    Daniels/Finch out for CGY

Need to monitor Powell/Madu for OTT — Powell listed as RB1 but was banged up last game and could be a late scratch.

    First game for WPG

  • KindGuy

Will DK have a two game slate that only includes Friday night’s games?

Not a fan of slates that span multiple days………

Defense is a crapshoot based on getting any kick, punt, or defensive TD’s. But just based on implied team totals I would be targeting Edmonton followed by Calgary. But I would put in a cheap defense and build the rest of your lineup and then see which defense fits.

EDIT TO ADD: Winnipeg has a good matchup too as I do not think Saskatchewan has a very strong offense.

Powell is listed as RB1 but Madu will be starting. Got majority of reps in practice this week. If you have any questions, PM me.

CGY will be mega chalk this week. I wouldn’t be surprised to see McDaniel over 50% owned in GPPs.
I like WPG as a lower owned option. I also like going back to the well with some of last week’s disappointments – Bowman, Arceneaux, Carter, etc.

Hey Seth- I have BC/Tor at Tor -3 and the O/U at 50.5… is yours a typo or should I take BC and the over?

The line moved. It’s not a typo. It’s just not the most current line.

The total moved 5 points? Somebody pretty big has to have been found out to not be playing in between line opening and now, wanna throw me a bone with who this might be?

The current line is BC +3 and O/U 51. I accidently used the opening line from Westgate Las Vegas. I’ll fix that. I grabbed the line from VegasInsider.com but looked at the wrong column.

  • SwedishFishy

I think I have way too much WPG :-/ So many nightmares from Dressler/Ryan Smith stacking early last season!

    Hard fading TOR/Duke Williams/SSK

Not sure. The only name I can think of is Chris Williams, but I don’t think he was ever expected to play.

The line is back up to 52 now FWIW

Yeah, seems unlikely. Chris Williams is on the 6-week IR.

So, I’m not going to update my article but I’ve been searching all week for a cheap RB that I could recommend. Originally, I had Finch but he’s out. I almost recommended Perkins as well but he’s on the practice roster.

After thinking it over, I think that you can play Anthony Coombs at $3,900. This is definitely not a cash game play. It will give you an incredibly unique tournament lineup though with everyone else paying up at RB. Coombs caught all four of his targets last week for 21 yards. He’s listed at RB on DK but he actually starts at Slot Back as you can see on the depth chart here:

Also, after I posted this I just noticed Wilder is starting at RB ahead of Whitaker? I’m checking into this now

I confirmed Brandon Whitaker is indeed out. James Wilder Jr. will draw the start at RB. Almost all of Whitaker’s value was in catching passes. At one point last season James Wilder Jr. switched to LB to try to stick in the NFL.

He’s a bigger back (6’2, 232) that has been used in goal line packages. If you are looking for a cheap RB Wilder is $3,200 but the back you really want is Anthony Coombs. His target share is going to go up with Whitaker out. Keep in mind that Whitaker had 100 targets last season. This is a Toronto team that loves to check the ball down to backs.

Too bad the Calgary replacements aren’t in the player pool, or did I miss them? I bet one will have a great game…

Do you think that changes at all with Marc Trestman calling the plays? I watched the whole game in Week 1 and it seemed they were much more inclined to throw the ball down the field. I immediately regretted rostering Whitaker on some teams after watching the first quarter or two as they just did not seem to be using him the same way.

Granted at the NFL level, Matt Forte had two of his biggest pass catching seasons under Trestman. So maybe Week 1 was just an anomaly where Toronto could do what they wanted down the field and did not need to check it down. Dunno…

EDIT TO ADD: Whitaker also caught a lot of balls under Trestman in his previous CFL coaching stint at Montreal. So I’m leaning towards Week 1 being an outlier.

Have $6,300 to play with at RB. Would you roll with Madu Jr. on the Thursday game and eat the extra salary or roll with Sutton/wait to see the depth charts for the other later games? Using Winnipeg D so would prefer not to go with Marshall/Lafrance..

  • jtkucheck

Has anyone done a deep dive specific to CFL on performance of teams based on days rest or familiarity with opponent? It seems like it is far more common for these things to have the chance to occur in the CFL given their Thu-Sun schedule and the lack of total teams… I definitely can’t remember NFL teams playing each other in consecutive weeks during the season (although Week 17 followed by Wild Card game has caused this to happen).

For example- BC played on Sat night last week and is playing on Fri night this week, while their opponent played on Sunday (one less day of rest). Ottawa and Calgary just played each other, and one would think this would favor the defences a bit, unless they are both just bad on defence.

    Just thinking out loud…

I actually think that game was an anomaly. The main issue with Whitaker is that he tweaked his ankle in the first half. There were a total of 10 targets between Coombs and Whitaker. That’s out of 41 totals so almost 25%.

My only concern is the BC pass rush. There was a game similar to this last year and Coombs was hardly targeted at all because they asked him to chip block before running his route. That’s my main concern with Coombs.

In that situation I would personally use Sutton at $6100 as long as you love the rest of your team and there are no obvious upgrades
