    Hey Grinders,

I just wanted to announce my exciting new role as Director of NHL content at RotoGrinders.

I wanted to touch base with all the hockey fans out there to see what you liked about RG’s NHL content last season, and what you didn’t like.
Also, we want to know what you would like to see more of for the upcoming season.

Your feedback is very important to us, as we work to continue to provide the best fantasy product on the market!

Feel free to post your suggestions here.

I know you may not have anything to do with how many NBA Grinders Live shows are on this site daily, but please suggest at least 1 NHL show per day, even if you may not be doing the show yourself. Also, a show closer to the first face off than 3pm Eastern would be nice so we can have the most up to date, accurate info possible.

It kills me that RG will still have their 3 hours of NBA talk even when there’s only 2 or 3 games, but you need 7 NHL games to warrant an NHL show. I really, really hate what the NBA has become since Jordan, Bird, Barkley, Magic, etc. retired. Today’s NBA players could care less about the quality of their product and that’s what makes it the single worst product in the entire entertainment industry.

Honestly even a periscope stream closer to lock would be great

Last year if I remember correctly there was a grind down on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. It had elite plays and secondary plays. One of the writers had so many elite plays that the term elite could be diluted a bit. Another writer was more selective which made elite have more meaning.

I’m pretty sure there was a grind down every day

There was a grind down everyday because I used it and played NHL every single day that games were being played.

We are going to have a different format for incentives this year. We will be more direct with who we are playing in all tiers. We are also bringing back player projections.

    One week to go…

There will be a Grind Down every day.

We will have a GrindersLive show on opening night and at least three shows per week (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday) throughout the NHL season.

Sorry pokerrob170 – We won’t be running an NHL GrindersLive show with four games or less, aside from opening night. However, any night we hit a decent amount of games, we will have a show. Even if it is not a Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday. Although the NHL schedule rarely has big nights on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

We have changed the content format and introduced a fantastic new advanced statistics article as well. So, I am not sure how you got to the “same ol, same ol” conclusion. I guess you can’t please everyone.

RG and FanDuel are also teaming up for a decent sized free roll to kick of the season as well. Stay tuned my friends.

Will the advanced statistics article be free or do you need to be signed up for the NHL package for that?

The trend stat of this year will be “Expected goals” combined with WOWY. You don’t need to pay for that info

    Pepsi,

Congrats on the new position! We need more singing out of you on Grinders Live. And a little appreciation for your 2016 Stanley Cup Champions, the Pittsburgh Penguins! Featuring Phil Kessel.

It was a brand new stat last year that was far from perfect and obviously still needs a boat load work to be done on it. But this year it will be a much more common talking point. Outside of YOU I don’t recall any one on any live shows or podcasts mentioned it or likely even knew what it was or how it was calculated. Glad you have a larger role at RG now!!!

Not sure how it’s negative telling someone what to look for in their research. Maybe the word Trend should have been replaced with “Go To” but if you need a smile :)

Whose xG model do you rely on, Rob?

I have been dabbling with my own. But it is flawed as well as we just don’t have enough data. I would pay good money to get the Royal road data emailed to me daily LOL. Jay had mentioned that the passing project may have weekly data made available so that will be a step in the right direction. We take what we can find till the chip tech is implemented and made available…..

Re: passing, Corey’s real time (believe he is trying to get the data out a few days after each game) tracking is available for free this season. He also has a patreon to donate to help him track the games faster.

EDIT: Here is the link to the Patreon

Hoping to replace #GoalieTilt with #RoyalRoad for all my lineups this year. The passing project is interesting to me and something I need to explore more, and would solve some flaws with expected goal models which have consistently shown that Alex Ovechkin over-produces his expectation every single year. This is an easy example, because Ovechkin takes so many shots from the exact same spot on the power play. The issue is of course every time he takes this shot the pass is either coming via Royal Road OR coming from John Carlson. I don’t actually know how the passing project would classify an umbrella formation pass like that.

Regardless this is really solving on whether or not a shooter is going after a moving or stationary goalie and how they’re changing the angle. Eventually with chips we’ll realize how much the elite scorers are truly changing the angle of their shots even on their own.
