Question to the forum and not a humble brag so please dont take it that way. Won a Thunderdome ticket last week…would you rather play a small field smaller payout like this week (23-man, top 5 payout) or wait for a larger field like the US Open in a month or so? (Masters was 150 person contest, unsure on payout…..Players Champ was 30 person top 7 payout). My mindset leans play less people but curious what others are

Personally id play the bigger field, not just for more players in the DK contest, but id rather play that gpp when the actual field for the event is stronger with a lot more good options. Unless this week you really like a guy who you think nobody else will be on, but I feel like this week in that type of event everyone will be on the same handful of golfers.

Since you don’t play thunderdome weekly I think you should base it off roster construction you prefer. In this contest you get lots of chalk, hence paying 5300 you are not going to use your Bodo type players like you may in 3 and 4 dollar tourneys. This week the chalk will be higher since there are not as many big players. For the open there will be chalk but not as much since the field is deeper. To sum it up, this week you will get a Keegan Bradley type player for 7300 at the open you will get a Kaymer type player for 7300. Personally I would choose the open if me as the ownership will be spread a little more evenly.

Not bitching or complaining one bit, don’t get me wrong, just trying to figure out

The post mortum is what most of us forget to do. I agree with everything you said. Maybe a few of us would like to do a post mortum on the guys we choose why they did or did not do well. What we thought or didnt think in our preperation. I think things can be learned and applied and I think that many would find this just a stinking waste of time. We all would be right.

Yep these contests are horseshit, what’s wrong with the $3 Birdie or the $4 DTG. These higher prices contests are only for big spenders, they are eliminating the little guy from having a shot at a decent payout

Yea upset they are limiting the $3/4 GPP to 20 max but added a $8 150 limit. I like playing 40-50 entries

  • jstevens2k11

Lol so I’m an idiot but not the worst problem to have. The Thunderdome ticket I won is only redeemable for 6/15, looks like I’ll be using it at the next major!

I realize anyone can make stats look any way you want them to look, but dang, it’s hard to come up with Si Woo other than a PIG contest. JMHO

    GIR – 201st
    Scoring Avg.- 198th
    Fairway Proximity – 198th
    Par 5 scoring – 187th
    Approaches from 175-200 yards 201ST
    Approaches from 150-175 yards 205TH

He’s been hurt all year, wrist and back.

Have you actually watched him golf? Did you see his win at Wyndham?

Those stats are skewed by a player who hasn’t been right all year. He’s a massive talent.

I agree with this in general, but I feel like this past week is a total outlier. To look back at it and say I should have played a bunch of guys in the 7-8k range over the top 10 guys……
Someone mention having the trifecta of course history, recent form, as well as stats as indicators – that works on most weeks but Fowler ticked all 3 three of those boxes and was outplayed by a guy who ticked 0 of those boxes.
So how we look back and judge that?
Guess my point is – I’m still picking Rickie over Si Woo, Poulter, RCB, etc.

    Nice ship!

    What satellite did you win?

Personally I would wait until The United States Open to use it. Will be more golfers to choose from that aren’t all mega chalk, and will require more skill rather than luck to create a winning lineup.

There is a lot in that statement. 1. How would you watch him ? You may get bits and pieces, but I have not seen him. You would really need to be dialed into the PGA personally or have a friend to know “massive talent” as his one win could be looked at as…. He did spend his time on the web, although I did not admittedly know he was only 21 (mistake on my part) I usually pull that on the espn pages and theirs has been blank on some people.
Even then… with 2 injuries -4 WD;‘s and so many MC’s it is no wonder he wasnt in the top scoring.. .Glad he won, I really am glad for all… Just impossible to pick unless we get SOME KIND OF OFFICIAL INJURY NEWS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! +12966684 by the PGA God dammit !

Not sure if this has been shared yet but the PGA Tour app for iOS is great for looking at the course being played for the week. It gives the yardages for each hole as well as the Google Earth layout of the course. Go to Schedule/Tickets>Course (at the bottom). Real solid. Looks like distance should give guys a really good advantage this week.

    Euro Tour guys..

How do yall scope out the course? Didn’t know is there was a website that breaks down the Euro Tour courses with what players need to well, like driving accuracy or putting etc..

Also want to say that this forum is really a great tool. With the caliber of players that comment on here, we all can learn from each other. Good Luck to everyone this week.

All I was saying was as Cooper eluded to, stats are one thing but the eyeball test is another. I’ve followed the kid for a year, I watched him win at Wyndham.
Yes PGA is very difficult to gauge as far as injuries. You have to dig for info and then speculate.
I took 68th in the dogleg with a si Woo lineup being weighed down by Westwood. Had I just picked anyone besides Lee, I had a real shot at winning.
Figure out your go to guys and your gut plays then play them. Stats only are stats.

Just a little tidbit for the week. Top 60 in the world at end of this tourney auto qualify for the US Open. You may want to take a look at the players ranked 40-80 in the world who will need there ranking to qualify.
