    Crystal ball time

I don’t pick teams ….Team Pepsi – Team Coke ….Team Democrat – Team Republican …..Team FanDuel – Team DraftKings ….but I can’t imagine FanDuel retains their current position in the market 5 years from now. With all the new stuff coming aboard (Yahoo, ESPN, etc) in the near future, the site’s limitations will become more and more of a problem. And I know, I know ….“changes don’t happen over night”, and “I don’t think people understand what it takes to recode things” …but you can’t keep making excuses over large periods of time as to why your site and it’s technology is light years behind. FD is the ‘big dog’ in the market and you can’t even use their site to monitor live game activity? Well, I guess you can, but you can punch yourself in the face too, doesn’t make it a good idea. Takes 30 times longer to enter contests, no ‘in-the-lineup’ indicator in the player pool, no opponent SP information displayed, etc. Now, I’m an idiot, and FD could literally be rolling out monstrous upgrades tomorrow and I would have no idea. But if not, you can’t just keep stankin up the joint with a poor product and hope to retain status. The player volume and ‘brand value’ alone won’t be able to keep the ship afloat long-term.

Personally I like these two factors as it enables a bit of an edge over those who just blindly pick their players either on hunches, past practice, fan bias, or without even 5 minutes of research.

I agree it is a bit of an edge, but at the same time…I’m often busy and it would be really nice to have check marks rather me trying to have to check a web site, then open the ap and verify.

That’s my biggest complaint about FD MLB actually…starting indicators would be awesome.

Overall though I do think FD could make some nice changes…but I do prefer their interface for the most part.

We can nitpick on personal preferences, but overall, the technology is simply WAY behind. And they’re able to get away with it currently since they’re the big man on campus. In time, it will catch up to them and be big trouble IMO. I guess they could do an overhaul sometime soon, but these gripes are 2-3 years old and nearly zero progress has been made. If I had FD stock, I’d sell sell sell! :)

This makes no sense. How does confirmation that someone is in the starting line up diminish your “edge” over someone who is picking that player based on a hunch or favoritism? Wouldn’t you want to encourage them to make that pick by showing them the player is in that day? “No need to do research today, your favorite guys are all playing, full speed ahead!”

Never mind that I think that this is absolutely the WRONG way to gain an edge, that such reasoning is futile and short-sighted (we shouldn’t have convenient, well-designed, sensibly-formatted sites because they make it too easy? really?), and that your statement implies a level of contempt for the casual player that I find hard to stomach.

  • Heterodox

Its mechanics. If your edge comes from mechanics then you are not good, just like poker. There’s no analysis that goes into who is in the line up or who is facing Kershaw, it’s just a matter of convenience in not having to jump around between tabs. The information is all readily available and there’s no decision making involved beyond “is he playing today, yes or no”

Making a site easier to use and making the games more playable for the average person can only be good for encouraging more casual players to play.

IMO I think there niche is and will continue to be that DFS site which is most inviting to “new” dfs players…. Simple Layout, format, and scoring systems. This appeals most to the average “part-time” DFS player. Other sites with late swaps, require a bit more tentativeness.
As far as the FD scoring page, on the desktop…. Sucks. But, if you look at there mobile and/or Ipad app, its great. Almost like they are inviting you to stay logged in through your mobile device. Yahoo, I dont think is launching a Sal Cap related DFS site, word is there gonna be doing something along the lines of Snake Drafting or something of that nature. It would be way to big of a ladder to climb to compete with the likes of FD or DK at this point. Season Long Leagues will not vanish. Yahoo, CBS, and ESPN will always retain there elite places in those fields.

The more information available on the site itself, the smaller the edge for people who got the information somewhere else. How does that make no sense?

  • depalma13

If they put markers that showed who was playing and the person is a late scratch. They are going to get nothing but grief when it happens. The people claiming it is fixed will be out in full force the minute it does.

I personally love Fanduel’s setup and hope it doesn’t change. I really don’t like DK’s at all. Too much going on on their webpages. I like FD’s simplicity and the fact that they don’t just give you all the information. I enjoy putting in the work through various other websites to put my LU’s together. I totally prefer no late swap either as that would probably lead to me just screwing up my LU’s.

Honestly, I’m so tired of these FD v DK posts. Nobody forces you to play one site over the other. If you like how the other site does business more than the other than just go play over there. Some people like Chevy’s and some people like Honda’s. Drive what you like and don’t bitch about it if you like someone else’s better, sell yours and go get theirs. That simple.

I, too, hate smart business practices that undercut my ROI.

All I want is the “P” after pitchers and “DL”/“DTD” after some players separated into a column. Annoying to remove these individually every day. That’s really my only complaint (a very small complaint) about the site.

  • FrancisBooth

Lol at someone thinking there is no analysis involved with who is in the lineup. That might be the funniest comment ever posted here.

Call it what you will, but “bitching” often leads to change. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, etc. People may like both sites and want to see them evolve/improve. Some sites still don’t list the opposing pitcher’s handedness, the same for the hitters. This is a message board, and you don’t need to read the “bitching” threads if you don’t like them, but bitching about bitching is comical.

Would love to see ‘real time’ ownership percentages…it’s more new player friendly, and shows you’re technology relevant!

I second this. Hard to match up stats pulled from other sites to players when one is named Matt HarveyP and the other is Matt Harvey.

Use their new export player pool CSV and concate the first and last names

Now that I think about it (after 4 JCs), I’d love to see projected player points for the day…

if that happens I guarantee you it’s not because of DK or from failing to change itself into the same product as DK, it’ll be because people will prefer to deal with ESPN or Yahoo if/when they do decide to enter as competition. They’re not about to go bankrupt. Do you realize how silly easy it is for them to make money? It’s basically a software program that runs numbes and takes 15% of all the money that goes through them. Until people stop complaining and finally just play somewhere else, that’s not going to change.
