Hey fellow rotogrinders, need some help.

I am in a season long hr pool and i made the mistake of picking greg bird at the start of the season with his hot spring. luckily I can swap two players on my team but i can only swap them with players that have the same amount of HRs or less.

So Bird has 1 hr, who do you think in the second half that has 1 hr or less (can be guys not called up yet) will have the most at the end of the year.

I am thinking Moncada, but the issue is i have Abreu too and can not have two players on the same team.

Any other suggestions besides moncade with some HR potential in the second half?

That’s rough man. Here are a couple I like although none are going to get you a ton of HR, but will out produce Bird.

Ji-Man Choi – With Bird probably on the shelf for the rest of the season and Austin on the shelf for the foreseeable future Choi has the opportunity to be an everyday player if he takes the opportunity. I could see him hit 10 in the 2nd half with regular at bats.

Stephen Drew – He will be splitting time with Difo but he’s proven to have power throughout his career. You could get 5-7 while Turner is out.

Luke Voit – He’s been splitting time at 1B with Carpenter. However, the Cards love his bat and power so much they played Carpenter at 2nd the other day. Look for this to potentially continue. Voit has 10-12 HR upside if he plays everyday.

    Y. Moncada – Don’t go this route. He’s just a big name and isn’t smashing in AAA. I wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up spending most of the season in the minors, could be a Sept call up.

Rhys Hoskins – If you are intent on picking someone in the Minors Rhys Hoskins would be my choice. He has big time power and has excelled at every level. He’s done everything he can do in the minors and is now just waiting for his name to be called. Once the Phillies decide he’s the 1B of the future and not Joseph he could become a household name in fantasy. Should he get called up soon I could easily see 10 -13 homers the rest of the way.

Overall I would pick from the top three (probably Voit) depending on where you are in the standings.

I am currently only 4 hrs back from first place.

Also for my second swap for a little strategy i was think of maybe swapping out trout (the two guys ahead of me have him) because i think with a thumb injury could hurt his power and just hits alot more doubles and swapping him for maybe a JD martinez or Nelson Cruz.

I could also swap Abreu out for either one of them as well

    Thoughts?

If the guys in front of you have Trout it makes sense to swap him. I personally would go with Cruz. He went a long stretch without hitting one until last night and could get hot again.

Marcus Semien just returned and he has 0 HR for the season but we know he will mash many of them in 2H2017. He’s probably your best option by a mile. Some others to consider are …

This seems to be your best answer now. This is a guy who did hit 27 home runs last year (and 15 the year before). He hit 2 home runs in 31 AB’s on his minor league rehab stint as well.

Possibly. Don’t forget he had a pretty serious wrist injury that kept him out 3 month. Wrist injuries are known the really zap power. He could have nice power but could also turne into a peerless player. That remains to be seen.

I really like Ji-Man Choi with his big lefty power in the small Yankees ballpark. If he keeps the job, he should easily collect 10-15 homers in the second half of the season.

  • grasso17

unfortunately i will miss out on voit, we can make the swaps until the allstar break.

semiem could be a nice pick

  • grasso17

so cruz hitting a bomb screwed me, who is the best hr potention with 16 hr or less, im swapping trout out for strategic reasons.

    THinking maybe JD martinez?

  • PujolsJunkie

Never know when Trumbo could get scorching hot. He’s at 14.
