I know Dk and FD have dropped NCAA games, where is everyone playing CBB this season? Looked into Fanpicks but the site looks cheap and their game slate is pathetic with over 40 teams to chose from, most of which aren’t in the power 5 conferences.

Hey winsome thanks for the input and we have correct the issue with the pricing model. As far as rake goes if you are suggesting the 10% is standard I will completely disagree and suggest you have a look at other sites. As far as contest sizes goes I agree we certainly are smaller than our competition but are growing weekly and plan to continue to do so. Our handled has gone up weekly and as it does I continue to create larger guaranteed contests.I have heard several people say you need to spend money to make money but I can not and will not offer guaranteed games I do not feel we will fill by at least 85% it is just not financially sound. An upside to our smaller contests the recreational player actually has a chance of cashing. Sure is it nice to have a chance at a million dollars? Sure it is but traditionally the same 10% of players from the big boys are the only ones cashing so for the other 90% it could be 10 million as they never had a chance. Once again thank you very much for your input as it is appreciated and we are always trying to better ourselves.

Also guys please give me your thoughts on our DFS spin on the bracket challenge it goes a little something like this.

For March Madness this year Fanpicks has combined the best features of March Madness Brackets with Daily Fantasy Sports. Never before have you been able to legally wager money on the tournament. It works like this: Pick your roster of fantasy players in the first round of the tournament from any team. Players accumulate points as they perform in each game, and those players on advancing teams, continue to earn points as long as their team survives. Pick both your players and teams wisely as it takes the right combination of both to contribute to your winning tournament lineup. There’s no more exciting time in College Basketball than March and Fanpicks is the only place where you can get in the game!

So give me your comments questions or remarks.

    Thanks
    Scott

I know full well that rake can be higher than 10% at other sites. However that is for large tourney GPP fields where the possibility of hitting big is present and at the very least min cashing doubles your outlay. Keep in mind that all of those tournies started at 10% and as the customer base/prizes grew, so did the rake. 10% is absolutely standard industry wide on the type of games you offer. (Cash, 50/50’s and 3 thru 20 man) As far as I’ve seen you don’t offer any contest that would be recognized as a true “GPP” by the industry but I may have missed it/them. Charging 15% rake for multi entry (2) 50-50’s is absurd with a contest size of 8. (Quite frankly making them multi entry is even more absurd.) If you can’t get 6 unique users to join a $10 single entry you’re treading water in an eddy…

Why would a new user with limited funds play in your 15% rake contests? Why not multi enter one of your 10% contests? (Which for some reason are lower entry fees?) If I play a $10 50/50 I make $17 if I cash. However, I can enter the $5 twice and I make $18 ($9×2)You actually rake in the opposite direction of standard as usually the higher the buy in the lower the rake (once you hit a certain level).

It’s your site and you can stick to your guns however you wish. I’m simply offering some input since I’d like to play CBB. I’ll likely just wait for MLB to come back around.

  • Kingcheese

Winsome, i can agree with some of what your saying as far as a major league sport. Nba, mlb, nfl. You would rather play against sharks with 100 or more linups and pay a buck or two for a chance at 100k. Do they offer cbb? You have to understand when fd and dk came around there was only draftstreet and daily fantasy for cash was a new concept. The market was wide open, especially for fd to open up with deep pockets. Today the market is established and if fanpicks were to run huge contest that didnt fill they would do exactly what you described above as a slow death.

  • ScottatFanpicks

All of our 50/50 and H2H are at 10% an and always have been so not sure on issue there. And in my opinion rake should decrease as your volume grows not the other way around. So you’re handling more and you choose to charge more? This site is not for everyone but last I checked we are only DFS site offering both college sports and we have lots of clients happy to be playing. Once again thanks for your input.

  • winsome

A quick look at your lobby this morning showed multiple 50/50’s at various levels raked at 15% and they’ve been that way for at least a week or 2 since I started paying attention. You’re actually stating exactly what I was regarding rake decreasing yet your site shows differently.

  • ScottatFanpicks

Actually there were two that were set to 15% in error they have been corrected and will be 10% when they respawn . So other then those two if you would like to PM with the others with various levels of rake I’ll be happy to correct them.

  • winsome

It’s neither here nor there to me but like I said it’s been that way since I started paying attention (pretty sure it was more than 2 per day) and only you or someone who has been playing there for awhile knows how many contests were entered and paid out that way. I don’t even know how long you guys have been around but I noticed it right away and I’m sure other grinders have as well and it may be part of the reason for less than expected growth.

  • Kingcheese

Scott! Really excited for March madness! Great Idea!

  • ScottatFanpicks

    Thanks Cheese !

  • eforsty

The bracket challenge idea is very intriguing, definitely like the strategy aspect.

  • ScottatFanpicks

    glad you like it

Just out of curiosity, will you be offering refunds to everyone who has been raked an extra 5% on 50/50’s and H2H’s since you went live? 5% could be a lot of money for some of your regulars. And although you indicated otherwise, I see that 15% is your standard rake across the board (all sports) for H2H (save a couple of buyin levels). Why do you utilize such odd buyin levels instead of simply rounding to the 5? Certainly makes rake more difficult to calculate quickly…..

  • ScottatFanpicks

Obviously as you don’t play here you are some what confused. All of our user generated games are set to 15% as we have no way of setting them to individual contests type so I must set at 15%. If you took the time to actually look at the site you would see the difference between user created and system created. Once again appreciate your input.

  • winsome

No, I know the difference. Seems to me you simply don’t understand the meaning of the word “all”. I see you chose to ignore the refund question? If you have no way of manipulating your own contests it’s pretty obvious now that you’re just a dude who bought some software. Good luck with the NCAA buddy.

  • ScottatFanpicks

And obvious your a dude with an axe to grind so good luck with that.

  • winsome

Nah, no axe at all. Came in to ask some questions and you got defensive and/or ignored em so I dug a little deeper. Don’t be mad at me just because I highlighted your “inefficiencies”. If I had an axe to grind I wouldn’t be posting in this obscure of a forum.

  • ScottatFanpicks

I don’t forget boys we will be offering contests all away up till the NCAA Final Four ! We will be also offering our unique spin on the bracket challenge and plan on running starting with the conference championships so keep an eye out for it.

  • dailydimes

Sounds good Scott. I know you’ve mentioned some changes on the horizon, anyway to expedite the bulk lineup editor? I only play one lineup in multiple contests and having to manually edit each lineup is daunting so a fix anytime soon would be greatly appreciated.

  • ScottatFanpicks

Hey Dimes we are hoping to launch our new software in next few weeks and those issues will be resolved with it.

  • dailydimes

Damnit Kingcheese, another 1 point loss, same as Wednesday. I flipped Happ for Kuzma last minute and that screwed me. We really need more people in the $25 H2H, I’m tired of going up against you every night.

Keep it up though, you’re killing it.

  • Kingcheese

Dimes, I agree we need more players. I cant say enough good things about fanpicks and there steady improvements. I feel as though some people just can’t wrap there head around a site not being as big as FD or DK.

  • Kingcheese

Guys, looks like if you wanna play H2H you go to my contest and click on create contest (or just enter mine!). It’s pretty simple. Just wish you could create multiple price points at once.

  • dailydimes

Scott- Anyway to change the lobby layout? The contest name tab is too skinny to read anything the title, all you can read is CBB…, I can’t tell the yep of contest or whether a All, Eve, etc. I know it will take some getting used to but don’t see how this helped, aside for the lineup editor (thank you).

Also the game logs don’t show points scored or anything of any detail, it also leaves out all the January games. The old game logs were great in showing the details of their previous games.

  • ScottatFanpicks

Hey Dimes what type of device are you accessing the site? The player cards are a mess we are aware and hope to have them up to speed soon. Also where do you guys fall as far as H2Hs go would you prefer for us to create them or create your own?
