As a die hard/life long Kentucky fan, this is unbelievable news. The 2 of them have been playing together in summer pickup games in Lexington for years. They know each other very well. The Pelicans are certainly flipping the script and going in the opposite direction as the Warriors in building a team.

Surprised to see Barnes getting waived. He had a really hot stretch there recently. I’m sure someone will pick him up.

Did Barnes really get waived? I heard the rumor late last night, but then I saw no follow up on it at all, are the Kings afraid they might actually still win a few games or was Barnes purely on the team to try and control Boogie. I know that sounds strange but from everything I read was that Barnes was one of the most calming and best players in the locker room and one of the only players that would get in Boogie’s face and actually chew him out.

I heard that Barnes was waived on a radio show on SiriusXM NBA channel from about an hour ago. They were talking like it was already done and saying it had to be done to make room ( not sure if they meant roster spot room or salary room or what)

kings took too much from that rising stars game.

Wow, the Kings have definitely thrown out any chances they had of doing anything this year, slim as they were. Damn, Joerger is gonna get a complex, last year the Grizzlies set the record for most players being on a roster in a season in the NBA, Gasol and Conley went down with season ending injuries, then they traded away Courtney Lee and Jeff Green, even then they were competing and winning games and then Chalmers went down with an Achilles and that was the straw that finally broke the camel’s back. Now they trade away the franchise, for very little and then waive their seriously, probably 3rd/4th best player on the team.and this is after Rudy went down with a season ending injury.

Yeah I don’t get the Barnes waiving at all either especially since Casspi is no longer on the team. Seems like they would’ve waived one of the guards. I guess they must plan on playing Tyreke big minutes at SF but still Barnes would be a quality back up unless they want Hield playing some SF

After reading Vlade statement about “Winning begins with culture and character matters” i think he just got rid of Barnes because of all the negative news surrounding Barnes

I have to wonder about Joerger’s future in Sacramento, will they now dump him at the end of the season for not winning? I think the Kings management must have read the Philadelphia ‘Process’ stuff, except they already had a Joel Embiid big man in the building. If they are serious about rebuilding, you gotta believe they could have gotten more than Buddy Hield, why are they so enamored with Hield? He’s actually pretty old for a rookie, I heard he wasn’t really that good in college his first couple of years and that he got better when he had the age and experience edge in his later years in college.

I’m a Joerger fan and just hope they will give him an opportunity to develop whatever it is he is left with after all the smoke and debris have settled.

I wonder how he looks at Ty Lawson? He’s had issues in the past, he seems to be a great asset this year and he’s definitely run the 2nd unit well this year, he’s kept them in and brought them back in many a game they looked to be completely dead in.

Right, Lawson has been playing great this season with no “as much” negative media as his past lol, but i feel as tho his playing is the ONLY thing keeping him on the team. You know Matt Barnes and Boogie just got into some crap at that nightclub incident. But Barnes has had a lot of bad press this year. But with they way the Kings are just cutting all ties with ppl, I dont see Ty Lawson future there toooo promising.

i see hield as another wes matthews, at best. i don’t think hes that great of a piece. starting SG calibur but deff not a 1 or 2 scoring option on a team. i think the kings did the right move they were going no where with boogie. time to rebuild. get some draft picks and draft some young kids and go from there like philly or minnesota.

So if I’m reading the DK rules right, Boogie will accrue points Thursday even though he’s still listed on the Kings. How would that affect the late slate (assuming they have one) that starts at 9:30 CST when the game he’s actually playing in will start at 7 CST?

Collison had legal troubles, too. I think a lot of Boogie’s lack of growth is they’ve never surrounded him with positive role models. I know that’s super lame and it shouldn’t take that, but they never put any Paul Pierce type guys around him who, though they are old and can’t do it now, he could look at old film and be like, “wow, this guy was good, and he’s not an idiot.. maybe I should listen?”

Not sure how NO is going to work. I get the vibe that Jrue and Brow are good guys and all, but I don’t see them as being the vocal leaders who can tell Boogie to sit down and shut up and have him actually listen. Perhaps those people don’t actually exist, but I always wonder what would happen if Boogie ended up somewhere like San Antonio. Granted, they would never put a guy like that on their roster, but I can’t imagine Pop would take two seconds of Boogie’s crap.

You’re reading it wrong. The trade involved 2 teams that are on the Thursday slate. So the players traded will accrue points with their new teams. Boogie is already listed as a member of New Orleans on DK’s Thursday slate.

Yep, I just downloaded a new csv salary file and all the Kings/Pels involved are listed on their correct teams, plus there were a few avg’s that changed from one file to the next, at first I figured the avg changes might have been the players that played in the two games last Thursday, but after looking at them, I really don’t know why those changed, example Harden avg in the first pre-trade csv file was 60.918, the file I downloaded today had his avg as 60.517 … I guess some have been updated for some reason, that was a bit strange. It doesn’t matter, there may be more changes before Thursday’s games anyway.

When I originally posted my response, he was still shown on the Kings. Guess someone at DK finally figured out it would kill the late slate.

And another thing, was Omri Casspi really the deal breaker?
I will give you this Ferrari for 3 Toyota Corollas……hmmmmm….throw in that half empty can of grape soda and you have a deal.

Pretty sure Terrence Jones will be dealt for grape soda now, too.

  • JSteele

Vlade said he had a better offer that he turned down a few days ago before making this deal. His reasoning was that Boogie would lose value if he waited too long. 2 days of no games was too long for him? He’s a terrible GM I bet he gets fired at the end of the season. They should replace him with Kobe just for fun

  • RWilder

    @rebkell said...

You sure? none of the players in the deal will even be eligible on DK, the entries have already been posted. I can see WCS having some value, but what else are you seeing. I don’t play FD, so maybe there will be some there.

On FD, they were all posted and you can play them for Thursday. My original 5 LUs had Davis in them, but after the trade, I swapped out Davis and upgraded at other positions, while taking value at other positions. Kings have to score and Pelicans have no guards.
