Just opened the $1 Happy Meal this week. A star-studded field in Newcastle including Sergio, Rory, defending champ Noren, and tons more. I’ll also be opening up a PIG as well as soon as I come to some conclusion on min salary.

  • timusbr

I think you keep going too hi (# of contestants) in the league contests. I would have worried with 20

    for a PIG I would use 46K or 47K
I usually look at highest salary and 5 minimums and see how much is left… then fudge it. This tourney has 2 high salaries and a ton of low salaries. It would be difficult to make a PIG with full amount of salary.

It took me about 17 seconds to come up with a cash LU for this week, so I am supposing that either my LU will be chalk or hoping that enough people unfamiliar with Euro Tour show up this week

I apologize for this…I thought I was on PM. You had done a great job of increasing the contest size. I never was bold enough and didnt do as well as you have.

Thanks. I think a lot of the sizing depends on the star power. When Rory and the big guns come in you can make it bigger, when it’s “The Portugal Open Starring George Coetzee” a much harder sell, at least that’s my theory.

The golf grind is real as these contests are filling like hot cakes

  • lfn1992

PIG has been created! Must use $47.5K salary. I like those higher min salaries for this contest.

  • lfn1992

On this course, driving accuracy is a must!

Happily donated my $1. Figures the one guy I actually saw for 1 hole on tv this weekend whose name reminded me of bier garden just won. Didn’t pick him because of that.

Here’s what I see when looking over the landscape of this course.

Newcastle-upon-Tyne is on the East Coast area of Northern England but the course is not strictly a links-style, windfest of a course. Lee Westwood designed the course, his only designed course, back in 2011 and has never hosted an event like this before, so CH is pretty much out in terms of consideration.

Weather so far doesn’t seem to favor one tee time or another, although this is England so 40 degrees and rain is always a possibility. Overall it seems a bit unseasonably warm for this time of year (60’s) so guys like Sergio might not see too much of an adjustment from the PGA championship to here.

The theme of the Colt Course is ‘Old English’, with highlights including the ancient forest to the left of the first hole, the old Roman fort to the left of the 11th hole, the lake by the 15th tees, and the Ha-Ha wall and Ice-Lake on the final hole. From the tweet above, there are definitely elements from The Open/links-style that the pros will have to handle.

It seems like this may be a low-DK scoring course (fewer birdies) based on similar other courses, so to me, bogey avoidance will be a major stat and chasing the U70 bonus might not be a good idea. I’ve also said drive accuracy seems vital because Olde English courses like this are narrow fairways and punish you for low accuracy – plus the overall course is quite short with only 2 Par 5s, one of which only totals 497 yards.

Par 4 scoring, bogey avoidance, drive accuracy seem to be the way to look from my eyes.

EURO stats are pretty basic but here’s the “big 7” categories:

    http://www.europeantour.com/europeantour/stats/season=2017/categoryid=2/index.html

Accuracy/GIR for driving, sand saves/scrambling for around the green, etc.

Gotcha, saw that earlier. Was wondering if there was anything better. Thanks.
