BANKROLL FORUM

Hi. I have $300 left in my account. I have lost my ass off this MLB season play H2Hs. Played just a few GPPs at small buy ins this year. That said, here I am, at $300 from a $3000 Post NBA bankroll. I am not the type of guy to research all day or spend any amount of time at all to risk some 10% of my bankroll going forward. Seems like a giant waste of time and I dont get how anyone can spend hours doing something just to see pennies for profit. I do this for fun, not because I need it to buy those juicebox’s for the kids.

I want to go all in with this $300 tonight and I come to you for guidence on how to do this. I want to focus on PGA Olympics on DK.

My initial thought is just to throw this all in on the $300 3 Wood. That 25K 1st place price for just 500+ entries is enticing. It seems to me the likely hood of cashing against 500 people would be easier then something like the $100 or lower with so many more people.

Again I have played next to no GPPs this year, so any help will be great.

    I’d imagine so.
I’m not sure the majority on here realize how many people are out there using similar logic as the OP on a nightly basis. It’s why people argue for limits and regulations….and it may seem unnecessary if you only see things rationally….but as evidenced here that’s not the case for everybody.

I don’t know the OP’s financial situation, so this could be much ado about nothing, but I do hope either way, if they were to let the $300 ride and lose they don’t follow that up by redepositing $3,000 to get back to their high to feel good again. Or redeposit $1,500 to put in a double up, because obviously that will win and than get you back to $3,000.
I say that because that’s the damaged logic I would use while playing Casino games. Sorry if I’m being presumptuous or mistakenly projecting, but it was hard not to read that and see that potential self-destructive path.

Geez. You guys. Im far from broke. I lose this money I will go to work with a smile on my face and continue in my yearly NFL leagues. DFS has always been 3rd fiddle. I won 3K in NBA and just been playing off profit. I dont get why everyone needs to be Dr Phil on every thread instead of just answering the questions at hand. Believe it or not. NOT everyone is a damn degenerate. I said in the OP this is purely fun for me. I can see this is going no where. A moderator can defintely just delete this. This is about as much of a waste of time as risking 10% of the $300 I have.

  • mchin1027

Some GPP advice – the percentage of people who cash doesn’t change much based on the buy-in, so it might be easier to finish in first, but not to cash.

I understand that part. My thinking is that with so many more entries, the cash line would probably be much higher, given the multitude of combinations not covered in the lower entry limit GPPs. In a sport like PGA I figured that would be extra important?

  • jonconnington

If you are aiming for first, select the players that are the same price as the “good plays”. You have to differentiate. If you just want to cash, build a lineup with who you think will do best and let the rest of the field take more risk.

If this is truly what you feel like doing, I’ll give you some advice.

Are you just hoping to slide into the money and double up? If so, take a cash-game style approach and go with safer picks —- guys with high floors and not necessarily high ceilings.

If you’re wanting to win or bust (which is a more typical GPP mentality), then I advise rolling the dice on a few gambles. Do some research on who will be the highest owned guys and try to fade some of them. Try to find some diamonds in the rough in the $6000-$7000 range that has the potential to win, or, could go +7 on Day 1.

    That would be my approach.

THIS. Good lord, people. You act like if he loses $300 he should check into rehab for a gambling addiction 😂😂😂

My advice is to blast the 3 wood, it will give you a fun sweat and it polarizes your outcome – you go broke often but when you don’t you at least double up and could possible smash off a big win. Do you really want to mincash a couple $20s and have ~$100 in your account just so these guys can tell you to stick to $1 double up to work it back up?

  • Olhausen

My advice is if you’ve lost most of the 3k you’ve won from NBA playing MLB and you have have ask people on a message board how to go about putting your last 300$ into one contest. I’d say it’s probably not a good idea cause you are most likely going to lose it.

  • Pickle29

If you’re going all-in, dump the whole thing in to the 3 Wood and ride the sweat all weekend.

If I was using my last $300 on a PGA entry, I certainly wouldn’t make it for the unpredictable, no-cut Olympic event. Find something that you can research a little better and make the best darn lineup you’ve ever put into a contest. That way, if you go down, you KNOW you went down with your best team.

This weekend is not the weekend in which to do that. Just my opinion, of course.

Do you read? He has said more than once that he does not care about the money. JFC, some of you are acting like he is throwing his life away or something.

He wants to gamble. There’s nothing wrong with that especially considering he says he can afford to lose it.

OP, my advice: Take STLcards’ advice.

  • cccalloway

Go big or go home! As long as the $300 doesn’t matter to you, I say go for the big score against smaller field for sure. If you hit, you have a nice sized NFL roll to play with!

  • Tammy409

No kidding. I remember vividly back in my late 20’s; my first month in the Stock Mkt; lost $12K in one day and was grousing about it to a friend… He just glared at me silently and then said “Don’t be such a pussy.” Good advice.

Fair enough. I guess I was forgetting that some people are just idiots.

I suppose it also is in everyone’s best interest to encourage individuals like this because people willing to throw around hundreds and thousands of dollars without a care is beneficial to those who are winning players.

    Carry on.

  • BrendanBurns615

Hey, this is my first post on Rotogrinders and I am new to Fantasy. But I understand where you are coming from. I have played online poker for years and this is common practice. Why not just withdraw the 300$? You are clearly not a winning MLB player in HU match ups, at least in the sample size you have. Be patient and wait until NBA season.

Time and Patience are the two most powerful weapons in gambling. Your going to be a huge underdog to the guys who regularly put in action in 300$ GPP’s, there are no leaks in those line ups, period. Also, factor in the rake and your looking like a 30/70 dog.

FORTUNATELY, when that 30% equity realizes itself in a GPP it actualizes as a large lump sum. Your expected value is horrendous but if your just taking a shot…who cares I guess?

I took a shot a few years back in a 10/20 PLO game….Punted off 8k with the nuts super deep and a wrap got there on me… I guess burning a few buy ins in the 1/2 zoom games really put me on tilt. How far I have come.

Anyway, it’s good to be on the forums and goodluck with your shot bud. If you do bink it take the money and run Steve Miller style.

You should not assume things. You know what they say?

I have taken STLCardinals advice and waiting for a slate I like and researching it to the high heavens. Have yet to see that slate. Thought about last night, and using Dallas Keuchel. Glad I did not go forward. Thought about today with Carlos Martinez, but havent committed.

Thank you all for the replies. I will post a link whenever I decide on a slate so you all can continue to laugh at me.

Not everybody wants to see you crash and burn. Your goal is not to slowly grow your bankroll, but to have fun and try to win big. If thats how you want to play, then don’t let anybody talk you out of it. Have fun and good luck, let us know how you do.
