Deutsche Bank – TPC Boston – Fed Ex Cup Playoffs

Final field list has 99 players – no Danny Willet
This is a cut event so low 70 & ties make it thru to the weekend

Last year a score +3 was needed to make the weekend.
74 players made it to the weekend.

    TPC Boston Par 36-35-71
3 par fives (2 on front nine – 1 on back nine #18)

Last year Rickie Fowler -15 won this event by one shot over Stenson -14 and was the only player to have All 4 Rounds Under 70. Five other players (Stenson, O’Hair, Jones, Berger and Swafford) all shot the 1st 3 rounds in the 60’s but blew the bonus in the Final Round. Only Stenson was close with a final round 70, the others shot between 73 and 76.

Stenson blew a 1 shot lead after 54 holes and still had that lead with 3 holes left but a Double Bogey on the par 3 16th after hitting it in the water gave Fowler a 2-shot swing and the lead by 1 after Rickie made par.

The 18th is a reachable par 5 at 530yds that could provide another exciting finish.

REMEMBER – this is a Friday to Monday event so no golf on Thursday and make sure you get you entries reserved as I’m sure most GPP’s in this event (the last one with a cut) will fill 12-24 hours before lock.

I only made 16 lineups this week.

    May put some more in.
    Good story.

That’s disappointing – thought there was a story behind the additional entries like some new algo with secret sauce

I’m employing the smallANDflaccid approach this week after my best golf weekend in 14 months, I’ll be doubling up and playing my most entries ever in GPP’s. Likely 50-60 in the Birdie (though some will be 2 LU Dupe trains) and 8-10 LU’s in the Dogleg along with the usual 40-50 H2H/3-man cash games.

Kevin Na has a tee time so whoever said last week that he had already pulled out of the Deutsche Bank because of a baby on the way was incorrect.

His wife had the baby yesterday so it looks like he plans to play at the moment though I guess that could change

I hope you crush it – always fun to see RGers up there!

Note that when I said I was putting more in this week, all I meant was that I went from 16 lineups to like 38 – still a low count (for me) and 500-600 total entries.

When I pooped the bed a few weeks ago, I was in closer to 2k entries and ~160 lineups.

I am still like 1/4 of the buyin I was that week, ugh.

Haven’t people said here the guys who just had kids tend to come out and crush it?
Sounds like my Na fade is a bad idea if that is correct.

PGA needs to make a Danny Willett rule because him skipping these last 2 events is completely unfair to a golfer on the bubble. Not to mention for the #126 golfer playing in these FedEx events would be huge for their careers. Doesn’t seem right.

Well if they wanted to get in they had plenty of chances to get inside`125. Have to draw the line somewhere and the players that played well to get in have that right to rest up if they are assured to move on without playing.

Webb Simpson withdraws from PGA Championship after wife goes into labor. Returns to golf 2 weeks later at the Dean & Deluca. I stacked him that week with Spieth simply because of the baby. He finishes 3rd. His first top 10 in about 9 months. He finishes 11th the next week.

Yea it’s kinda like when Peyton manning earns his team first round bye throughout playoffs he just sits

  • golerjsh69

I concur with slpanthers24. Tiger used to do the same thing because he would have such a points lead that he could make it in the tour championship without playing any more playoff events. They tried to fix this by making the playoff events count quadruple points so everyone would be forced to play but in some cases it still will allow people to rest/take weeks off.

Except by bot playing this week, Willett is out. He’s outside the top 70 so he just said no thanks.

With this being the last week of the season, i’m just doing 1 lineup. Putting it in the $1,500 tourney and $10 in Jim’s Rotogrinder game.

I put in a handful of Na lineups just in case

For the first time I focused a large stack on AM golfers. Tired of seeing that am/pm stat that has seen a clear difference.
I understand about the weather conditions. My only issue is that DJ does not seem to be really sharp with early tee times.

Maybe I am mistaken – but I thought they set it up so that the guys who go out the first day AM go out the next day PM?
If so, doesn’t that negate the advantage?

I agree totally, the Fed Ex Cup Playoffs are unique and different – firstly getting in is a reward for finishing in Top 125 and keeping tour card the old fashioned way (by earning it over a season of play) – for this reason guys who would have qualified by other means (ex. Cauley, Marino and Rahm) are excluded.

While everyone knows that the Fed Ex Cup points winner after the Tour Championship receives $10M, what you may not know is that there is a ton of money paid all the way down to the 125th spot in final points (after Tour Championship) so while Lowry and Willet skipped the playoffs, they will still get a nice check. I used to have a photo of what the payouts were but think it was lost on my old iPad – I’ll see if I can resurrect the payouts.

The last few years the winner of the Tour Championship also won the Fed Ex Cup so that is about an $11.5M payday (the tournament winnings plus the $10M Fed Ex bonus money).

I don’t think we should let in extra players as it has been common (as stated already) for players to skip an event when high up in standings – I know Sergio has done that a couple times in the past. Also, this is part of the reason they have an off week in the middle or after 3rd event to give the guys a break who played a ton trying to get in and not have to play 4 more in a row.

I don’t agree with Willet and Lowry getting cash from Fed Ex and not supporting their events but these guys have personal lives, scheduling and injury issues plus they earned those points so I guess they deserve the cash – just the fans get cheated.

Yes correct for 1st two rounds (and most use split tees to minimize it as well) but weather not always the same both days so some events can have a disadvantage by being late on the wrong day.

Some Euro events send everyone off the 1st tee for like 7+ hours (ex. Open Championship) so tee time advantage/disadvantage is much more common plus weather there is often more of an impact as well.

100 isn’t exactly a small field and these is a cut. Maybe we should repeat that on every page.
