Do u think we will be playing DFS next week with all this nonsense.. what are all the pros doing to fight this,, where are the petitions and letter to politicians

    Stevie,
I’m relatively new and trying to figure things out. My bankroll isn’t huge and I’m trying to find my good mix – I was wondering. Did you start out small and work your way up or just start high at the beginning? How did you know when it was time to move from working with small cash to something larger?

  • mbrennan5

I’m a new player who’s experiencing a little success in my second year of NFL cash games. I’m currently relying on Footballguys for a lot of my research and using their Value Chart / App.

What’s the best way for me to take my game to the next level? I bought one of the RotoAcademy courses (How to Construct Winning Daily Fantasy Football Rosters By J.M. Tohline) but wasn’t impressed with what I got out of it. I’ve been listening to podcasts on both sites, but I get more week to week knowledge than overall strategy out of them.

I don’t currently watch any other sports. How do you recommend to transition to another sport? I’m very well versed in NFL so everything else is a little daunting. Is this where developing a spreadsheet comes in?

I’m willing to spend a few hours+ a day on this but don’t know where to start. Should I purchase more courses? Do most pros use a homegrown spreadsheet or are there sites like Football guys for other sports that provide tools. Does anyone offer a more in-depth training program for purchase?

Do you think California is in danger? How soon?

It seems like the only way to get a decent bankroll is to take down a tournament. It also seems the only way to do that is with multiple lineups. I’ve exported the results of the top 10 or so and many of them have entered the maximum number of entries. Most of the entries are losers and are really across the spectrum. Are they throwing a bunch of nets over the side of the boat and hoping for a big catch. Or is there really that much skill involved? If all of the tournament contests were limited to 1 entry would the top-tier DFS players earn as much?

  • Bbondsmvp

So with wrecks, cut tires, blown engines etc, there really is no way to successfully grind Nascar DFS without a large number of lineups. Am I right?

Yes I do. I don’t think there’s anything we can do right now, there’s a lot of people on the ground for these sites.

I started with $300, and lost it very fast. I deposited $600 after that, and realized I had to put in the time and couldn’t just go off my sports knowledge. It wasn’t until last year when I finally started playing more $25 games. I tell all my friends the same thing, I wouldn’t play anything that you’re not comfortable losing, and I wouldn’t play a lot until I trust my routine.

Taking your game to the next level, could be as simple as putting more time into what you do. This year is the first year I’ve used a lot of spreadsheets, and I’m still more of a pen and paper type of guy. I spend 10-20 hours a week researching NFL slates, and I use a lot of game rewind to pick up on things the stats leave out. Digging deeper on WR/CB matchups, and what type of workload a players is getting is where I recommend you going next. I will say it a lot in here, but I think routine is the best thing I can teach new players.

Transitioning into another sport is much more mental than anything else. First of all you have to accept you might lose to start out, and you shouldn’t go crazy on your volume until you feel comfortable. For Baseball, not a lot of people watch the games, and still are very successful in what they do. A lot of stats and factors go into it, but again coming up with a routine is the best advice I can give.

I honestly get this question a lot, and I say the same thing every time.. If you put in the time, you can be successful at DFS NASCAR. Wrecks and issues are going to happen, and no I don’t think you have to have a ton of teams. There was one week I had 2 guys wreck on my cash lineup, and I still won 82% of my guys that weekend.

How do you go about constructing your cash game lineups in NBA?

  • SJR

What’s your basis for NFL GPP entries into a milly maker type tourney? If you wanna throw out 50 bullets do you go ok I’ll make 8 with Brady, 6 with Dalton etc and go from there?

BTW, love the Contrarian Corner article, it’s one of my go-tos

  • WoozyMoose

I know you’re a big GPP guy so I am curious, what is your biggest advice for transitioning from a successful cash game player to a better tournament/GPP one?

Hypothetically, if I have $50 a night in GPPs, which is the best way to spread it out to increase ROI long term based on your experience?

    1. x2 $25 Games
    2. x5 $10 Games
    3. x10 $5 Games
    4. x25 $2 Games
    5. x50 $1 Games

Thanks Stevie and good luck this weekend!

I don’t play a lot of cash games in the NBA. Like hardly any.

For GPPs I tend to look for guys I think will be low owned with upside, and take the chalk value plays. My biggest night this season came when .4% had Drummond and I had him on 6 or 7 of my 10 teams. He went for 68 fantasy points.

    Thanks for the kind words.

If I’m rolling out 50 teams, I will pick 10 QBs and play them each on 5 teams.

I typically play 25 teams in the Milly, and will go with 5 QBs 5 times each or 4 with 5 times and 5 different low owned plays that are very boom or bust. I really go crazy with trying to find the WR that is under priced that will go 4x. I’m sure you have seen that in the articles.

I’m working with a good friend of mine on this now. He’s very good with Cash games, but has struggled with GPPs. Before I get into which game, I’m going to give you the best advice I can. You have to be able to stomach taking risky players to ever be successful in GPPs.

I would recommend playing 5 teams in the $10 if you were going to play $50 in GPPs. The $10 GPP won’t give you life changing money, but they always have solid payouts and you’re not playing against 100k people.

A lot of people use DriverAverages.com. My By The Numbers article will give you the top 16 drivers chart. Remember a lot of fastest laps will come from drivers out front. These cars are much better in clean air.

We should have a lot more stuff for NASCAR next season.

  • BobGrinder

What metrics do you use to determine floor and ceiling is it just past performance? Where can one go to find out who will really be covering whom? Do you use GLSP when considering matchups?
