    Hi All –

Last season i used a data source for starting pitchers for that day and lineups that i could easily refresh daily via excel web query; however, My player data i had to manually go in and extract each day and copy and paste into my range. Is there a good table style data source that could be used for refreshing/optimum automation? I’m trying to make it as easy and having a macro and hitting refresh each day but am struggling to find a database that has the metrics i am looking for AND that has this capability.

    Thanks!

    Chris

There are lots of good baseball data sources (i.e., https://www.baseball-reference.com) but not all of them work well with Excel web query. If you’re willing to use a scripting language instead (Python is a good choice), I would start there. If you are looking for something specific to use within Excel, then we would need to know specifically what data you are looking for to recommend a source.

Fangraph Custom Leaderboards. Should give you the ability to pull up the pitchers for the day and save the stats you want to see. I use it for my pitching sheet and then have weights for different stats to spit me out rankings.

I’ve been reading about batted ball distance. Whats the best way to use this stat. and where can I find it?

Baseball Savant. It’s generally used to tell whether power is real or not. For example, if a guy hits more HRs one year, but his batted ball distance doesn’t increase.
