EDIT: – I posted the deadline wrong for the 2nd set of games, those are due on March 7th at 5pm – that has been changed in the post. Also, I did not include the West Coast Conference in the first set of games. When looking through entries, I will contact anyone who hasn’t included the WCC to get that pick in.

With it being 4 days from March, and conference tournaments starting up, I really wanted to provide a “pre-tournament” sweat, and the guys who run the Jerome (@JeromeXV) have a great and simple conference tournament challenge they run. I wanted to do it for us DFS guys, and give all CBB fans a reason to tune into all of the conference tournament championships. We have a good number of us already interested and playing, I just wanted to post it here to capture any more players that might want to be in.

Basically, this is how it works.

There are 31 conference tournaments, and you need to pick the winner of each one by e-mailing me a list of your picks. The first picks are going to be due March 1st at 5pm EST and you will need to pick the winners of the America East, Atlantic Sun, Big South, Colonial Athletic, Horizon, Metro Atlantic, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Summit, and WCC conferences. The rest of the conference picks are due on March 7th at 5pm.

If your team makes the final of the conference tournament, you get 2 points. If your team wins the tournament, you get 3 points for a total of 5. There’s also a 2 point bonus if you pick a team who is seeded 3rd or worse in the conference tournament and plays less than 3 tournament games on its home court and wins the tournament.

(For conferences who seed with Divisions like the MAC, any team who didn’t win their division are eligible for the bonus).

The tiebreaker will be the total number of seed upsets in the Power 5 conference games (ACC, Big 10, Big 12, Pac-12, SEC).

Buy-in is $100, and I will be the escrow through PayPal, so when you submit your first entry, you will also need to send me the $100 through PayPal to lock in the entry.

I will be updating current entries and selections and scores through a Google Sheet once the first tournaments have locked.

My e-mail is varncass@gmail.com and it’s the same for my PayPal e-mail as well. When sending money, please send as friends and family and include your RG username in the memo!

Any questions, you can get me on twitter @Bronzesword or e-mail.

I guess I know what I will be doing Monday while at work…..

What are you thinking for payouts? Like winner take all? Or depending on entries?

Depends on entries, but if we get around 25, I would look at like 1000, 750, 500, 250 or something like that

Of course if everyone wanted to, we could go more top-heavy

This Pool was awesome last year, for those that weren’t in I definitely would consider it

Varncass, I would say spread it out a little more, I guess to me I would rather have like top 25% pay so im not out in 3 tournies if it goes poorly ha That’s just me I guess!

Now lets talk about this other pool Stew!

I don’t want to hijack this thread. This thread should be about people entering Varncass’ pool and asking any relevant questions. I will be making an early post about it likely next week. But if you search these forums or google “March Madness Knockout Pool + Rotogrinders,” you can find my thread from last year.

Personally, I think paying top 3-4 tops makes sense. Top 25% would be too much in my opinion. There’s 31 conference tournaments so it’s hard to be eliminated early. You also can see how you’re doing in the first set on tournaments and adjust your late picks (risky vs safe). Just my opinion.

I’m game. sending the money now

With the tie breaker being “the total number of seed upsets in the Power 5 conference games (ACC, Big 10, Big 12, Pac-12, SEC)”, does that mean we’ll be picking all the games in the power 5 conferences?

For the tiebreaker, it will be just a number of how many upsets, not all of the games individually.

Be sure to check the update in the top of the post – I will be sending out reminders to everyone that we need to pick the WCC champion as well before the 2nd cut.

Also, to avoid controversy as I’m going to be looking at a lot of the picks that are rolling in right now, (lots of chalk in the first round of picks so there’s an advantage to be gained by picking good contrarian options) I’ve PMed my list of picks to Stewburt who can verify them when I post all of the picks shortly after the deadline tomorrow. I haven’t looked at anyone’s picks at this point however will be doing it to make sure that everyone has their WCC picks are in. Since Stew’s picks are in as well, I figure this is the best way to avoid giving myself an unfair advantage.

Right now I believe I have 10 who have sent already, but around 25 have committed to playing, I would be surprised if it was under 25, probably looking between 25-30
