anyone done any early cappin on derby yet right now i like tacitus omaha beach code of honor and game winner but a sloppy track will require a reevaluation

I am a complete horse racing idiot, but somehow the last 3 or 4 years I always end up betting on the Derby. I do some research, not a whole lot. This year looks like right now there is not one or two clear favorites….it’s pretty wide open. So I’m probably going to go with By My Standards and/or Spin off. I know especially Spin off is a big long shot and is starting way on the outside, but I think the horse has several positives going for it.

    17 12 8 7 No one beats Roadster

  • 33BeRad

War of Will will be in a lot of my exotics. Improbable is my early key to win with Omaha Beach out. I like the post for Improbable more than Game winner or Roadster. Tacitus is very interesting too, I like his price.

  • XxHeisenbergxX

I am using Tax he will be the key to all my exotics and WPS bets- 90% rain on Saturday, I love his breeding (Arch, Kris. S and Giant Causeway on the bottom) stamina, bred to love mud and he has raced over the CD track. But my final decision won’t be made until mid card Saturday when I can see how the track is playing and if there is any track bias.

  • OneShotKill17

Have been on Tacitus for most of the week, do like the idea of using Tax in exotics.

  • 33BeRad

With Haikal a scratch and everyone bumping out that gives War of Will a little room to get out.

    .50 cent Triple Box

    2 5 6 7 8 14 16

    $105 Total

Maximum Security -Tacitus -Tax would be my 3 heavy favorites to wheel on top if you want to go less expensive

  • depalma13

    $.50 Trifecta:

Tacitus, Maximum Security/ ALL / Tacitus, Maximum Security = $17

Tacitus, Maximum Security/ Tacitus, Maximum Security / ALL = $17

    $1 Superfecta

Tacitus, Maximum Security/ Tacitus, Maximum Security / Improbable, Vekoma, War of Will / ALL = $96

  • superjon

Let’s say the top horses are 5-8-1-3

Is the pay out the same if you box the superfecta as opposed to just doing a single superfecta?

  • timusbr

curious what a serious horse player thinks of the Ky. Oaks winner yesterday.

The horse died in his last race because he bled. Bled while on Lasix. I actually picked him as a contender based on the numbers but tossed him due to bled on Lasix. In all my years of of horseplaying, I know bleeding is not good, and it is normal. But Only a few times in memory have I seen the line stopped-bled while on Lasix at the time.
I had dreams last night because I hated the favorite that race, I knew some serious money was available. I spent way too much trying to catch the payday.

  • timusbr

Depalma, dont know about your horses but I love the way you bet it

  • Giez

Going to possibly be sloppy today. That helped me last year pick some horses out but still looking at that angle. Any thoughts on good Mudders?

yes, the payout would be the same if you bet a single superfecta for X as opposed to boxing the superfecta for X

boxing the superfecta of course would cost a lot more than betting a single superfecta because you’d be covering a lot of combinations.

  • timusbr

fifty cent tri combination = $40
    5 16 with 1 3 5 7 16 21 with 1 3 5 6 7 8 13 16 19 21

if I wanted to be real tight I would go with a box 1 5 7 16 with exactas

Stopped vanned off is a powerful angle for a horse’s next race.

I’ve been betting the card all day due to a promo at a book I use.

Have not been able to hit anything.

10% rebate on losses and my balance probably going to be empty after the derby.

  • marker0357

i went Long Range Toddy at 50:1

  • jcrebs

In my younger days I lived in Maryland, went to Pimlico, Laurel, and Charlestown, even saw Tina Turner and Charley Pride there in free concert in 1984, this was before Turner’s comeback with Private Dancer. For today’s Derby, not betting, but rooting for Code Of Honor, simply because of the name, and how much honor is lacking in the USA today.

  • yisman

Going to see if Vekoma can catch a piece at a big price.
