The perfect Masters 2019 lineup did have Woods, but also Harding, who was probably 0.1% or something like that.

@keephustlincuz: Nice! I’ll return the favor if I hit a big prize too!

Harding was my most owned scrub at the Masters, so the angles to find these guys are there.

  • hautalak

Yeah I guess it depends on what you call stars/scrubs. I don’t think I’ll dip too much below 6.5K but there are “viable” plays there and above IMO. Did play my lone Fin Mikko at 6.2K!!! With Harrington’s showing I’m sure I’ll play him there too and he finished well in 2012. Should be interesting. I’m think about 30 lineups or so.

    most scrubs aren’t good

LOL tell that to kang homa and CT. They are very good often just a shot or two from winning. It’s all about finding that swing and putting stroke for one beautiful week.

euro followers, what is the recent form of Erik Van Rooyen?

I’m talking about scrubs in Majors. When is the last time a “scrub” won a Major? Especially in this era where we have like 20 players who can contend, no scrub like CT Pan will be winning any major. CT Pan is a great guy and I’m happy he won the RBC Heritage but he has 0% win equity here. You might get away with 1 scrub and hope he gets top 10 somehow, but if you are choosing 2+ scrubs on your team, I think you are throwing away money.

Even when Danny Willet won the Masters he was on fire that year and was around 9k player.

Maybe you can go to a young Keegan Bradley or Jason Dufner but even they have won multiple events over the years. And that was in an era before we have this loaded top 20.

Trevor Immelmann might be the last true scrub to win a Major but even he had a few top 10s in Majors prior (he’s like similar to Kokrak and Woodland’s history who I don’t put in scrub territory).

by stars and scrubs, you mean tiger woods and everybody else?

Basically any player under 7k. I think it’s very -EV if you choose 2 sub 7k players imo. I agree you can choose 1 like Julian Suri but like choosing 2 and having your stars also be right and outperform the mid price plays seems like very -EV.

In a non Major like last week that’s fine since you can pair Brooks with whoever (and good job if you chose Sung Kang) but not in a Major.

Only one player on my team can win. Im looking for top tens. Whens the last time a “scrub” got a top 10. But ya go chalk forget about the scrubs idc

This years Masters – 0 golfers in the top 10 were a scrub. In fact not even any of the top 10 is “mediocre” (which is like the RCB Mitchell area).

Last years PGA championship, I don’t see a single person in the top 10 who can be considered a scrub except maybe Stewart Cink. But Cink is a former major champ who had a 4th, 2nd, 23rd, 24th, and 37th coming into the PGAs. I guess if you do consider him a scrub you would have to perfectly get him right out of all of them and like I said he was slightly better than the likes of Kevin Tway Max Homa and CT Pan this year. Pieters was the other guy but I put him in the “mediocre” range where like RCB and Mitchell are this year

Just for shits and gigs you wanna run a $1-$5 h2h where I play 2 sub 7K guys? I just think in a major you still want the “top” guys. I get the mid range guys can win but not so sure it’ll happen here.

    This years Masters

great example that fits your point of view lol how bout look at other majors with larger fields. The masters scrubs are mostly elderly haha small playing field you gotta win that year or be top 50 player in the world. This is the PGA championship. There will be 10-15 players in the top 10 and one or two will be a “scrub”.

That turned out to be a great play, but I’m not sure I can find the guy who’ll do the same in this major. I prefer mixing middle tier guys (by middle I mean from $7K to $10K) and cross my fingers!

If I enter 20+ lineups, I’ll have some stars and scrubs lineups, but I prefer aiming for a “safe” 6/6 in higher stakes contests.

Yeah… that’s kind of where I landed as well. Too many good golfers in the 7s. It’s pretty easy to take 4 guys in the sevens and then 2 up around 10.

Satellites Are Back Satellites Are Back

For those of you who participated in the forum last year you may remember that we had a few satellite contests amongst the forum members which won you entry into bigger prized pool contests with fewer participants. Thanks to the DK community team we are able to bring these back this year. The plan is to have these satellite contests for the majors so you can use in the following major. Our ability to continue to receive these satellite contests will hinge on our ability to fill them.

In order to compete you must be a member of the RotoGrinders Golf Forum League. If you would like to be added just ask. This will also give you access to play in the weekly Happy Meal contest along with the beat the forum H2H contests, both setup by Timusbr.

This week for the PGA Championship we will be competing for tickets to be used for the US Open. The first satellite is for the $555 contest at the US Open. Last year this was a $444 contest with a prize pool of $750,000. I would imagine the prize pool this year to be around $800,000. The second satellite is for the $150 three max contest at the US Open. Last year the prize pool for this contest was $200,000. Both of these contests had less than 2,000 participants last year which is much better than competing against over 100,000 for a nice prize pool. We will also ha e satellite contests for the $75 3Max and $33 Single Entry.

Entry fee for the $555 is $6 and pays a ticket for the winner. Entry fee for the $150 is $5 and pays a ticket to first and second place. While some will find the entry fee steep for a satellite and the majority will not win, in the end we will have forum members competing in contests that many can’t enter. In addition we will be able to root on some members in what could be a great sweat for some big money. Finally, if you don’t think you can win, you are wrong. The aforementioned Happy Meal contest has had a different winner each week and has similar participant as these satellite contests.

    IMPORTANT
Some of these contests are set up as multi entry and you can multi enter immediately.

Hopefully we can have some fun with this and we see the winners do well at the Masters increasing there bankroll or even hitting a big payday! Questions, fire away. Thanks

I’m in I won two last time almost a 3rd and I am not good at all and this is better than competing in the larger ones as Coop has described.

High ball flight seems helpful on this track. Anywhere to find stats on this for iron play? (PGA keeps apex height off the tee but i don’t think they correlate)

Hey Coop send me an invite to the golf forum league and I will help fill them up. Thanks!
