This is the one year anniversary of me rostering DA Points the week he won in Puerto Rico. I was on a lovely tropical island. It was the last night of the trip, and we’d moved from the house we’d been staying in to an oceanfront room at my favorite hotel. Just for one night. And I was making my teams from there. I could not get freaking D.A. Points out of my head. He was a fit. I was going 30%. There, in that room, I talked myself down from 30% D.A. to just a handful. After all, I was having to play the $33 Dogleg to get anything close to a meaningful top prize. I didn’t want to go all insane and use D.A. FREAKING POINTS. It was $33 times how many entries? Holy shit!

Anyway, I wish there had been a $5 GPP with a meaningful top prize that week. It only benefits the small guy. If I have $250 on the line, some DA at a coastal venue with a lesser field? Great! But if I have to enter 50 teams at $33 dollars? No way am I going any FREAKING D.A. MOTHERFREAKING POINTS! Lesbihonest here.

This is WAY better than what we get. I doubt they would even lose 1 entry without the 100k first prize. Who is so rich that they can’t even bothered to play for 25k 1st prize with a much more realistic chance at winning hundreds or thousands.

Thanks… just a follow up on that…. Personally I’d be a fan of a 20-max structure with this. I don’t mind doing $75-$100/Wk for just PGA. It’d be nice to know that just having one flyer lineup getting to the top 500 gets me to break even if I did 20 lineups, vs having to get one in the top 70 with the current payouts.

Turned out, that was my last time in that building probably. The oceanfront building got sold later that year and is going to be turned into condos. I’ll still go to the resort, but I’m grateful for the one last night in that beautiful room.

I don’t care what the payout structure is, I don’t think you can stay afloat finishing 2500th all the time. Believe me, I tried that for a long time. It’s better to have the lumps be larger if your money comes in lumps. And that’s what a GPP is.

The champagne has run out. I’ve switched to a bottled Hanalei IPA, which thankfully is available at my local megamart. Reminds me of a recent trip.

Last year, 6 of 16 #1 seeds in their group advanced to the next round. I wonder if it will be that way again, or we’ll get a chalk year…

  • Kjwhalen77

Sorry to hijack the thread into a discussion that’s been beaten down so much (prize structure). Was excited to see the new format to be able to play DFS golf on match play on DK, then just disappointed in the GPP offerings for my type of play.

Tiger needs to get a special exemption into this thing. I think I read the 1st alternate is J. Suri at 69th in the world. If we’re at that point, let’s just put Tiger into this thing.

  • lexmarke238

I’m not shooting down any discussion, the idea is valid. There’s merit in it for sure. But let’s get T. F. Woods into this event right now.

I doubt he’d want to play. Just finished up 4 tourneys in 5 weeks. He’d only have one week off for the Masters

If he was in position to do the Match Play, I doubt he plays the Valspar two weeks ago.

Well, if that’s what you think Tiger wants. I didn’t make any statements about whether it fits his needs, just stated my preference to extend the invite and see him play.

    T. Woods> J. Suri and $100,000 > $25,000. My thoughts on the subjects.

I don’t know what the majority likes in terms of prize structures, but I’d like this setup with the same prize pool for that $5, 400K pool, 95K entries (Holy rake!)

    1st $25K
    2nd $15K
    3rd $10K
    4th $7.5K
    5th $5K
    6th $4K
    7th $3K
    8th $2.5K
    9th $2K
    10th $1.6K
    11th $1.4K
    12th $1.2K
    13th $1K
    14th $850
    15th $750
    16th-25th $500
    26th-50th $350
    51st-75th $250
    76th-100th $200
    101st-250th $150
    251st-500th $100
    501st-750th $75
    751st-1000th $50 (Top 1% finish bracket, 10X return)
    1001-2500th $35
    2501st-5000th $25
    5001st-10000th $15
    10001st-12500th $10

Yep, this is exactly what I’d want… I’d actually play tournaments but the way it is now, I legit can’t play… oh well, should be a fun week regardless!

  • mabrla

I’d prefer a 200k to first with only the top 5000 cashing. Min cash at 3x the entry fee. 2nd place like 5k and move from there.

  • BIF

    DK got back to me

In the case of a Conceded Match, No Show or WD before any holes are played

    The winning player would receive
    Match Won +5 points
    Holes not played (18 * 1.6) + 28.8 points

    Total 33.8

No bonuses apply as no actual holes were won to collect 3 hole win streak bonus and Match must go 10 holes to receive the No Holes Lost bonus.

They’d lose a lot of entries. Believe me. I like PGA so I would play, but for example..I won’t play a NASCAR contest if there isn’t 100k up top. I’m sure there’s thousands of people lured in by the top prize. The people cognizant of the rake and structure are probably less than 15% of the people playing. Why take a shot if you can’t change your life with 100k? 25k isn’t big enough of a lure to get someone to play something they know they probably wont win, in a sport they don’t follow, with a lineup they’ll make with little knowledge…and if they get lucky they want a biggggg top prize.

  • mabrla

I dislike this match play thing so I’ll just be throwing one entry in the $5.00. (And yes I’d take the week off if the top prize wasn’t 100k) lol. Can’t wait til’ the masters!

Best game in the pit. Roll them bones.

  • astauty

so you have to win your group, that consists of 4 people in order to advance, so obviously you cannot play more than 1 person per group. wow this is a crap shoot.

Yep if you get all 6 golfers through to the final 16 you did amazing.

well you honestly can’t even look at pricing and roster construction till after tonight.

Do Ryder Cup guys have an advantage here? (Phil, Reed come to mind) because they’re used to match play like this a little more than others?

  • BrianVT

This will at least be a fun Excel drill to build these lineups.

Since the chances of 6/6 are so slim to begin with, I wonder if it’s worth having a couple lineups where you do have two guys from one group of 4? I guess you’d say just build the same lineup with those guys in there once each, but that might not work if you’re in a 20 max lineup, or you don’t plan to submit a sh*t-ton of lineups. Just wonder if there are thoughts on taking a risk of a known 5/6, if you’re having trouble between two guys.

  • bigez952

Does anyone know how the round of 16 works? Do they get reseeded based on who advanced or is the bracket set up in advance so you know where each group winner will end up? I am guessing I have a 1% shot of getting 6/6 group winners but ideally I still would like to try to avoid two of my selected golfers from facing each other in the round of 16 so in theory if I picked it perfect I would have the opportunity to have 4/4 in the final 4.
