I’m a huge college football fan and really enjoyed DFS last year. With it likely gone, what other alternatives are there out there for those who like to do something during the season? Aside from weekly “pick em” games at Yahoo and ESPN, I’d be interested in something – even with zero money involved – just to make it more fun.

One idea I mentioned in a thread is the idea of a small league of 10-12 people where we’d each select 10 teams in a draft , and then follow them through the season…with no team getting picked more than twice.

I’ve been hoping that somehow some site out there would do college, but for now that doesn’t seem to be the case…unless I missed something.

I know Fanduel and DraftKings came out saying they wouldn’t offer NCAA DFS Games. Have the smaller sites (Feud, Aces, DraftDay, etc…) also done the same? Not saying they should or shouldn’t, but have we heard their stance on this yet?

  • BabyBuster

Totally agree – I want to keep this thing going.

I read your idea in the other thread. I think there are plenty of outlets for team fantasy right now, but DFS disappearing leaves a hole in the player by player games. That is what I would be looking for.

    Fantrax has season long leagues!

  • Heywood9855

My college fantasy league is entering it’s 10th season. While I enjoy it a lot, it doesn’t hold a candle to DFS. I’m going to run a small version on CFB DFS this season with my friends just to have a little fun. I will do the pricing and then people can put lineups in for a determined amount and then pay out via Paypal. I wrote CFB DFS for a website for years and now that has come to an end….very sad.

  • Gfry3

Fantrax is highway robbery at its finest…Fun game but paying about 50% rake, almost as bad as CBS season long, I will pass. Would love to find a cheaper season long alternative.

Why isnt’ DK and Fanduel offering games now that the states are trending in the direction to legalization? They have pending lawsuits against the state of Illinois. If they win, why not tell the NCAA to F’ off?

Once they get the biggest markets legal (Ill, TX, NY) I see no reason for them to be fearful of the NCAA

Truer words have never been spoken. Not that the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 caused one of the worst economic crashes in our country ever….things like that definitely don’t help. It’s not like anything crooked is caused by this and it isn’t our fault NCAA players don’t get paid. Hell, most of them get a FREE college education and don’t have to start off their adult lives in an uphill climb with student debt. The NCAA makes so much off these players for free it’s not even funny and yet I can’t make $ off Blake Mayfield throwing for 6 TDs anymore, and because why?

Because a lot of state legislatures are including a clause that says the sites can not offer contests on amateur sports

Because only the NCAA is allowed to exploit (make money off of) their amateur “student” athletes.

Last year Chris Kay ran a 50$ Season Long CFB League on Fantrax that was lots of fun. I’m sure he will run one this year with No DFS and maybe a few others. He kept the money through PayPal to avoid the 50% rake and everything turned out great. We had a bunch of the CFB regs in the league

Chris Kay (InsiderFantasy), OhioState241, JStern3, AndrewKatz, Russell Clay, MachoUno…

hey do u know if aces is out on cfb too or are they still offering it?

Which ever site offers NCAA football will make millions of dollars in rake due to FD/DK being scared of the NCAA and not making games. I’m sure someone will come through due to the huge popularity of nccaf and the massive amount of rake that will be out there for the taking on Saturdays this fall. I just hope it is a site that will use 2 QB’s, getting to watch my QB’s play 2 times in a slate made the sweat and fantasy product a lot more enjoyable.

This was my thinking when FD/DK first announced the CFB ban. I’m not so sure anymore. It is going to be costly for someone to handle all of the NCAAs lawsuits and implement a program that blocks users in states that have banned DFS/CFB.

I hope some some alternative emerges other than betting spreads.

No site in the United States will ever offer NCAA again.

Is this something you can back up with a source or just your opinion/guess? To my knowledge, no sites other than FD/DK have came out with a stance on this.

Aces for example, still has a CFB tab on their contest pages….if the decision has been made, I’d think they would have done the same as DK and FD and removed it. But they haven’t….so I think a statement of fact like the above is a bit premature and misleading……

I too hope someone steps in and provides an outlet. The states that did not include a ban on college sports would be in play. NCAA has resources in play here too and they may not bother with some of the small fish if it is not tossed in their face. Who knows, will be interesting to see what options are there this fall.

The laws that are passing in each state specifically ban contests on amateur sports.

None of these companies are going to jeopardize their existence over offering a niche product that is specifically against the law.

DFS college football and college basketball are dead.

  • jjadamietz

I know Fanduel and Draftkings dropped college football, but is there any sites out there that are going to continue games in 2016?

  • MrFantasy

Offshore I’d imagine. Would be great if someone like Draftpot launched it to gain traffic.

  • Hkhotsskhotb

NY bill has college as a prohibited event. This should create a major momentum to keep dfs rolling and to bury college dfs for good. Somehow college dfs became a sacrificial lamb in all this. The sites can operate, why would they ever even try to buck the system to get college back. Killed the best dfs sport out there.

  • kantiger77

What’s particularly frustrating about it is that one of the side benefits of DFS is an increased interest in college football, period, or in any sport that DFS had games for. I love CFB anyway, but it had even more interest when there was DFS included. For instance, think MAC games and such. It’s really short sighted by the NCAA as it helped expose their sports and now they’re taking that away for what are terrible, intellectually inconsistent reasons. I think the only way this gets resolved long terms is if the feds legalize gambling overall and in that include college sports.

No college athlete will ever be harmed by people playing DFS. So insane.

Maybe when the debt hits 25 trillion they will finally want to get some of the tax money they are losing from offshore sportsbooks, and will just legalize gambling.

  • theoddsmaker

Wouldn’t people not be offering it because they aren’t allowed? Why would sites begin offering it if others backed out?

  • madmanjayWV

I’m still lost on the CFB / CBB college sports thing.

What federal law was changed or what not that caused CFB/CBB to all of a sudden become ILLEGAL? I know some school and a few players tried to sue either DK or FD or maybe it was both claiming a bunch of BS….never did hear if anything came of that
