Ugh. Pricing seems really tight to me, and on a 4 game slate that means I’d normally decrease my volume to avoid flipping coin on a 1v1 or 2v2 situation. Here I sit, however, with a couple of blue chip tickets. Add to that the fact that I’m sure the Estela team will have 40 entries of the 125 cashes, and I’m a bit flustered. Anyone have thoughts on going with some ministacks versus a more team balanced lineup given the situation of being outclassed by the competition? Seems like a better approach for me than trying to out optimize the big boys. Appreciate any feedback.

On a 4 game slate with tight pricing I don’t think anyone has a huge edge. I bought two entries only because it’s the last big college basketball contest of the season. I’m liking going to take some chances and try to differentiate my lineups a little. I think that is the best way to give yourself a shot at the top 125. I can build a strong, balanced lineup that I like but I think I will share that lineup with many others or be playing a lot of 2 vs 2 and 1 vs 1 as you suggested.

Heck, on Saturday night with an 8 game slate in the March Mania on DK, my opponent and I matched 7 of 8 players (before I made a late swap to differentiate that ended up backfiring).

Wow, crazy to have that overlap on an 8 game! Yeah I have literally 0 experience playing in a GPP format paying top 20% the same, so it just feels entirely new as a strategic problem. I’m used to either aiming to beat average or going strong contrarian for a top finish possibility. Can’t say I’ve ever had to blend those styles, though I know I should get more into JMtoWin’s attitude of always finding floor + upside versus just chasing one or the other. Add to that that the competition is tougher than my usual. For example is Buddy a contrarian play in this tourney given the prohibitive price? I don’t think he would be that much in a lower buyin where people want to watch their stud no matter what even at 10,900! I wouldn’t expect many good players to touch the Plum here, making him super low owned, but he goes off so rarely here and there’s no upside to finishing top 1% over top 15%. I realize these are probably rudimentary issues for experienced players, but they’ve definitely been twirling around constantly in my head. I’ve actually had more fun thinking about this tiny slate in the last 2 days than most others this year, so I guess in that sense I’m getting my value!!! Good luck, Stew!

Buddy Hield will definitely be very low owned based on price and matchup (Texas A&M is slow pace and pretty solid defense). But if he goes for 50+, and one or two guys under $5k can get you 20-25, you would be in really good shape. I’m treating it more like a GPP than any type of survivor or cash game.

Just messing around I think I built one lineup with nobody over $8k and another one with 2 guys over $8k. Can’t say I really love either, haha. Good luck to you as well!

Its been an interesting couple days trying to build my lineups for Thursday. The Blue Chip is going to be interesting

Reading this from NY is so so sad. Right before the sweet 16 and MLB.

Wow Is it rough building a LU I like, wish all 8 games were played tomorrow. Atleast Newton put up that dud to bring his price down to 4,800. Only guy I really want to use under 5 k

Stew or anyone else…you probably know since i assume you survived on FD this far last year…what are we looking at(in your opinion) as a “cutline” for top 50 as far as score goes?? 175?? 200??

Every year is different in terms of how they cut this contest down. Also, every slate is different depending on pricing and just how many guys put up huge games. I’d say 220-225 is probably a good estimate.

But it also has a lot to do with how the multiple entry players approach their lineups. If the Estelas run 15-20 team or more trains again and put up 250, well now the cut line is 250. But if they do that and have a poor showing and put up 190, now the cutline is probably lower than my projection.

Don’t even get me started on the estela’s…You really don’t want to know my opinion on that.

Pricing is crazy tight on DK. Tough building a good roster. Guys like Benjamin and Thornton might be popular for salary relief.

Can someone fill me in on this “Estela” team? I play on FD specifically, so I’m assuming it’s a DK thing?

Nothing really earth shattering that we all don’t already know or wasn’t mostly mentioned in the first reply to this thread.

-They have too many entries in large contests like Survive the Madness. I can see the argument here for casual players but mentioned the contest would not be near as big without it. I had 20 entries myself so I do not know where the line is drawn.
-Him and his “brother” playing the same lineups and/or a lot or coordinated lineups (potentially exceeding the max entries allowed for one person in some contests)

The 2nd one is something I’ve definitely mentioned before as it pertains to things like the March Mania Q’s on DK and single entry double ups. I rarely play the latter but know others have brought it before and I agree with them. But it’s on the sites if they ever want to put stricter rules in place for “team” play/shared lineups. But that has been discussed too many times on these forums and happens in every sport. It’s something I’ve learned to live with.

Jonsousa- They play on both sites. I personally think they are better on DK but still very good on both. In the Fanduel Survive the Madness contest they have 62 of the remaining 304 entries.

Interesting. I’m still a CBB fish, so I guess I really haven’t noticed them too much due to lack of playing. That is insane to have that many of the remaining entries though.

Interesting situation I hadn’t considered is that if you make it through blue chip day one you’ll see everyone’s Friday plays from the survive the madness tourney with a two day slate. Different pricing of course but that data will be chock full of interesting potential ownership data and also meta game stuff. Hope I have a Reason to churn through it!

The Friday plays will not show up until their games start. They do the same thing for the Thursday NFL slates.

Right. You will only know the percentage owned of guys you roster for Friday.

oh so you won’t see the friday players in the survive the madness lineups today on FD? Didn’t realize that.

Right. But if for instance you took the highest priced guy tomorrow, George Niang, you can look at your roster tonight and will see his ownership percentage. But you would not be able to scroll through all the other lineups and see who has him and who doesn’t.

  • SeeRed4

I am feeling landon lucas as a sub 6K forward on FD. They will need his defense in the interior vs Stone/Turner and he has potential upside with blocks, off rebs, pts. Thoughts? He has been kind of KU’s x factor because before he started to play more they could get beat up inside.

I’m only planning on playing with the Blue Chip tickets I won (5), so I won’t be max entering or anything unless there is a large amount of overlay.
