      2013 FanDuel WFFC Finalist

I’ve noticed both FanDuel and DraftKings bumping up their rake for certain leagues. It’s happening even in qualifiers where contestants would be double raked if they won their Q. Can one of the programming geniuses here at RG make a tool/browser extension that will easily clarify what rake equals for each specific game? It can be a color-coded system that breaks up rake into multiple categories (green-6-9%, yellow 10-12%, red 13=+%). This industry is going from bad to worse by the minute for the player. Only way to fight this is to be better consumers and to be more informed on where our $$ is going. It’s becoming ridiculous on how high some of these raked contests are getting. Only one winner in the long run if they keep squeezing us this badly….

Anything 11%+ is a joke. 13%+ is appalling. Not even chasing Q’s on FD at their current rake.

I agree, but it’s about to fill several hours before game time yet again. I can’t even calculate the rake because FD no longer lists a numerical value on their Qualifiers.

Yeah I used FDP on it. Probably should get out of it but we’ll see. The total prizes are 14k EV of the final, 4k for travel/expenses, and 6k runner up prizes.

I knew the value of first place, but wasn’t in the mood to add up all the other numbers. However, I see that once you go to ‘edit’ your team, it shows the runner up prizes totaling $6k. Regardless, I’d appreciate a little more transparency.

  • JBigg23

I’m not sure which qual you guys are referencing, but for the $535 #6:

    Total Prizes = $18K (1st) + $6 = $24K total purse prize

    Total Entry Fees = $29,425 ($535 × 55)

    Total Rake = $5,425 or 22.6%

The fact that they value first prize $18K and you don’t BE with $4K travel unless you get top 9 is another story.

The fact that they value first prize $18K and you don’t BE with $4K travel unless you get top 9 is another story.

For the record, we were referring to the $25 Q:

    Total Prizes=$18k(1st) +$6k=$24k

    Total Entry Fees=$29,750

    Rake=$5750; 19.33%

In your example, rake is dividing the actual rake(5425) by the total entry fees(29,425). In this case, it would be 18.44%. Regardless, those numbers are too high. Unfortunately, there’s absolutely no incentive for FD(or DK) to lower the rake if the leagues keep filling.

  • emoney1214

I’ll throw a bullet in the $25, but it looks like the high multi entry players are the ones really filling it up. It’s kind of puzzling the people with such big bankrolls are throwing money at a game with such a high rake.

  • commandercoo1

I’d donate to said project. It’d likely pay off the first day I played.

The rake will continue to go up until the players decide otherwise. If we don’t stand up soon it will be too late. This industry is still in it’s infancy. We can’t wait 5 years and then try to change it. It has to be done now.

The takeout (aka rake) in horse racing for many wagers is at 23-25% and in PA I think it’s as high as 30%. Horse players have parades when they’re offered a pick 5 with only 14 or 15% takeout.

That will be DFS soon enough. There is absolutely no question about it.

All players need to be educated and the big players at the forefront need to lead the way. I always hear how they want what’s best for the industry. Well, show me/us then.

  • mke272

Can someone from RotoGrinders comment if they will be adding this to their browser tool? It’s frustrating to see the sites regularly changing the rake. This change to the tool they already have would solve the problem of not knowing what you are paying.

Hey guys I threw together a browser extension really quickly.. it does the coloring and calculating as expected but, it its a constant battle to keep up with FDs live lobby js so im not sure the best course there…for now you just have to click the button all the fucking time. Also if there are tickets involved, i ignored the contest. Have fun!

    https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/fanduel-rake-colorator/kbijdnibiddienolcibbpfodndekemdg

if you have any issues or feedback the webstore feedback option should get right to me…or here.

RG Admin NoteThanks to @dfskehd for this! Please note that browser extensions can sometimes be used for malicious purposes (like phishing for your login credentials or auto-entering contests for you), so as is always the case with things like this, it’s important that you trust trust the source it is coming from.

Even though we are leaving the link to this extension available, RotoGrinders does not vouch for its development or security, and you take full responsibility for any losses or damages incurred through the use of this extension. We may add these features to our existing FD extension in the future for anyone who might feel more comfortable downloading an RG-approved extension.

I’d love to see one that shows the actual % of each game next to the game name, great start Dfskehd!

  • dfskehd

the percentage is on the right but often gets removed by FDs js. I can move it to the left.

Nobody endorses my extension. this is a useful tool (though ugly in implementation) and I hope it won’t get challenged or taken down without a suitable replacement. if you have any issues or feedback the webstore feedback option should get right to me…or here.

dfskehd – good start. I noticed that the extension only works on some of the contests. Can you comment on why?

edit – actually sorry I basically have to click on the button to “refresh” what I am seeing in the lobby?

  • dfskehd

    https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/fanduel-rake-colorator/kbijdnibiddienolcibbpfodndekemdg

edit – yeah you have to refresh it way too much. easy solution might be a keyboard shortcut for now.

    edit2 – i think i mostly followed OPs color suggestions. Currently it’s: 3 < green >= 9; 9 < yellow >= 12; 12 < red > 25

edit3 – Alright its saturday night so im done messing with it for now, but there is a new verison on the web store that autorefreshes every second to deal with scrolling and new contests being added. for now i moved the percentage to the left, on a row above the contest it refers to. this is not ideal, but it eliminates the page jumping from FDs live updating. Tomorrow ill add ticket value calculation. Also you’ll need to close the tab to get it to stop calculating, refreshing no longer stops the extension.

  • TwoSHAE

I wouldn’t be surprised if the “big players” who have been playing high volume since the beginning have some sort of under the table rakeback.

  • dfskehd

Okay, updated version on the webstore parses the ticket value if present in the lobby row for the contest. Still says N/A if prize pool value is not shown.

Groceries and electricity also cost more than they did before for the same reasons. It’s as simple as some people have mentioned. If you don’t like the rake in a certain contest, vote with your wallet and don’t play in those contests. If when people want the answer to be, “But I REALLY want to play that contest and the sites should tailor it to me and my likes/dislikes” that’s where it starts to get funny (at least to me.
