I’m going to give this one a try. For the last few weeks, I’ve been in a golf rut not even cashing and finally I did at the British Open. I finished in the top half of folks-I didn’t cash much, but I did. I was losing so much that I took a two week break from golf and normally I’m not that awful.

  • MrBreeze

Headed down to the beach last night for the week. So I don’t have access to my normal computer to hand build lineups. Thinking I may try the SE method this week, or I could just use a lineup generator, I don’t know. I did bring my clubs though, so I know whatever I do, I am going golfing.😎

The 3M Open… the debut of this event in 2019 was one of my better weeks in DFS that year.

Last year in 2020, it was my first and only 0/6.

    Golf DFS in a nutshell!

Looking at last years results its a big head-scratcher.

DJ withdrew after round 1, Paul Casey, Tommy Fleetwood, Russell Henley and Bubba Watson all missed the cut.
    Someone named Michael Thompson won.
The rest is a list of pretty good ball strikers and guys who are short but accurate off the tee (except Finau and Wolff who also finished high).

From what I recall, and looking at the ST map, there is a TON of water on this course. Particularly off the tee.

Should be fun. And best of all… no Milly Maker this week!

  • cplatt87

Matt Wolff has gone 1st-T12th in the 2 years this has run, so on paper he seems like a good course horse. The concern is how bad his form has been lately outside of the US open. I think his price will determine whether or not I end up using him. If he’s 5 figures (which seems likely given the weak field), I’ll probably stay away.

  • Stangs13

Have a buddy that works at the course (it’s about 5 minutes from my house) so I have played it a few times. It is full of water. Definitely have to stay dry to be successful. Also cool non dfs side note there are monster bass and pike in the ponds on the course.

    Local yokels:
    1) Troy Merritt grew up in Minnesota and attended Winona “Judd” State University before transferring to Boise St. He has a top 10 and a missed cut here at TPC Twin Cities.
    2) Eric “Skinny Jeans” Van Rooyen played for the University of Minnesota. He missed the cut in his first try here last year.
    3) Tom “Cold Cut” Hoge lives in North Dakota and is a 2 time winner of the Minnesota state amateur. He’s 2 for 2 making the cut here but has finished outside the top 20 both times.

Any chance we get a ton of WD’s and Smylie Kaufman gets another crack at a tournament?

    Someone named Michael Thompson won.

All I remember from last year’s event was the incredible long green side bunker shot that Thompson hit stiff to the pin when everyone was expecting him to choke (by blading it or leaving it 30 feet short). Easily one of the top 10 pressure shots of 2020. Think it was on 16 or 17 – I’m sure we’ll see it a couple times during the week on highlights.

I remember there was some chatter about him about a year ago, but it seems like he hasn’t really lived up to the hype so far. Not sure I can click on his name even if it’s a very cool one.

This was DJs shot tracker from 18 in Rd 1 last year. I remember watching it live.

Shot 1 332 yds to right fairway, 209 yds to hole
Shot 2 198 yds to water, 35 ft 7 in. to hole
    Shot 3 Penalty
Drop in right fairway, 195 yds to hole
Shot 4 182 yds to water, 38 ft 7 in. to hole
    Shot 5 Penalty
Drop in right fairway, 194 yds to hole
Shot 6 180 yds to water, 43 ft 9 in. to hole
    Shot 7 Penalty
Drop in right fairway, 185 yds to hole
Shot 8 186 yds to green, 2 ft 9 in. to hole
    Shot 9 in the hole

What I love is that he hits it in the water three times and then sticks it 3 feet. Sinks the putt for a 9. Then withdrew.

Got to be the first time Harman was ever replaced with a shorter golfer.

    Happy 3M open guys.

Wow 2 seconds of the Happy meal being up, 8 people registered as I got a dummy LU in. 5 minutes later 25 are in…. Thanks guys for registering early.

I am a world of NOISE this week. I have a bit of bias to the fed ex rankings. (we are coming down to it, and guys need to get to their spots. 125, 75, 50 and 30 have been the cut spots in last few years. I believe this can/will have impact on outcomes, especially 3M.

I am also excited for the Olympics. So I did a brief review of the field. Specifically who if anyone is playing in the 3M, missing the Olympic experience (time with athletes, opening ceremonies and non golf related things)

fed ex rk name 3M sal
    72 Jhonattan Vegas 7500 (VEN)
    202 Mito Pereira 7600 (CHI)
    148 Rafael Campos 6000 (PER)
    97 Sepp Straka 7100 (AUT)

also gonna look at who is coming from Sandwich to Minnesota.

what you think about these probably differ than me, not really between the ropes, just something I think is relevant NOISE.

That came on the heels of an 80-80 at the Memorial and he then withdrew here citing a bad back. Interestingly enough he showed up the very next week for the WGC-St.Jude and shot sub 70 all 4 rounds. After that he won twice and finished 2nd twice in his next 4 events without really taking any injury time off at all.
DJ is a supreme talent but can turn it on and off like a faucet it seems.

Uhhhhhhh…. Why is Keith Mitchell only 6800 in this field? Asking for a friend.

I am thinking of fading those that flew in from England after playing all four rounds over there. Already have a WD from Harman.

This seems like the perfect event for DJ to curb stomp the field. His form is actually pretty good and Fed Ex playoffs start soon.

No way he misses six in a row. He had two top fives before that in similar events.

He’s top 20 off the tee on the season. Approach is meh but he’s got the talent.
