So Seth Yates ran 3 SB pools on twitter. Took 3 K from all different people via PayPal and Venmo and never paid out the winners. He hasn’t tweeted since Super Bowl Sunday but has been active on RG as early as yesterday. I wasn’t a victim but he just screwed 3 K from members of the DFS community and maybe some people in this very forum. He was an Active poster on RG and also wrote a few columns in the past. Anyone hear anything? The guy use to tweet everyday all day and now nothing. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Referring to waiting for payday. Well , think about it. He is /was a govt contractor. They get paid the 1st and 15th of the month. Also, they are owed back pay from the shutdown. You may be on to something here.

actually arent most governemnt contractors not eligible for backpay?

I know one of my friends was pretty jammed up over this as he moved and got hit with first month/last month rent, deposit, and moving expenses all at the same time he stopped receiving paychecks and he is not eligible for backpay

What the hell are you talking about? You literally just quoted me word for word and it says “I’m 30 and still drink Natural Light on the regular.”

WTF? “Ice” isn’t even mentioned anywhere in the entire paragraph.

Calm down sir, I was simply lumping together Natural Light and Natural Ice. Brain-fart on my end still not recognizing the light vs ice part, haha.

I feel bad for everyone who lost money to this thief, and I hope you all eventually somehow get it back. For those few trying to defend or make excuses for Seth:

But he was a nice guy. He complimented me. He groomed me. He brought me into his lair.

    I disagree 100%.

    This was WELL worth $10.

You can’t even see a movie for $10 anymore, this has provided DAYS of entertainment.

If this were as simple as him being a government employee and being screwed by the shutdown, I’m sure he would have been happy to let everyone know that on here and Twitter. That’s about as likely as him being in FBI custody for running a SB Squares game.

I did not have any money in this but for me the worst part now is doing NCAA pools with people I don’t know has me a little worried I wont see the money! One bad apple can ruin them all.

But I tend to agree with most, guessing he did something along those lines of betting a sure winner to make some money and it lost and he is trying to figure out how to cover it. Like can you imagine doing the $3k in ncaa on the money line of all 4 #1 seeds winning their first game in the tourney…..

the oldest scam in the book is NCAA march madness pools… why do you think someone’s wife who “picked teams based on their colors” always wins?

It’s because that is who the contest organizer split your money with…

We used to have a guy at the office who ran $10 College football pick’ems every week…. it was hilarious… there was zero transparency as to who everyone picked and not ONCE in years did anyone who worked there actually win… i couldnt believe people kept entering this thing… every week his uncle’s neighbor had somehow picked Rice to beat Nebraska

This is also true. Not to mention he could be down significantly more than that to his bookie and he may have agreed to settle at 3K

I’m still leaning towards massive, massive credit card debt and other financial issues. Took the $3k for an “easy bet” to help.. lost it, and now is even more screwed than before.

The “this is his friend posting from his RG account” is obvious bs.

As I stated desperate people will keep doing desperate things. People who keep saying he wouldn’t do this and that over 3K don’t know his situation.

I like where you are going here Flip; an eye for an eye – he messes with people’s financials and now we mess with his !!

When we are done with him, the $3K is going to be nothing in comparison to Divorce, Court/Legal costs, Division of Assets, Child Support Payments, Loss of Job and Future Opportunities.

All that could have been unnecessary if he didn’t take us all for idiots and if didn’t just tell the truth and come clean instead of taking 10 days to come up with a BS “I’m a victim” story where a “friend” had his phone while he was in rehab.

    Go get ‘me boys !!

    Public Shaming – check
Get to the truth – check
    Get him fired – soon
Someone kicks the shit out of him – we can only hope !

I’m sorry guys but I have zero tolerance for this.

i dont disagree with this… i would say though the initial goal should be to recover the money.

Whenever I’ve had things like this happen to me inthe past the first person i call is their parents and kindly ask for the money. You’d be surprised how often that works. I cant recall once being told to get bent… i did have a few say they were sorry they had bailed that child out for the last time and they were not accepting responsibility for the debt. Fair enough, after all its not their debt. But it certainly never hurt me to ASK for the money. The mother/father want to make their family name right in a lot of cases.

The next step is the threat of a small claims court filing which only costs around ~$100. I’ve filed approximately ~12 of these in my life…and won all 12… but ive threatened to file it hundreds of times and gotten paid on probabbly 1/3rd of them before it came to that. Many of these i had probably no case and would have lost if i had actually filed it.

Its never worth it to threaten physical violence as you can be arrested for that or someone might take you up on your offer in a manner you don’t want to engage in. Ive done a lot of that too and it’s not effective at getting the money back either if that is your objective. But for me, i cant help myself sometimes. Bad temper.

Correct- Most Gov’t Contractors were not repaid- However, Government employees got a big lump check for the 2 checks they were owed. Also- if they were on vacation or used sick leave during the furlough they were not charged- Big difference between GOV employees and GOV contractors. No idea which one Seth was.

Right, but to me that comes off as a post to buy time. If he was planning to just take the money and run, why would he make that post? He very well may have been in rehab at some point but it has nothing to do with why he has not paid out this block pool. I believe there is still hope though that he recoups the money and pays it out. But he’s doing himself zero favors by not being honest about it.

Absolutely he is buying time. It just toys with people when you play the whole story about being in rehab. Maybe he was in rehab, I don’t know and honestly don’t care. Everyone has problems in some form or fashion. I don’t believe he ever set out looking to scam $3k away from people but the ghosting for 9 days and then coming up with the ridiculous story is way worse IMO than the initial $3k.

If he comes on yesterday and says “Guys, I have a terrible drinking problem and have been in rehab for the last 10 days. I don’t have the money but I am going make this right with everyone and I am very sorry” people would accept that bc everyone has flaws and issues and they can relate to it on some level. Even if its a complete and utter lie (the rehab part) its way better than the BS he pulled with his buddy having his phone but it doesn’t have his twitter password saved. this is 2019! Who on earth doesn’t have every single password saved in their phone??

It’s far less about getting the 3k back. If he scammed (almost certainly) then it’s highly unlikely anything anyone does increases the likelihood of getting the money back. People who scam, especially with previous standing in a community, are almost certainly in some sort of financial trouble to resort to such behavior. What it does do, however, is help prevent such occurrences by the person in the future.

If you came from poker, you would know that standard behavior for dealing with scammers used to be public silence, instead dealing the scammer privately in hope of increasing the likelihood that you will eventually get paid (usually this DOES increase the likelihood of that, so you are correct there). What would often happen, though, was eventually someone would get fed up after failing to get paid after a certain amount of time, and make past transgressions public, only to find out very quickly that there was a SLEW of others who were also owed money by said person. So, by attempting to recoup one’s stolen money – often futilely – people allowed the scammer to continue to steal. 3k turns to 20k to 50k to… fairly quickly when everyone remains silent.

So if Seth is a scammer and thief, which seems increasingly likely, then shout it from the rooftops so that everyone who could possibly interact with him knows not to trust him around their money. 3k be damned, people will almost certainly never see that money again, no matter what approach you take when dealing with him.

Yes this is exactly 100% accurate…. anyone who spent even a cursory amount of time on 2+2 forums knows all too well…

the best were the stories of “backers” funding guys entry into poker tournmanets…. invariably the guy would finally win a tournament (or finish high) and they’d go to the cage to collect the winnings only to see 15 other people standing at the cage who had all staked theplayer in previous tournaments that he owed money to

The best scam is the one where you ask 20 different people to back you into a tournament… then you just lose all your chips on purpose…. and keep the extra 19 buyins you didnt use…. you cant cash in the tournament because if you do that then 20 people will be expecting winnings!

  • Messiah717

Seth now blew his chance at coming clean after that ridiculous post from his “friend”. People would understand somebody being in a jam and having a rough time at the moment if they’re honest about it.

Why the HELL have you been in a position of having to file a dozen small claims cases in your life and threaten hundreds more? You either associate with the wrong people or are WAY too litigation-happy. I’m guessing the latter.

If you want some additional proof that Seth constructed the ‘seth’s friend’ message. . . Just look at the writing style. I can’t recall seeing any other person address a message like this->

“ Hi everyone: “ using the the full colon. post on Feb 13

“For Dean: “ same style in his post on Feb 2nd

I think we can close this case now.

    2. Who shot JR?
    3. Where’s Waldo?
4 Will Seth ever come clean?

I work in the same place Seth does and can tell you that next to nobody here was not working during the most recent shutdown. Almost all of the work done here falls under DOD which is fully funded for the year.
