Another year and another fantasy sports bill filed in the Alabama legislature. This year its House Bill 361 by Rep Kyle South. It has eight co-sponsors. One of which is the Speaker of the House. If you live in Alabama now is the time to contact your rep and senator and ask for their support of this bill. I think this will be the 3rd of 4th time they have tried so don’t get your hopes up.

URGENT THE ALABAMA HOUSE COULD VOTE ON HOUSE BILL 361 AS EARLY AS TOMORROW (5/8). PLEASE CONTACT YOUR REPRESENTATIVE AND ASK THEM TO VOTE YES ON THIS BILL! YOU CAN USE THE FANTASY FOR ALL LINK TO CONTACT THEM IF YOU LIKE

Update 5/10/19 The Alabama House of Representatives passed HB 361 this past Wednesday. The bill passed by a fairly large margin (74-22). The bill will now go to a Senate Committee where it will begin the next stage of the legislative process. There is no timetable when the committee will here this bill. If you haven’t already, Please use the link above to contact your Senator and ask them to pass this legislation.

UPDATE 5/24 The Senate failed to vote on the fantasy sports bill yesterday. It was up for debate nearing final passage when Senator Arthur Orr began asking a bunch of lame questions. He “ had some issues” with the bill so it was carried over at the call of the chair. We are running out of time as the session may end a week from today. The bill will not appear on any calendar so it will be up to the sponsor to call it back up for debate. I believe he will try it again but don’t know which day. The Senate meets Tuesday evening.

5/28 The bill has been passed by the Senate with one amendment, It will go back to the House where they will have to concur with the amendment. If they do, they are expected to, then it goes to the governor.

5/28 UPDATE The House has concurred with the Senate amendment. The bill is on its way to the governors desk.

5/31 According to Senator Tom Whatley, the Governor has signed the bill.

6/17 FanDuel and Draft are operating in Alabama

    6/18 DraftKings is live

I may be wrong, but I believe he was talkin about tenn. sports online betting. Hopefully Al. fantasy will be much sooner.

FD and DK will have to go through the registration process. They will have precedent over others since they were here when it was banned. Late summer probably before football season sounds about right.

I’d expect this to move much faster than betting in TN. I’ll set it at mid July. Congrats to Bama players & doesn’t look like they banned college sports either

This is HUGE! Sadly, the I-10 FL welcome center shudders at the thought of my lost vending machine income from running across the border!

Is there a time limit that it has to be signed by the governor before it’s revoked and sent back?

The governor must sign or veto legislation within 6 days of transmittal (excluding Sunday), or it becomes law without his/her signature. If legislation is passed during the last 5 days of the session, the governor must sign or veto it within 10 days of session adjournment, or the legislation is pocket vetoed.

So we should be good (session ends June 18th) unless vetoed!

awesome. I will get the ink and quill ready for Lady Kay of House Ivey

  • unageo09

The session is actually expected to end today. She has 10 days to sign it or it becomes a pocket veto and does not become law. We need her signature.

considering the controversial legislation that already passed this year that she signed, it would be shocking not to get a signature here IMO.

  • unageo09

A republican bill with a republican majority voting for this bill should warrant a signature by the republican governor. She has a lot of bills to go through so I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets signed next week.

I’m honestly so shocked a Republican majority in this state would go for something that could be construed as gambling related that it’s hard not to be nervous that conservative older lady might balk, Back. Time to start tweeting flattery at old Kay on the regular. I’m gonna tell her her sweet tea is to die for, I do declare.

  • unageo09

One of the Alabama political reporters said that there was no indication that Ivey wouldn’t sign the bill. Also, the session will go into at least tomorrow.

  • franksmith494

it’s like national signing day; it’s not over till the fax is in, or in this case, the ink has dried.

  • unageo09

Senator Tom Whatley just replied to one of my tweets that the Governor signed the bill!

  • manoffewwords

THANKS for your tireless posts and help to get this passed, but I am sure my letter to Gov. was what got it done. LOL. NO MORE DRIVING TO GA.

  • golfer32

No more trips to ardmore tn

  • stpelikan66

I supposed it’s safe to assume that the money y’all save in gas for runs across the border will be gladly put to DFS, 😆.

  • CompleteCrest321

So what kind of time frame are we looking at before we can start playing. I saw one post that said mid July. I remember when Mississippi passed their bill they were playing within two weeks.

  • unageo09

It all depends on how fast they get the registration process up and applications accepted and processed.
