I just received a text stating that Tuesday is make or break for a law to be passed in Texas regarding Fantasy Sports.

    Quote from Text:

So far, it hasn’t been enough. Tuesday is make or break for TX fantasy sports! Ask your lawmaker to support
    HB-1457. Call 512-640-2300, you’ll be patched thru.

It doesn’t sound good in TX. My suggestion would be for anyone living in Texas to call this number.

If TX gets banned from Fantasy Sports it will be a big blow to the industry.

who do we ask to find out what the story is? Status quo I guess as DK isn’t planning on pulling out.

Anyone have an update regarding DFS in Texas? Haven’t heard back from any of our legislators lately and the forum hasn’t had a new post for over a week so….

I inquired with DK recently about the possibility of releasing a statement to Texas residents regarding their future plans in Texas so we can have a little clarity, comfort, and closure. DK responded that they cant address the matter now and can only do so when the time is “appropriate.” As one of their VIP players, I usually receive a more specific response to inquiries. I think their answer regarding their future plans in Texas has a little something to do with their pending merger with FD. Anyway, Just to reiterate, I’m curious as to what any of you all may know at this point about DFS’s future in Texas. Hit the thread up if you have heard anything qualitative. Thanks.

Doesn’t look good for getting thru this session. Also the last qoute is rather telling, and annoying.

“I’m at my son’s football game and not at the Capitol,” said Robert Kohler, a lobbyist for the Christian Life Commission of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. “That shows you how worried I am about it.”

If nothing happens this time, we can still play yahoo, draftkings and fantasydraft. Texas legislature only meets for like 4.5 months every 2 years. If it don’t get passed this time, we don’t have to worry again till jan-may 2019. Unless of course a special session is called which only Abbott can do.

Man we are anything but safe. For one, the Texas AG could pursue legal action against sites still operating in Texas and force them to stop operations in Texas.

  • geardaddy

I mean if the bill is “dead”. How does it not mean we’re safe for at least until 2019? if they don’t care enough to look at the bill why would they care to pursue DK for legal action?

Even after the merger, dk is the bigger of the 2 sites. I can not see DK not taking deposits from Texas unless they lose in court. The sites may not even survive without Texas.

    It’s safe until 2019.

I highly doubt Paxton will have DFS on his mind considering some of the other things going on in his life right now lol
