The Alabama legislature will meet for the first time for the regular session next Tuesday on February 7th. Senate Bill 28, Alabama Fantasy Sports Contests Act, is the piece of legislation that I think most of us in Alabama who want DFS to come back to the state are most interested in. The bill is sponsored by Senator Thomas Whatley ®. You can read about the Bill if you want: wanthttps://legiscan.com/AL/text/SB28/2017 I will try to update this thread as the bill makes progress during the session and hopefully passes. Now is the time to email and call your reps and let them know you would like their support for this bill!

    Update

Alabama House Bill 354 could possible come up for vote on April 18, 2017. The House meets at 1:00 pm.

http://www.legislature.state.al.us/aliswww/ISD/HseChamberAudio.aspx House Chamber live audio. The live stream should start around 1:00 p.m.

    Update 2: April 18, 2017

HB 354 Passes by narrow margin in House after voting machine malfunction. Now will go to Senate for their vote.

    Update 3: May 14, 2017

HB 354 still awaits a vote in the Alabama Senate. The Senate convenes on Tuesday May 16th at 2:00 p.m. It is not known at this time if the bill will come up for vote on this day. This is the last week of the 2017 Legislative session.

FINAL UPDATE: Alabama House Bill number 354 Fantasy Sports Contest Act died in the Senate this afternoon on May 19, 2017. The current legislative session is now over and no further action will be taken.

I wish FD or DK would put up a weeks worth contests for those of us who go out of state to enter.

  • icepirate11

Guys they are never going to know your unhappy and like some one said it will all be forgotten. What needs to be done is a group needs to take out a one page ad in the Montgomery paper this ad needs to have all the names of the people that are unhappy with what went down and the ad needs to tell them that these people will not be voting for you in the next election. That’s just my opinion. Like some one said votes and tax’s dollars. So instead of spending your money out of state ( and they want notice that not enough people will do that) take that money buy a page in the paper get an online petition going with the names of everyone that will not vote for them. Then print it in the paper so they can see it. Then maybe you can get a special session.

I agree. At least two or three MLB tourneys so we can reserve spots. I travel to Ga. every Tuesday to enter PGA contests and MLB for that nite .Wish I could reserve for at least 3 nites .NFL and NASCAR I handle like pga

    Indian casinos are to blame

Yeah. Luther Strange actually ran commercials on tv trying to make sure they were protected

I agree. Regretfully this will die out and be forgotten unless we as a group can continue to voice our displeasure

Would it be possible to contact new AG to see if he would lift the cease and desist order by Luther Strangelove. I have heard he has no problems with DFS

We all need to write him!!!

  • Brandon684

I think Trip Pittman is also to blame as he pitched a fit after not getting his way about the autism bill that Whatley also sponsored. I believe the DFS bill dying in the Senate was his way of sticking it to Whatley.

I agree writing the AG may be a good idea. If he were to lift the ban then that would force the legislature to take action in the next session.

We need to set up a hashtag to get his attention also

Senate never voted. The session ended and they will not resume till next year. Now a new bill has to be brought in and voted on

Whatley and Sanford were at the mic when the motion to adjourn was given. Whatley said on Twitter he was going to give it one more shot but they couldn’t get it in before the motion was made.

I sent a long nice letter to AG asking to lift C and D order. Please do same. Thanks

The Senate had until midnight to get things done yesterday, right? That’s my understanding at least. If that’s accurate, and Senators Whatley and Sanford were at the mic, the decision by the Senate to adjourn and call it a year at 7 PM is even more infuriating.

You can contact the AG at the link provided. I also encourage everyone to write. It can’t hurt. It may take a petition or something I just don’t know if he has (or will) the capability to do it.

Contact link added to original post.

A group of us have be talking with Whatley, and he needs is to support him in asking the AG to reinstate DFS until they vote in it, so speak with Whatley and see how you can help the cause.

  • Brandon684

Whatley responded to my tweet I sent him yesterday and he says to write to the AG

I contacted DK and asked about this idea for nitely contests possibly posting some of the $4-8 GPPs three or four nites in advance. They said it was a great idea that would enhance user experience. They will get back with me on this shortly. If we could make one trip a week and reserve spots in advance it would be close to having DFS. Go over on Tuesday and enter weekly events like NFL PGA NASCAR etc and MLB nitely contests. It might be good if others will contact DFS sites if you would like this.

I really think we need to start some sort of grass roots movement here in the state and see if we can get anywhere with this next year. There has been talk that the governor could call a special session but I find it very unlikely that DFS would even be brought up during that session. We know Senator Sanford is pro DFS and Senator Whatley is as well. Maybe they could help us organize into a group that could possibly make a difference. Maybe we need to be there at the state house if/when the next votes take place so the reps can actually see us and and know where care. Getting television stations and newspapers involved might help spread the word and holding a rally would surely draw some attention. I sent emails out to Sandord/Whatley and the AG but did not get any replies. We could start a facebook group to help spread the movement. Mostly importantly we need to pay attention to the elections and reach out to the pro dfs candidates and try to get them elected. Anyone else have any ideas/suggestions?

  • MSUUSA15

I see Strange is running for reelection. Anyone know who is running against him?

  • icepirate11

If im not mistaken there are like 18 different people that will be trying to run for that seat. Also you can tell by the lack of post now that this years session is over. Just what our politicians new would happen, now that it’s done the interest has faded. People move on. That’s what they were counting on

  • manoffewwords

I wrote two long letters to new AG and Governer, and no one had the courtesy to respond. They obviously don’t care about DFS
