Deutsche Bank – TPC Boston – Fed Ex Cup Playoffs

Final field list has 99 players – no Danny Willet
This is a cut event so low 70 & ties make it thru to the weekend

Last year a score +3 was needed to make the weekend.
74 players made it to the weekend.

    TPC Boston Par 36-35-71
3 par fives (2 on front nine – 1 on back nine #18)

Last year Rickie Fowler -15 won this event by one shot over Stenson -14 and was the only player to have All 4 Rounds Under 70. Five other players (Stenson, O’Hair, Jones, Berger and Swafford) all shot the 1st 3 rounds in the 60’s but blew the bonus in the Final Round. Only Stenson was close with a final round 70, the others shot between 73 and 76.

Stenson blew a 1 shot lead after 54 holes and still had that lead with 3 holes left but a Double Bogey on the par 3 16th after hitting it in the water gave Fowler a 2-shot swing and the lead by 1 after Rickie made par.

The 18th is a reachable par 5 at 530yds that could provide another exciting finish.

REMEMBER – this is a Friday to Monday event so no golf on Thursday and make sure you get you entries reserved as I’m sure most GPP’s in this event (the last one with a cut) will fill 12-24 hours before lock.

With 3 Par 5s on the course do you have a clue how the cut line ended up +3?

  • whodat2

    Hard as hell course!

  • QSchoolDropOut

Is Sean O’Hair a good play this week?

    Has he been trending?

What do you mean ? Most courses have 3 or 4 par fives (besides a few par 70 courses).

With only 98 players and 74 making the cut, that could skew your scoring expectations as a normal event is 70-77 players of 144-156 making the cut so we go from 45-50% making it to 75%. So instead of the 51st percentile getting cut it is now the 76th percentile approx resulting in a bigger spread between leaders and cut line.

This golf course has a few holes where there is trouble (marsh, bush, water) that give up doubles quite easily so that is part of the reason scoring was only so-so but Fowler did go -15.

Typical Gil Hanse re-design, lots of risk-reward holes with some real penal areas if you mis-fire; I love his courses. His greens have lots of run-off areas and mounds that can help/hurt shots and also gives players lots of options when chipping/pitching.

He did the re-model at Trump Doral as well used for the WGC event so that is an option for a course to draw some comparisons.

Before his 2nd place this week his last 4 events were a 22nd last week and 3 straight MC’s

Not sure if there is a trend there ? Before that he made 4/5 cuts with 18th his best finish in that stretch.

COURSE: TPC Boston, 7,297 yards, par 71. In the New England countryside about midway between Boston and Rhode Island, the original 2002 Arnold Palmer Design creation stood just five years before Gil Hanse and consultant Brad Faxon were brought in for a thorough remodel. Fairways and greens were regraded as Hanse/Faxon introduced “chocolate-drop” mounds and grass bunkers to give the course more of a regional feel. The Deutsche Bank Championship has been part of the Labor Day calendar since 2003, offering a traditional Monday finish to take advantage of the holiday.

I will be there on Sat.
DK offered me Monday tickets, but I start a new job the next day and figured I should just chill.
First time at a PGA event.
I wish I had some Who Shot The Couch pants to wear.

I imagine you had a pretty good week? If the H2H team you used to SPANK me with was your core… ouch!

I am not sure who I had against you – I had 5 separate lineups used in my H2Hs.
Two of them were 6/6, so I assume one of them was against you.
(I played more than 5 H2Hs, I just use 5 lineups spread across them)

But I don’t think those actually made up my core – my GPPs were pretty heavily exposed to Spieth/Stenson.

Didn’t take a beating this week like I did last week – but wasn’t great b/c of the Stenson exposure. .

Don’t know if I can play again after the Barclays.

Probably the sickest I have felt in a long time.

Tried something different this week, instead of entering a ton of lineups, I put in two different $1,000 lineups. The first was a $1,000 – 50/50 which I got first and scored 474.5 …. the other was a $1,000 – 80 person tournament – scored 387.5. Finished just outside the money, my team completely shit the bed today except Reed (also if Watson would have missed the cut would have also hit the money.

Here is what really sucks – I only Made 2 lineups with no overlap. I just entered them in the wrong tourneys. If I put my 50/50 lineup in the 80 person tourney I would have gotten first and won $20,000!!!! Damn this is a killer….

Alright @Jim K, I did not make the cool list either but finished in the money in the RG Pga league. Whew….

If that bothers you, avoid the stock market. :)

Congrats on what you did do though!
Pretty high risk of loss, so appreciate what you did get!
    Exclamation points!

I am in due to winning a qualifier… I wish they did it like online poker and I could just withdraw and use the money for more then one entry.

I want to – I really like the smaller crowds – but I am a little gunshy on that buyin after the total beating I took two weeks ago – I am probably priced out.
But good luck to you guys who are in it either buying in or tickets – I hope an RGer blows it up.

LOL it was my last dollar, and DK hadn’t fixed my deposit limit yet. It’s all good now.

  • smallANDflaccid

Just read the back of my ticket and it says “explosive devices” and “firearms” aren’t allowed.

I am sick and tired of these sporting events that I can’t bring my dynamite to.

I have had tickets before where their size never matched any PGA events, so I messaged them and asked if they could downsize it to something that would fit and I would just eat the difference – they instead converted it to cash in my account.

Granted, my ticket was only like $50, and I had originally purchased it out of the points account – not sure if that makes a difference – but may want to at least ask.
