I just received a text stating that Tuesday is make or break for a law to be passed in Texas regarding Fantasy Sports.

    Quote from Text:

So far, it hasn’t been enough. Tuesday is make or break for TX fantasy sports! Ask your lawmaker to support
    HB-1457. Call 512-640-2300, you’ll be patched thru.

It doesn’t sound good in TX. My suggestion would be for anyone living in Texas to call this number.

If TX gets banned from Fantasy Sports it will be a big blow to the industry.

You guys are much more optimistic than me. I don’t see how DK stays in TX considering their upcoming merger with FD and that the AG has considered this illegal. I hope I am wrong.

I mean money is really important. I think I read somewhere that Texas accounts for 1/8th of DK’s revenue and essentially if DK decided to leave that would mean they are giving up the fight and when legislation comes along again in 2019 it probably would not look the best.

    hoping it stays

I may be wrong, but i think Fanduel may make a play to get back in Texas now. I don’t think they want to wait another 2 years before getting back in on Texas.

  • EadesScience

Well Shucks! So is Texas still good for 2 more years with DK?

Hope some of you that are more optimistic than me are right because I’m worried. Having to hold off 2 more years of legal uncertainty, lawsuits, etc., worries me about the sites sticking in Texas. Hopefully the financial pull of Texas outweighs the risks for the sites. Can’t believe couldn’t even get the Bill to a vote on the floor in a state that preaches limited government – we’ll preach limited government but then we’ll step in on fantasy sports. Such BS.

They are going to be the same company anyway so why not get back into Texas.

Is there still a chance that the Senate Bill comes up for a vote or has the time passed for that one as well?

My understand is that it’s not quite dead, but on life support. We need MAJOR mobilization and phone calls from players in the State. I’m confident if this can come up for a vote, it will pass. We saw mobilization work in New York…..and it’s a MUST for Texas right now if we want this to pass.

Was told to keep on firing messages and to keep the pressure on despite the negative news yesterday so as always DB is on point. Have also heard confidence that Bill would pass IF can just get it for a vote. Some of the names rattled off to me to keep on firing positive messages towards were Hunter, Speaker Straus, Richard Raymond, Sen. Kolkhorst, among others. I definitely don’t want to rely on the sites just taking the risk and operating in legal limbo for 2 more years so let’s give one last push.

  • jcrowlonghorn

There is a sister bill regarding fantasy sports (SB 1970) that could still be voted on, but like HB 1457 it very likely could get stalled to the point it doesn’t get voted on.

  • jcrowlonghorn

Guys and gals, I have personally made the mistake of not acting in the past for things I felt strongly about. I get it, it’s a pain to call all these numbers. That being said, the ONLY way this thing has any shot is if we ALL take action. If you feel that strongly about your desire to continue playing fantasy sports in Texas, please take the time to make the calls. They won’t take but about 15 mins of your time and all the representatives (or their admins) that I have spoken to have been very polite. Many of them have been surprised at the support behind this bill, but we need to keep calling and letting them know it’s not just a small pocket of people that want this bill to pass. We feel the bill has more than the needed support to be passed, but it absolutely has to get scheduled for vote or it’s dead in the water. It is NOT too late. Please keep calling for all of our sakes. Don’t assume that someone else will make that call for you.

I think its probably smart for you to use your own words in their email template. I’m not a fan of the one that is currently populating:

“C’mon – this has to be a joke. Washington DC is already a nightmare where they can’t get anything done, and now I’m reading that the fantasy sports bill – can’t even get a vote? “

    Take action folks!!

I called Donna Howard’s office and Roberto Alonso’s Office, and they both said the deadline was yesterday. Hopefully, some of you are getting different answers.

The only answer I got was the same as has been posted. The Senate bill could still be brought to a vote but not likely to happen. I could be wrong but didn’t DK file suit against the AG just to remain in Texas? If that’s true, I don’t see why they would pull out before a definitive bill is voted on.

Also while digging through all the bills, was nice to see that they voted on a bill to regulate the 2nd hand sales of wristwatches. You know that’s the kind of shit that can crush the budget of a state government. Glad it’s finally being regulated. Hopefully a bill will be presented regarding the correct way to tie your shoes. I say make velcro the state mandated shoe material.

  • yisman

yeah they voted on plenty of minor things but apparently they won’t vote on this

agreed, next bill should be to make velcro mandatory

all we can do is hope

    @markoeasylb said...

I agree billholler – one point to add DK has never pulled out after a bill didn’t get voted on.

Yes but did they sell any watches second hand?

I just called. Antonio took down my info(name/address, etc.) and was rather polite. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a sense that there was much traction in getting the bill on the floor. :(

Based on a tweet I saw, House has until Thursday?

    https://twitter.com/jayleeson/status/862380942035386368

Need to keep on hounding Todd Hunter with positive messages encouraging him to get moving and also mix in some messages to Joan Huffman and Dan Patrick.

  • ballabal

I called my representative again and my senator. I also mentioned other bills I am interest in. It seems that they have time to look at unimportant stuff, but somehow forget about things like DFS and bigger stuff like school finance reform. BTW, I am in the middle of a job search and am thinking about moving out of TX. I know Colorado is OK for DFS. How about OH, PA, KY and NC?
