    Course Notes:

TPC Craig Ranch, par 72, 7,468 yards. Designed by Tom Weiskopf and completed in 2004, the course has hosted events on the Korn Ferry Tour along with Korn Ferry Tour Qualifying School. This is the first time TPC Craig Ranch has hosted a PGA TOUR event. The move to TPC Craig Ranch, which is located in McKinney, Texas, comes after two years at Trinity Forest – an ambitious design by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw. TPC Craig Ranch will host the Bryon Nelson for the next five years. It features Zoysia fairways and bentgrass greens, and Rowlett Creek crosses the course 14 times.

    Story Lines:

Dallas native and Special Temporary Member Will Zalatoris, runner-up at the Masters, will be aiming for his first PGA TOUR win. He first played Byron Nelson as a pro in 2018; he played in 2016 as a teenage amateur. Zalatoris missed the cut at the Wells Fargo Championship, his first early exit since November… While TPC Craig Ranch is new for the tournament, it’s not for the defending champion. Sung Kang is a member of the club and looks to become the first since Tom Watson to defend his Byron Nelson title. Watson won three years in a row… World No. 1 Dustin Johnson is looking to break out of a lull with the PGA Championship around the corner. He hasn’t notched a top-10 finish on TOUR since February. This is Johnson’s first start at the Byron Nelson since 2017.

I imagine Spieth will be priced up there with the big dogs this week?

Also, reading that this is Sung Kang’s home course, might steer one to like him this week. I can see that…. but I also can see where it’s a detriment. Take Mr. Varner’s results at Wells Fargo. My tour that I play on came to my hometown last weekend at my home course. I felt it was my tourney to lose but OMG, the pressure. I haven’t felt that nervous on the course in years. Needless to say I didn’t fare well. But I digress.

Lot’s of Dallas guys in the field this week.

    Zalatoris
    Bryson
    Spieth
    Scheffler
    Kang

I would imagine the winning score is going to be -25 to -28 this week. Winds are going to be light on Thursday and Friday, plus we are forecasted to get 2-3” of rain over Monday and Tuesday. The course should be primed to be destroyed by these golfers.

    Aaron Wise winning this week

Quite a few PGA veterans in the Monday Qualifier today.

Chase Koepka is in the field, if he makes it through qualifying, he played TPC Craig Ranch in the KFT Q-School.

Nice to get back to a (likely) birdie fest after a couple of weeks at tougher courses. As much as I enjoy watching the tougher courses as a fan, for DFS I much prefer the birdie fests as I find it easier to get things right.

Its a new course on tour, are we sure it is a birdie fest?
I realize they held the KFT there once but I can’t find the scores from that

-16 won the 2012 KFT. It was played in late October. Winds were moderate Thursday, high Friday, and mild on the weekend.

At least we won’t have to worry too much about the weather angle. (For now…)

Yes we are sure. There’s no doubt this will be a birdie fest. Almost as sure as my lineup with get 3 of my 6 golfers through to the weekend.

30 year old John Catlin who hasn’t played a PGA Tour event since 2019 is in the field. In the interim he’s become a bit of a star on the European Tour winning 3 times in the past year.
Must check with our resident European lfn1992 for details on his chances. I’m sure he’ll be cheap and low owned (but maybe for good reason)

Has this Weiskopf dude even designed any other courses ever played on the PGA Tour?

    Pricing is out and looks….interesting.

Olympic Club in Frisco where Morikawa won the US Open..

  • hbomb57

Koepka 9900, if he was 7900 I would not play him. This week is just a warm up get in game shape before PGA.

With really 4 really short par 5’s (assuming they all stay part 5’s) and potentially 2 drivable par 4’s (360 yards and 330 yards per the scorecard) I expect scores to be fairly low here. Plus the first year of a brand new course they usually set it up fairly getable so guys want to come back next year.

So, sounds like only about two in that article and they were co-designs or renovations. His wiki page doesn’t even list those two, I don’t think. Looks like Olympic Club is the the only true one, like hbomb mentioned:

Biggest thing jumping out at me is that some of the guys who did well at WF (or other recent events) seem to have gotten a larger-than-normal price boost for recent form, quite possibly due to lack of CH in the algo.

Sung Kang is going to be bad chalk at $6500 it feels like. Defending champ and home course narrative makes me think lots of people will go there in their dumpster dives.

  • timusbr

The Happy meal is up. some delay to the Cup standings this week, will get back to you on that.

I got the vaccine, no lines (2 people in front of me). I went shopping at the Jewel (robertsons), walked by the pharmacy and filled out the sheet, got stuck (J&J only need 1 shot) in 10 minutes.

I totally agree with him being highly owned but not necessarily with him being “bad” chalk. Nor do I believe he’s a “free square”. Home course hero is real but pitiful 2021 form is just as real. That is the conundrum.

I have some sticker shock, but we’re all facing the same field and pricing.
