If you live in Colorado and love to play DFS, then this thread is for you. There are other threads for other states, but my plan here is to get Coloradans to be proactive and let the Colorado Gaming Association know why DFS is great before the association discusses DFS and regulation in a meeting on October 22.

I have written a letter to Lois Rice. My main points are that I get many positive benefits out of playing DFS, I pay taxes on my DFS profits and spend nearly all of my income within the state, and that I would not drive to a casino to play DFS. Most importantly, I have stated that snap judgments shouldn’t be made as new developments are happening daily and you can’t believe everything you read. Finally, as a player I am requesting that we the players by allowed to continue playing DFS while this discussion continues. If you would like to read my exact letter before sending your own, please reach out and I will be glad to share it. Be positive!

The Denver Post article is here:
    http://www.denverpost.com/business/ci_28980903/colorado-casinos-call-regulation-fantasy-sports-leagues?source=infinite-up

10/20 update: An update has been posted to the CGA’s Facebook page that clarifies some statements from the Denver Post article. Here’s the link: https://www.facebook.com/cologaming

Thanks to everyone who contacted the CGA and had his/her voice heard. We’ll see what comes out of Thursday’s meeting and figure out how to proceed then. The big key is that we remain proactive. Here’s another bit of news I found on DFS in Colorado:

I just wanted to paste these points made in the pinned post about contacting your legislators. Great to keep these in mind. Thanks, everyone:

Been lurking for awhile on the forums, but as a former aide who has acted as the gate keeper for these things in the past wanted to toss in some advice. Three key things…
    1. Be polite. The quickest way to get your letter tossed or your call ignored is to be insulting and/or rude. Insults can and likely will hurt your case.
    2. Email is a step further than most people take, but an actual letter or phone call is even better.
    3. Point out something that benefits the state. Charity contests, offices in the state/city, etc. This is probably new turf to a lot of people. Other than the commercials and what they have seen in the press or heard from other constituents they might not know much if anything about DFS.
One last thing that I haven’t seen mentioned is don’t be afraid to stop by the office. While the chance of you getting a face to face are small, it does happen.

Contacted Condia and 1lucror as well. We need everyone in Colorado to band together and contact the appropriate people.

If we were forced in to a casino, I’d have to play you guys? No thanks, I don’t have the skills. I’ll be at the craps table.

Seriously, I will monitor this thread from the Springs and do my part.

Just submitted an email through the contact us page on the Colorado gaming website. I will be following this up with a call on Monday. If you haven’t already done so go here: http://www.coloradogaming.com/about-us/contact-us/ to make your voice heard.

Will have to submit something once my thoughts are together and my lineups are entered…will have to throw around the Blackhawk/Cripple Creek boycott if the game we love is limited, but really think they want their cut because the casinos aren’t making as much as they used to so they are following the money.

I have typed a letter and followed the format that I have seen on the forums from others.

Anyone ever want to get a beer and watch some games hit me up. Beer on me!

Umm, if Jbling was an aide, he should realize that Senators and representatives almost NEVER see their emails or mail. They are read by staff assistants that use a program that categorizes the email or call and then within reading the letter the staff assistant goes in and assigns every letter with that code a specific email or mail response without the Senator or Rep being made aware he received the contact attempt.

If this is a national topic that has piqued their interest and they are planning to discuss it this week, then it’s on their radar. When they suddenly get a flood of email, letters, and phone calls, I think it will make an impression. Besides this is the Gaming Association, not a Senator or Rep. Thanks to everyone who has made their voice heard. I mailed my letter today and will be following up with a phone call on Monday.

Lets get this issue subsided for Colorado! DFS has done many great things for many of us and we all end up paying state taxes on our winnings, something that seems to get lost in the “wanting a piece of the pie” debate.

Edit: Email submitted as of this morning.

  • FanFooBaa

Sent my email this morning, get as many CO residents as you can to email ASAP! Threaten and stand by a full boycott of all CO casinos if DFS is banned.

While I can appreciate your energy, I am not sure if threatening is going to get very far. I think that the facts and general respect will get us Coloradans further with this “battle”.

  • manBEAST

I also sent in my email this morning, threat or not I’m not going to Las Vegas anytime soon and will shoot it down as far as vacation destinations go, I think the same would go for the Colorado casinos if they push this.

    Hey guys,

I just got off the phone with Lois Rice and we had a very positive conversation. The CGA will discuss DFS on Thursday and she said it’s mainly to gather information. She said they aren’t looking to ban us from playing, just trying to get some clarity on the federal and state positions like everyone else. I actually have some hope that we’re heading in Kansas’ direction more so than in Nevada’s. She isn’t anti-DFS and it sounds like more than likely, their position will be no position. Basically, it doesn’t sounds like regulation is coming on Thursday (or even that the CGA has the authority to do what Nevada did). She said they have bigger fish to fry than DFS. Also, she mentioned she’s been receiving some mean tweets, so please refrain from sending any more negative comments the Colorado Gaming Association’s way. She was in the process of writing a letter to the Denver Post to clarify some of the comments posted in last week’s article. When someone sees an update, please post it here. Thanks, everyone!

thanks for the thread! I will do my part and keep active. If there is anything else I can do let me know. I’ll keep checking on this thread to see if there are any updates. It’s a fucking Joke that I can go to broadway or federal and legally buy pot but I may not be able to play fantasy sports

Don’t just stop at sending the letter, if your families know what DFS is, have them sign the petition and send letters about why it is good for the state to keep DFS. The only way we can help is by letting our voices be heard!

Never thought I would say this, but lets be like Kansas! I agree keep it civil no reason to go negative, I didn’t think the Denver Post article was the sky falling, but it seems like the snowball is getting bigger from all the negative press. This makes me feel better about our state and as RU18QY said I can’t see them giving us the ban with the way our laws are it would be some sort of joke…with election season next year I wonder if legality of pot and DFS will continue to be big issues. In my letter I said Coloradoans instead of Coloradans so not sure if thats up for debate as well. Long Live DFS!!!
