    A couplet for the Desert…

So this week is a Pro-AM in a desert with rain
Absorbing 3 courses will drive you insane

To play the stadium first they say isn’t best
For only 2 of the top 20 started ’18 with this pest

But the rain on Thursday could soften this track
And if that happens, the boys will attack

It becomes a game of darts for guys of this skill
Just hit the fairway, then fire at will

For the greens will be receptive and generous they say
So it comes down to putting, I won’t start Cantlay

But then maybe approach is the one that gets honors
Well if that is the case, I’ll take Corey Conners

But after all my digging and getting the know
I am all in this week with that Texan named Beau

Good luck to everyone and may you all have many….

I guess I am rooting hard for Martin Piller. 0.5%, 0.7% in a few of my contests. Niemann is 45-50%! Kind of crazy high ownership on a bunch of guys (Sungjae Im 27%, Zach Johnson 34%, Cantlay 29%, etc.) in cash games.

I went with Rahm, Kizzire, Hossler, Kim, Cauley, and Piller this week. Rahm for OAD as the clear best choice even though I expect massive ownership for him. Any time someone is that far ahead of the others (except Rose) I will take a shot.

Hope I am not an enormous sucker for entering that no management fee contests on Y.

Swafford is 39.4%! Chez is 20%

Russ Knox hopefully makes this cut and goes low at 0.6%. Knox is the guy everyone overlooks.

  • MrSnuffleupagus

Need ZJ and Nieman to tank please 😀

why would that make you a sucker? One of the few good tournaments to play. I have 4 lineups in there.

    Conners 40.6
    Rahm 56.3

IM does not surprise me as he’s been solid so far this year and he crushed the Web.com last year.

Werenski is one of those guys who’s playing hot so far on the swing season and has some decent CH so fit the bill on the cheaper salary side for a lot of people.

Got to say I am most surprised by Niemann being the highest owned golfer this week. I get that his price has dropped, but he’s also coming in rusty not having played in HI and didn’t have the best results on the swing season. Also I had a lot of success targeting him on Bentgrass last year but not so much on other surfaces.

I faded Rahm and went pure balanced. I like the no-rake part of it but it did make me spend more than I wanted this week.

Ownership is pretty spread after the high owned guys. Maybe I was just dumpster diving as I have a few with 3 players less than 1%.

The one by Broadie is definitely the most influential. The sabermetrics approach applied to golf. And I saw a few articles that relate the psychological impact of the last few holes on a golfer’s performance, etc.

The shotlink data includes event level, course level, round level, and hole level among other data.
An example of one record of hole data is coordinates of where ball was hit, where ball ended up, from fairway or rough, calculated stokes gained/lost on that particular shot, time of stroke, etc.

I liked the one about putting for par versus putting for birdie, I read it about 3-4 years ago but it was interesting

I landed on Im because I was looking for a bunch of mid-salary guys instead of stars/scrubs, and he played last week in Hawai’i and did well.

I can add a story similar to this.. In Mexico at one of our cruise stops…. Mexican guy pulls me and my girlfriend to his store upstairs and asks if we want to buy Cuban cigars… I said sure, I’ll take a look.

He proceeds to pull out 3 different packs of “Cubans,” all in packs of 3. He has his calculator out and is showing me the first one is $225, next one like $190, other one like $177.

I laugh and said “nah I can’t do that” and start walking out

    He says: “Ok sir, $100?”

I say no, can’t do that and keep walking

I get to the door and hear “OK sir, $5 ?”

    LOL!!!!!

    Yup – total Mexico

A popular one here in shops is they say… “how much you pay ?” because all they want to know what your floor is and then they try to get you up a much as possible. I don’t buy any shit here besides beer and food but my wife usually buys a trinket or two each year but has zero negotiation skills so I’m left being the bad guy

Oh and I replied to your PM if you didn’t see it yet

    Niemann was almost free
    Im is usually somewhat popular
But WTF on Werenski, I landed on him a bit thinking he’d be 5-6%

I went and looked at the google doc, picked out a list of players who did well at this event and are in decent form. Ended up using Harris English as a salary saver. 11th last year, played well last week. Hasn’t missed a cut at this event, but also only played it once in the last 4 years, according to the doc.

I decided I did want to get up to CHIII. I was mostly balanced before that.
