    Al Smizzle’s Quarter Arcade Challenge!

Tired of seeing the sharks with 10-20 lineups tear up the large field tournaments? Spend more time on the forums complaining that if only you had a bigger bankroll you could do it too? Well, you can. Here’s the challenge:

    1) buy 20 entries in the DraftKings quarter arcade every day for a week
    2) play any mix of lineups you want (mix, cash lineups, contrarian, stacks, mini-stacks, whatever)
    3) post your results here

If you’re good at it, you’ll see a nice boost to your bankroll for only a $5 investment each day. If you’re not good at managing that many lineups you’ll have a greater appreciation for what people who can succeed with the multi entry approach do day in and day out. Either way, we all win.

Tried this in NBA, going at it again in MLB, and I’m blogging about it this time. Day 2 results: https://rotogrinders.com/blog-posts/the-quarter-arcade-chronicles-vol-3-704169

They post the daily tourney links and it’s not hard to take ur quarter arcade scores and check to see where they would’ve landed on the higher priced GPP’s. This is what I’ve been doing and I would be down significantlyin BR, unless I upped the cash game volume to offset, much like the hosts do and recommend. I’ve only been doing the comparison part for a few days now, my best would’ve been 46th. Don’t forget to add a place for each lineup you would’ve cashed so you know the exact place you finish. Not sure if someone has mentioned this or not yet as this thread is now over 9 pages and I’m ignorant to the last 8, if so, apologies. I miss nba already. Grind on.

Oh I remember this thread. Think I was one of the instigators. I think it was meant to prove how hard it is. Instead it reinforced everything I thought so I ramped it up this year and have profited about a year and a half worth of my normal salary. In other words, thanks smizzle!

If I may ask, do you have a salary?

Funny. To be more specific in the last 5 days alone I’ve won the payoff pitch Sunday and took 5th and 6th in the swing for the fences. Now, this isn’t a post to toot my own horn. In fact, it’s exactly the opposite.

A year ago myself and a few others simply told people to pump the breaks on the word “genius” that was being thrown around in regards to certain players that were huge multi entry guys. From that this thread was born. My point is, I’m no genius (I’m sure you’ve figured that out) just a guy that caught a break and could afford to throw 200 entries in the swing for the fences.

For the record I never had a problem with multi entries just the perception certain people liked to play up in order to brand themselves and the subsequent fawning over.

You have to admit though, that especially at the higher levels it’s another instance in which having the bankroll helps you over the guy taking a random shot that he wouldn’t ordinarily. Or just the people that can afford 1 or 2 bullets but not 20-30. It’s a monster edge. One you still have to exploit and manage, but a huge edge all the same.

In the poker days can you imagine being able to legally enter 30 seats into the Sunday Million? Would you ever say there wasn’t an edge in that?

Wait, let me get a pen, that’s a good nugget of info..

So you’re saying that having more money than the average person, or choosing to invest more of your money in yourself than the average person does, is a benefit in certain areas of life?

    Holy crap! Genius!

I would gladly do this, if EVERYONE was on the same playing field….I will raise the stakes…Not only can you NOT multi enter, but you can’t use any research of any stats etc either…You enter LU’s based strictly on your sports knowledge of those players etc. The problem is, there would be no way to “monitor” this…Sure, multi enter, do your 250 max in EVERY contest you can find, but don’t use any programs, no research, no nothing but your knowledge of sports…THEN let’s see how many people profit. To me that’s the true test…let’s see who knows sports instead of who knows #‘s. This is DFSports not DFMath. I challenege anyone that wants to do this…bring it on.

Yeah no professional sports teams use math/analytics or anything to build their teams.

What I find hard to believe is that you don’t read any articles or look up any stats on this very site in which you are posting on their message board

  • FFguru71

I would even expand it to be “limited” stats….just what you can find for free…like on ESPN, MLB etc.

  • rebkell

I don’t really understand all the hatred for math/stats, all the numbers in the world don’t help you if you don’t know what to do with them. I wonder if you get to even look at boxscores, after all they are stats. The whole of DFS is based on stats. The game is what it is, so you try to find every advantage anyway you can.

yeah man, finally someone said it! and if you have an IQ over 100 you need to get drunk or hit yourself in the head with rock or something. We need to level this shit up, make everything fair, just like in the real world.

No fangraphs either….simple basic stats….like on ESPN etc. use ONLY the basic of basic stats..batting average, slugging % Bvp etc…Whatever someone wants to use that isn’t advanced sabermeterics.

No….I just want it to be about the SPORTS aspect of it, NOT the MATH and numbers aspect of it…afterall it is DFS which stands for daily fantasy sports. I’m betting 95% or more DFSers that are successful at Daily fantasy are NOT very good at season long fantasy…and they would probably tell you that because that’s based more on making transactions, knowing players etc. Thats more sports knowledge oriented. You can’t have different players every day…yu have to manage injuries etc. That’s far more skillful to be continuously good at that.

Even lineup creation is BS and not real sports. Why can people just “click” and pick their players? They should have to make all their lineups 10 minutes before lock by shooting a basket/hitting a target with the player(s) that they want. Once you tag the player, they’re on your lineup; no do-overs.

Of course, some fish will aim for Curry and hit Livingston instead and do well… but them’s the breaks.

Are you calling BvP basic? It’s the most advanced MLB stat there is.

the BVP was created specifically for the BvP discussion:

The Bulletproof Vest Partnership (BVP), created by the Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant Act of 1998 is a unique U.S. Department of Justice initiative designed to provide a critical resource to state and local law enforcement.

ONE MILLION BVP VESTS: Since 1999, the BVP program has awarded more than 13,000 jurisdictions, a total of $393 million in federal funds for the purchase of over one million vests (1,197,348 as of December, 2014). BVP is a critical resource for state and local jurisdictions that saves lives.

real baseball fans don’t use stats and they sure as hell don’t get their “sports knowledge” from ESPN. why? because they were watching the games! because they are TRUE fans. And only true fans should win daily fantasy. So you might not like this, but maybe we should cut off all the barstool bros that think they are “sports knowledge gurus” bc they watch sportscenter and eat wheaties (which are disgusting, btw). No stats. No highlights. No recaps. No box scores. You can only use knowledge you acquired by watching live baseball games.
