    Grinders,

I am pumped to officially announce the partnership of RotoGrinders and RotoAcademy — my daily fantasy sports training platform.

RotoAcademy is an online marketplace for premium daily fantasy sports education. I’ve gathered some of my favorite DFS writers and analysts to create entire courses of educational daily fantasy sports content. Each premium course is made up of anywhere from four to 12 individual lessons. You’ll also notice what used to be GrindersU content offered as free courses. RotoAcademy will be replacing GrindersU as RotoGrinders’ premium educational source, but you can still read GrindersU content inside the free courses.

We will continually update the marketplace with both free and premium courses. The goal is to constantly adapt to what the DFS crowd wants and needs to learn to win in the current daily fantasy market. What you see is just the tip of the iceberg.

This initial launch is geared toward MLB (with one awesome PGA course from Notorious), and NFL is on the way. We hope to deliver more and better data-driven DFS content, all of which is the best and most useful on the internet. RotoAcademy will never sacrifice quality for quantity—I want to produce the most helpful analysis and provide the highest level of stats and information, hands down—which makes the premium offerings an investment in your daily fantasy sports future.

    In a nutshell, here’s RotoAcademy’s mission:

Deliver unique, actionable, and truly premium DFS educational content and advice

Provide a sustainable foundation from which you can become a profitable DFS player

Emphasize the process of truly learning DFS over individual picks

    Continually evolve and adapt

Maintain a scientific, data-driven approach to DFS

This is just the beginning for RotoAcademy. Ultimately, I want this to turn into a massive marketplace for one-of-a-kind daily fantasy sports education. We’re going to teach you to fish so you can level the playing field and start to profit as a DFS player. It’s not about telling you which guys to play in a single night or giving advice whose benefits expire after a few hours; we want you to develop long-term skills and alter your entire process so you can begin to make real money in daily fantasy sports.

For our initial launch, here’s a list of the premium courses that are available for purchase:

Daily Fantasy Golf Research and Strategies
Predicting Hitting: How to Use Performance and Matchups
The Process of Selecting Pitchers in Daily Fantasy Baseball
How to Use Coors Field to Your Advantage
    Advanced Pitcher and Batter Selection
Find the Pitcher Stats That Matter Most
How to Transition from Season-Long Fantasy Baseball to DFS
Using Pitch Values and Types to Find Positive MLB Matchups
MLB Rookies: Making Money on First-Year Players
Benefiting from Batting Orders in MLB
How to Utilize Batted Ball Stats
The Middle Ground on Batter vs Pitcher Data
How to Use Weather to Create an Edge in MLB

If you’ve read my DFS book series, you can think of RotoAcademy as an extension of that. We’re less interested in subjective opinions and more intrigued by objective analysis, data-driven advice, and expert tips.

Lastly, I want to mention I envision RotoAcademy turning into a community in which we can all help each other learn DFS. I feel like I have valuable insights in certain areas (GPP play, game theory, and exploiting randomness, for example), while I certainly struggle in others.

Everyone has their strengths. If you feel like you can offer meaningful, objective DFS analysis (and want to get paid for it), feel free to shoot me a message. We will continue to publish only the best of the best DFS content, but if you have the ability and the drive, I want to hear from you.

If you have suggestions for courses you’d like to see created (with the focus moving toward NFL), let us know. In effect, RotoAcademy is a platform through which you can pay us a small fee to perform the research and do the analysis you might not have the time to complete; thus, we work for you and want to provide the content that will benefit you most.

Thanks so much for your support (and to everyone who helped so much with the launch), and I hope you enjoy RotoAcademy!

Just finished Notorius’ golf course. Loved it. Not only did I realize how much I had to learn about golf, but a lot of his strategies are applicable across a variety of sports. I’m about $150 down in my golf career but feeling much more confident after this little investment.

I’m starting to work on my projection set up now. Thanks Derek and Jon!

A lot of good content on here although a little pricey. Will certainly pay for Noto’s golf course though. Coincidentally, Bales just started charging on his Player Model/Optimizer site, it had been free in Beta for the last couple of months. It’s good, but not $50 a month good. Ok, I exaggerated, it’s $49 a month on sale from $89 a month. Thanks for the free ride while it lasted.

I have to liken some of this to the Flipping Houses Seminars and Programs of old. Those guys were not teaching people out of the goodness of their heart, they were generating a steady stream of revenue, because Flipping Houses is not generally sustainable for 99.5 percent of participants including most that offered the courses, just like DFS is not. I don’t think there is anything wrong with this, just pointing out my opinion.

Fair enough, but keep in mind that for the majority, DFS is entertainment. Everyone’s goal is to make money, but it’s the fun factor AND the IDEA of making money that keeps people grinding. Also, perception sells. Always has, always will.

So what’s the difference between this and the Boot camps (live or online) that RG promotes with Smizz?

So what’s the difference between this and the Boot camps (live or online) that RG promotes with Smizz?

Video/live presentations vs. written courses is the biggest difference.

The Bootcamps are live events with 5-6 presenters. Players buy tickets and attend in person. You can also pay to watch those live presentations online later. On top of being a great format, the live presentation and videos give a more personal experience with the expert.

RotoAcademy is all written content. The courses are broken down into a variety of lessons wrapped around one central subject. The marketplace backend will be great for user experience as well, especially as the number of authors and courses quickly grows.

While I love the information provided at RotoAcademy, there is nothing that can replace the boot camp experience. The interaction with the top players of DFS, the Q&A, the strategies, and the lineup building group sessions can’t be replicated through RotoAcademy. RotoAcademy os obviously much more affordable and the idea of seeing the thoughts and minds of the greats of todays game is still extremely beneficial.

DFS is an information analysis based industry. The more information you have AND analyzed, the better you will become. It truly is that simple. The fly by the seat of the pants and “I just gotta good feeling about this” guys are rapidly becoming unable to compete. The courses I have purchased have proven to be filled with information that was well worth the purchase price.

Bootcamp took me from an idiot in MLB to above average. I won about the same in MLB this year that I won in my first year of NBA which I was very knowledgeable about. If I do to MLB next year what I did to NBA and NASCAR this year, I’ll be a top 10 player. This can be directly attributed to DFBC.

What I learned from RotoAcademy will also make me an even better player that can allow that to happen.

i agree with what some what else mentioned. about the subscription model.

im willing to or would much rather pay to read all the content a monthly fee, as opposed to having to buy each one individual. i did enjoy getting the roto academy pieces in an email each month.

is there a plan to go that sort of model?

Agreed. Good point. As well, we have not seen the widespread echo of “You can make a million dollars like I have if you follow these 6 simple steps”. It will come one day though…

I do wonder how to get the little quip under the RotoGrinder Avatar, I suppose to lend the individual more credence by the “perception” of others. Unfortunately, mine would say “2015 Month of July 749th ranked”.

I guess for now I will keep having fun and idealistically make some money.

    How long are the courses?

It varies. If you click a course from this link https://rotogrinders.com/rotoacademy you can select a course and view the lessons included.

I learned a great deal from using the rotogrinders university programs that had the phd and masters labels specifically for NBA dfs. And had a good 1st nba season. Started off really shaky and started winning with regularity by the nba playoffs.

I’m hoping I can be as successful with my first year of NFL dfs. And I took notes from the rotogrinders U. Too bad there is no widget that shows the FD and DK fantasy points for each player per game for the NFL.
