So Seth Yates ran 3 SB pools on twitter. Took 3 K from all different people via PayPal and Venmo and never paid out the winners. He hasn’t tweeted since Super Bowl Sunday but has been active on RG as early as yesterday. I wasn’t a victim but he just screwed 3 K from members of the DFS community and maybe some people in this very forum. He was an Active poster on RG and also wrote a few columns in the past. Anyone hear anything? The guy use to tweet everyday all day and now nothing. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Referring to waiting for payday. Well , think about it. He is /was a govt contractor. They get paid the 1st and 15th of the month. Also, they are owed back pay from the shutdown. You may be on to something here.

  • djjoeyg

Wouldn’t you pay some of the guys that won small amounts to keep some of the heat off and attempt to show good faith? Then make excuses to buy some time for the larger payouts? That is assuming you do plan on reemerging online/DFS and you didn’t blow 3k on a prop bet after pounding jager bombs all day.

What’s his incentive at this point to send anonymous people their money back?

His incentive is he will have done the right thing. He will have fulfilled a promise. These things make the world a better place.

If you have his phone, why not log into PayPal with lost password? Email will come to his phone and change it to your liking. You can hold it for him and I’m sure he will be happy you settled his debts.

I’m sorry, I just completely disagree. If he cared about his standing in the DFS community more than the $3K, he would have just paid the pool out like he was supposed to, right? What would his standing be now after not paying, going completely silent on Twitter, posting “from a friend” that he was in rehab, and then being exposed as a liar? Certainly the $3K is worth more than his standing now.

I disagree with you there. Even though he seemingly has dug himself into a deeper hole, he can still emerge from this with some dignity if he pays out. When you’ve piled lies upon lies, I think most people realize what it takes to “man up” and face the music. Now if he keeps digging his hole deeper, that is a different story.

Wow. This has been quite a day. Haha I honestly think the dude just tried to make some money with the squares fees. Probably tried to put it on a “lock” like a bet that the Rams would score at least 2 TDs or something with a very modest payout and then got burned. Rather than own up, he’s buying time until pay day where I expect he’ll do the right thing. He likely didn’t expect it to blow up like this and become the talk of the DFS community over night and so he panicked and created the story (after seeing people found the “last visited Feb 11” on his RG account.

Full disclosure, I entered his SB squares on one $10 entry and won for one of the quarters. I also entered his March Madness Squares last year and that went off without a hitch (so I get the whole idea that this likely wasn’t intended to be a scam).

Definitely not here to lambast the guy, but really do hope he knows that he’ll take a ribbing but in the end, most people will just laugh and think it was a dumb move by someone who is generally a pretty good dude (from all accounts on his twitter/rg accounts) as long as he makes things right.

Oh… and he probably shouldn’t do any March Madness Squares this year.

This thread is like the Wild West of RG. The sooner you guys realize you money went to Miller high life and cocaine the easier it will be.

$3k really gets you a shit ton of High Life.

Good point, except back pay was already paid out.

    What does the “pressuring” accomplish?

Alerting people to the fact he’s a THIEF and not to be trusted. If he values his “standing” in the DFS community, then he’ll own up; if not, he won’t.. Either way – thieves are to be called out. Reputation MATTERS.

This is you in the future:

“I’m not surprised he stole your money; he’s stolen from people before. There was no point in mentioning it to you because the other people weren’t going to be made whole, so I just shut up about it.” ..

I don’t understand the logic. You’re going to show up at his house? The local newspaper is going to write a story about a guy on the internet who organized a $3,000 Super Bowl Squares pool and then didn’t pay out? What does the “pressuring” accomplish?

You underestimate the power of the internet. If this situation isnt resolved within a week or two, yes, this is going to make mainstream media news. Squares contests are very popular. The Superbowl is very popular. This has already been picked up by news on twitter. It’s only a matter of time before this makes mainstream news.

Fair enough, if this gets into the mainstream news and people are able to get their money back, then great. I think it’s more likely that 100 or so people in the DFS community are agitated until NBA games start and then everyone forgets.

  • leib0039

I did not have any money in this but for me the worst part now is doing NCAA pools with people I don’t know has me a little worried I wont see the money! One bad apple can ruin them all.

But I tend to agree with most, guessing he did something along those lines of betting a sure winner to make some money and it lost and he is trying to figure out how to cover it. Like can you imagine doing the $3k in ncaa on the money line of all 4 #1 seeds winning their first game in the tourney…..

You might be on to something with this. Pure speculation obviously. But it is possible to do something like that while getting wasted. Not defending it but it is very possible. We’ve all been there. By “we” I meant me. Using my own money of course.

Ah good catch. I saw government and was basing my answer on that. I do not know for contractors. Government employees for sure unless my friends in a couple different jobs in the government are special cases.
