9/7/16 Update: DraftKings lineups can now calculate player exposure based on total entries or unique lineups, just like on FanDuel. It even works in the UK now! If you already have the DraftKings Chrome extension enabled, it should update automatically. If not you can reload the extension (see instructions below). Version 1.2 is the current DK Chrome version. The extensions are still going through the approval process for Firefox users.

    Hey everyone,

With football right around the corner, it’s a perfect time to check out some RotoGrinders tools called, “browser extensions.” Extensions are small pieces of software that you add to Chrome or Firefox. The extensions offered by RotoGrinders work on FanDuel and DraftKings. Here’s what they do:

    Margin & Overlay

The site margin extension calculates the dollar amount that the DFS site collects for running each contest, displayed as a percentage of entry fees.

The overlay feature displays the difference between the amount of buy-ins and the prize amount guaranteed by FanDuel or DraftKings. Overlay can be displayed as a dollar amount and/or a percentage.

These calculations are not available for contests that include ticket prizes, and overlay is only shown for the contests that are guaranteed to run.

    Player Exposure

On the ‘My Lineups’ page in DraftKings, and under the ‘Upcoming’ and ‘Live’ tabs in FanDuel, you can now see your ownership exposure to an individual player across all of your lineups.

For more details about installing the extensions and a demonstration of how they work, check out these short videos:

    FanDuel

    https://youtu.be/sZP_wR_lBaw

    DraftKings

    https://youtu.be/nI61EcMwrZ0

Any of these options can be enabled or disabled at any time by going to chrome://extensions and clicking on the ‘Options’ link underneath the ‘RotoGrinders – FanDuel Tools’ or ‘RotoGrinders – DraftKings Tools’ extension.

If you already have the ‘Rotogrinders – FanDuel Tools’ extensions enabled in Chrome, the latest version is 3.2 for FanDuel and 1.2 for DraftKings (as of 9/7/16). You can check what version you’re running by going to chrome://extensions. Click the ‘Reload’ button if you aren’t up-to-date and the extension should update with the new features.

The Firefox updates for DK is here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/rotogrinders-draftkings-tools/

If you have any questions or trouble, please let me know.

Can you be more specific about where this list of number came from? Are the buy-ins current (and changing as more people register) or do these buy-ins represent a full contest?

I just updated the original post to announce the latest DK enhancement, calculate player exposure by “total entries” or “unique lineups.” 3 other suggestions to comment on here:
    1) Color-coding of the badges could be done, but it seems like this is something DK should handle if it’s an issue for people to read. I’d definitely suggest sending DK a support ticket/feedback about it. Adding it to my list, but not my highest priority.
    2) Displaying total buy-ins for each lineup would be a great addition, but the user interface on DK is not very friendly in this area. I looked into this and had to click a lot of buttons just to see the entry fee for each contest. I have a few other items to work on and then I will look at this one further.
    3) Regarding how many entries opponents have in a contest: Ideally DK would replace the orange “M” after a username with the number of entries. I’m not sure what it would take to implement this, as space could be an issue, but I added the suggestion to my list.

    Thanks!

Thanks, catmando, I can explain. This is how the rake is calculated: 1-(prizePool/(entryFee*contestSize)))*100

This example is pretty old, and unfortunately, the GPP rake has gone up recently. Each contest is different, so one of the best things about this feature is that it lets you compare a bunch of contests all at once and shop around for the contests that best suit you.

  • catmando

yea i just noticed it was old..guess the rake goes about about 1 percent per year

To the #3 point, were you able to see how when you highlight your mouse over the “m” you can see the number of entries, so I know the data is there, but you can’t sort by it so the only way to look at entry numbers is to literally go through each of them one by one.

  • Laxisfun1

I am seeing that the overlay on the DK 1Million kickoff million for the Thursday-Mon slate says the overlay is 6 percent. Its not. Why are the numbers wrong. 196/235 is not 1.6%, why is this happening.

  • Laxisfun1

Now it says 0% and their are 35,000 spots open

When the number of entries times the buy-in exceeds the dollar amount in prizes awarded, then there is no longer any overlay. This happens in every contest before it fills (otherwise the site wouldn’t be making any money), and in the case of a really big contest with lots and lots of entries (100’s of thousands), it happens with thousands of seats still open and available.

  • Laxisfun1

Right but you are still getting extra value from those missing seats compared to a full contest. I guess you wouldn’t call it overlay but it is still advantageous for the player.

@golferdude31, I can probably add this to the next release.

  • catmando

since you showed how to calculate rake can you figure if there is added rake in events where satellites were won for entries? always seem satellites should be rake free or it means main contest is more rake than shown. if that makes sense

I sent an email to support & heard nothing back, so I’ll try here:
Part of my recent strategy has been to sectionalize a days games. I go to the main slate first, figure out which games out of that slate I want to use players from, then, on contests for the all day slate, focus on those same games I just got done with, using different combinations of players. What would be nice for me (personally) is if there was a function within the lineup builder that ‘saw’ lineups & ‘understood’ when certain ones were using combinations of players that are compatible lineups for other slates. This way, I could set my parameters, have lineup builder make 100 lineups for me (all unique) on the main slate, then checkmark 50 of them to be transferred/rewrote/renamed/howeveruwordit to then be sent to DK for the all day slate. It would seem an important function to me because, as is, I have to create 50 lineups for one slate, then switch slates, which kind of starts things over to a degree. If I wanted to be absolutely certain of having 100 unique lineups I’d have to…..I don’t even know…..pore over all of them i guess. A) Am I being clear/does this make sense? B) Could we expect this in the future or does it already exist somewhere, albeit perhaps on a different site? Thanks in advance

As long as the lineups you’ve created are valid for both slates, I think you can simply switch the slate selector and they’ll export correctly. If you’re still having trouble, let me know!

Thank you for this, love it

Would it be possible to create the same extension for YAHOO please?

  • smurg

Just a thought on additional features:

I would find it helpful for the extension to be able to calculate the maximum unique ownership in a given game (GPP, cash, or otherwise) and display it next to the overlay . So take the maximum multi-entry limit and divide by the total entries. When deciding between some 50/50 games, a single-entry 100-person game allows each player to submit only 1 maximum of the total lineups while a 5-entry limit 400-person game allows up to 1.25% of the total lineups per person. This can help decide between game types and avoid too much dilution from professionals entering max lineups.

I’m not sure if it’s feasible since the information isn’t readily available in the lobby and it would require you to open/grab data from each game lobby. If that’s the case, maybe display it inside each game lobby next to the entry limit since all the data would be available then.

Not sure if this exists but would love to see % of entrants paid out/% of entrants who win anything.
