week

  • mgv1208

I couldn’t make a spieth (I obv wanted to) I just dropped down to Scott

  • ninerzfan8

Interesting pricing with no one below 7K on dk you pretty much get one top end guy if you want him but that’s it.

I agree. It’s a tough fit. I could see it working out, but seems like a more balanced approach is in the cards. (Although I wonder if Jordan could be under-owned?).

gonna have to dig to find stats for the foreign guys this week. they will be key if you’re getting a spieth LU this week. anirbahn lahiri anyone?? haha

Yeah crazy to think Spieth will be under owned but with how the pricing is he probably will be in the 10-12% range

Put in a single bullet. I know nothing about golf. I’m assuming everyone listed is actually playing, or do I have to follow the roto news to make sure I don’t have a dud in?

Love the salaries. Was not too enthused about playing the no cut event, but DK has definitely made it interesting.

Agreed DK did a great job with the salaries, should be interesting how the % owned of these players work out. Who do you guys have as the highest owned?

liking the all 7k+ plays this week. force everyone (myself included) to get creative with lineups. one top end guy, one 10k guy and four guys below 7.5k. should be a fun week for golf!

  • milanman21

Plan on chasing current form and course history, might not be a week to look at stats too intensively with the small field and no-cut. Thoughts?

definitely should help increase variance and suppress ownership on the guys 9k+. PGA site said this course favors guys who hit a good draw which is a strength in spieth’s arsenal. only way he is worth that salary is if he wins. the grind continues bromigos. much nicer early in the week before all the n00bs start blowing up the forum with their bitching come thursday.

    Terrible pricing this week

  • mgv1208

dont be lazy! current form will be important but like 40% of the field barely have current form in their game logs cuz they play on other tours. that will leave you with a super chalky roster (no problem if you play cash game). luckily, you have only about half of the normal amount of players to analyze and alot of them are big names that you likely already have a pretty good idea about. OWGR.com is a nice site for info that i use to dig up info on the international guys. its a long ass course, plenty of doglegs, lot of rough, water hazards on like 6 or 7 of the holes to worry about. less bunkers than the past two weeks which is nice, so scrambling from there wont be as important i think. they are talking about very challenging pin placement and suggest that par is a good score on many of the holes, especially on the 3’s. i believe in you milanman21! get that homework done!

Are you looking at the right course? Two water hazards on #3 and #16. And not many doglegs at all.

  • tprokopenko

Pretty easy course as well. The winner is usually well into double digits under par. That could also be helped by the fact that it’s a strong field, but there should be plenty of birdies.

looking at WGC bridgestone course in Ohio (firestone CC south). might have gotten a little ahead of myself on water hazards there… oops. but i do see a fair amount of doglegs. check out the scorecard, some not as dramatic as others but see those providing a nice challenge. i mentioned earlier that info from the course and the pga site suggested guys who play a good draw would have a slight advantage here. still need to drill down key stats that ill be looking at. any insights on the greens?
