      2016 DraftKings FGWC Finalist

Did ok in baseball last year, but the model I used for myself was crap and I just did a ton of manual work each day? Some things got posted at various times during the year – but nothing I saved. Does anyone have a decent MLB model/Spreadsheet set that they would be willing to let me use as a basis of recreating a better model for 2017. Hit me up.

Looks like Fangraphs is the way to go. How do you go about pulling the data into the Excel file? Do you have to export the CSV each day? I’ve been trying to make the Splits page show all pages via the URL (I could do it with the non-splits leaderboard) to do a web query, but I’m not having any luck.

  • Jvanspro

I use google sheets importhtml. You have to code it to change the date though. I then run an excel query to pull the data from google sheets.

I’m intrigued by those sheets, nice work Jvanspro!

do you use certain parameters for your searches that give you valid results? I’ll work with it more this year but I had no idea how to set parameters for usable info.

I transitioned away from the popular advanced stats that you see on fangraphs like WOBA and SIERA and towards statcast data towards the end of summer. I’m so pissed I didn’t do so sooner. My results sky rocketed.

While those stats have some predictive tendencies, they’re nothing like using statcast data like exit velo, launch angle, spin rate, etc. That data is so freaking useful, I wish it wasn’t free for all! Lol.

But to answer your question, I used spin rates only for fastballs and curveballs. I like to use a pitcher’s results from the last 2 weeks. That gave me solid data to work with. Really helped solidify picks that people were hesitant to use either because their numbers weren’t that solid or they were struggling mightily.

    Can’t wait!!!!

I had the same result. Within the last 5 or so weeks I won 3 low limit single entry tourneys and 2 3-max. I also placed higher in the money more often.

Thanks, I’ve started playing with that and it seems to work well. Is there a way to force the FG ID number into the report (like it appears automatically in the CSV)? I have a map of names used by each site so I could probably get by without, but a nice, static ID# would be nice.

Does anyone use minitab? I just learned it for my job and was wondering if it would work for DFS.

Fangraphs to pull the advanced data, but where is the best place to pull info for park factors, weather/wind?

its not rocket science..dont knock yourself out…for SP look for a K guy in a pitchers ballpark, vs a shitty team..then add 2, 2 player stacks from guys near top or middle of lineup vs a shitty SP in a hitters ballpark!

Where do you import your daily batting orders and pitchers from? This is the hardest piece of the puzzle for me right now?

I get the daily sp from fangraphs. I don’t get the batting orders, I usually look at that manually as they come out. My sheet is an analytics sheet, no projections only statistical numbers and match-ups. I do my initial research by ranking players at each position that I like. I make adjustments as the lineups come out. The lineups are predictable for the most part though.

Jvans, I just went into my sheet from LY and noticed I’m getting an error when trying to import. I changed the Table # and everything. Did you experience anything similar this year?

  • Jvanspro

I did with probables but it’s working now. You need to set your table to 0 not 1

Can you link the FanGraphs probable pitchers? I used it last year but I can’t find it now

Thanks. I was identifying the table with the capture extension in Chrome which was suggesting table 23.

Have you had any success importing any statcast data?

I don’t see it on the main page. If you had a custom report last season just change the date

    Haven’t tried yet.

  • Akfour7

Anyone know how to pull data from fangraphs split leaderboard? I can pull data from everywhere else, but am struggling to importhtml from there

  • Jvanspro

It should be the same as any other imports from fangraphs. FYI it’s much easier if you create your own custom leaderboards. The way you don’t have to import multiple pages.
