So Seth Yates ran 3 SB pools on twitter. Took 3 K from all different people via PayPal and Venmo and never paid out the winners. He hasn’t tweeted since Super Bowl Sunday but has been active on RG as early as yesterday. I wasn’t a victim but he just screwed 3 K from members of the DFS community and maybe some people in this very forum. He was an Active poster on RG and also wrote a few columns in the past. Anyone hear anything? The guy use to tweet everyday all day and now nothing. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

  • afxx

It’s far less about getting the 3k back. If he scammed (almost certainly) then it’s highly unlikely anything anyone does increases the likelihood of getting the money back. People who scam, especially with previous standing in a community, are almost certainly in some sort of financial trouble to resort to such behavior. What it does do, however, is help prevent such occurrences by the person in the future.

If you came from poker, you would know that standard behavior for dealing with scammers used to be public silence, instead dealing the scammer privately in hope of increasing the likelihood that you will eventually get paid (usually this DOES increase the likelihood of that, so you are correct there). What would often happen, though, was eventually someone would get fed up after failing to get paid after a certain amount of time, and make past transgressions public, only to find out very quickly that there was a SLEW of others who were also owed money by said person. So, by attempting to recoup one’s stolen money – often futilely – people allowed the scammer to continue to steal. 3k turns to 20k to 50k to… fairly quickly when everyone remains silent.

So if Seth is a scammer and thief, which seems increasingly likely, then shout it from the rooftops so that everyone who could possibly interact with him knows not to trust him around their money. 3k be damned, people will almost certainly never see that money again, no matter what approach you take when dealing with him.

I just wanted to add my point of view in as I’ve been following this and sat aside just reading this all. I’m not ever active on this community but follow a lot and have been playing for years. I started following Seth a while back like many others for his preseason dfs picks for football and grew to love his content because it was the odd ball stuff. I also joined his twitter super bowl boxes this year for the first year unfortunately lol. But I knew something was off right away. He was very late and non responsive with issues and questions about them which I knew was Avery unlike him. Then the last box was hand written out? Seemed very suspect to me at the time but never answered any of my dms about it. He kinda screwed me and separated my boxes on different boards when payment was sent all at once for same board. He didn’t care something was up and because of my experience in this all I kinda do believe that it was planned or he screwed up in some kind of way with the money betting but something was off from day one of these boxes this year for a fact. That is all lol. Thanks guys.

thanx for the insight — ^

hopefully he didn’t have this trying to recover the $2,750+ he owes currently from what I’ve gathered — but #GODSPEED 2 Mr. Yates and hopefully in time every1 will get squared up =

See, NOW this thread is starting to discuss real important things!

And to answer your question: Everything.

But I wouldn’t take my opinion too seriously… I’m 30 and still drink Natural Light on the regular.

I’m more intrigued by this… who’s gonna run the CSV?

  • Wander_Bread

This was a great read. By far the most absurd and hilarious part was squirrelpatrol insinuating that he was busted by the authorities for running a $10 squares pool LOL

Hopefully, people will learn a lesson. Don’t PayPal a stranger money. These SB box games are all over the place every year. You can find tons of them to play through people you work with or have some relationship with other than an internet familiarity.

I understand the premise but I disagree a little bit here. Obviously do not send any substantial money to a “stranger” via Paypal or any other method. But I think having a community where we can run pools among ourselves is good entertainment. Obviously when a situation like Seth happens, it puts a damper on it and ruins it for others.

I’ve run a March Madness Knockout pool for many years (and also a World Cup Pool) and expanded it to this site for the last 4 years. I always pay out the day after the final game (or as soon as any chop is agreed). I fully expect this to hurt the attendance this year if I decide to run it again. Which might be a blessing in disguise as it is becoming more time consuming the bigger it gets. But I’ve entered countless pools with “strangers” over the years and have never had an issue, including ones run by Seth in the past.

At the end of the day, I don’t know Seth but have interacted with him on twitter. I hope he just got into a bind, whether it is due to the DUI, work, family, gambling problem, etc and he spent/lost the money with the full intention to recoup it and pay it out ASAP. But if that is the case, it would serve him best to just own up to it and be honest. And if he did run off the money, I hope it was for a really good reason. Seems pretty damn low to rip people off over $3k.

The real slap in the face is that he is literally treating everyone like they are stupid with the ridiculous story about his friend taking his phone bc he is in rehab. He actually wrote that whole thing up thinking it would work and everyone was too dumb to figure it out.

Dude, you’re busted. Come clean. Save what little face you have left here. The truths gonna come out eventually so just get it over with.

Right, but to me that comes off as a post to buy time. If he was planning to just take the money and run, why would he make that post? He very well may have been in rehab at some point but it has nothing to do with why he has not paid out this block pool. I believe there is still hope though that he recoups the money and pays it out. But he’s doing himself zero favors by not being honest about it.

You aren’t allowed to comment on beer’s quality or lack thereof when you drink Natural Light/Ice regularly.

I want to believe there’s some truth because it’s hard for me to understand how $3,000 is worth ruining your reputation for. As said on Twitter, it’s the lack of communication of it all that makes it hard to believe.

But L.O.L. to the guy who said this becomes main stream news.

I do not drink Natural Ice so therefore your comment is invalid.

I’m typically a bud light guy for the most part…. natty light when I’m really trying to make bad decisions

And don’t let these facts deter you from sethyates being white, stealing money, and the FBI possibly having a sting operation for a $3k squares pool. GET FOCUSED!

You make excellent points Squirrel. However, if Seth is in rehab and not scrolling RG and the Internet, he won’t see this until he is better, if at all. Everyone wins. Cynics (me included) post on here for a day and then go away. Seth gets better and by the time he comes out and gets access to a smartphone again, this thread will be long dead. I think the bigger issue that everyone should be concerned with is that it is slowly turning into Marcus Smart chalk night. That should scare all of us.

you have great posting tempo and style… and yes that marcus smart chalk got me too… and i would have gotten away with it if it hadnt been for you meddling kids

My point still stands if you drink Bud Light. Also, you said you drink Natural Ice…:
‘But I wouldn’t take my opinion too seriously… I’m 30 and still drink Natural Light on the regular.’
Either way, just being funny and beer-snobbish. I don’t take it seriously, people drink what they drink and like what they like.

I’m a little disappointed squirrel stopped posting and defending his position/stance. It was quite amusing.

WTF? “Ice” isn’t even mentioned anywhere in the entire paragraph.

3k can be a lot of money for someone in a big hole with their local who doesn’t fuck around

This is also true. Not to mention he could be down significantly more than that to his bookie and he may have agreed to settle at 3K

I’m still leaning towards massive, massive credit card debt and other financial issues. Took the $3k for an “easy bet” to help.. lost it, and now is even more screwed than before.

The “this is his friend posting from his RG account” is obvious bs.
