While I think it’s a bit ridiculous for them to offer E-Sports. There is a very big market for this.

ESPN has been promoting eSports for months, even airing an eSport championship for Heroes of The Storm on ESPN2 back in April. Here is a recent article from ESPN the magazine regarding the rapid growth of eSports. The numbers are amazing. http://espn.go.com/espn/story/_/id/13059210/esports-massive-industry-growing

I’m all over this if they add CS. I played quite a bit on vulcun and alphadraft. Vulcun has more action, but their game formats(salary, games included, etc) are terrible.

The tournaments now-a-days are not held online, thus no risk of DDosing. The tournaments are held at venues, such as Staples Center, Madison Square Garden, Mercedes-Benz Arena (Germany), and last year the World Championships were held at Seoul World Cup Stadium. Imagine Dragons also opened up the show last year.

The 2015 League of Legends world championships start in October, with the world finals this year being held in Germany on 10/31. Teams from around the world have played through their regular seasons in their respective regions, and will all meet up to crown the world champion. First place takes home 1Million.

I have been an avid follower of eSports for a few years now, so if anyone has any glaring questions I can try my best to answer them. All I would say is don’t be so naive with this, there is a HUGE market for this. The championships will draw millions of viewers world wide and sell out every arena they touch.

Just like any other sport, you will be picking the pros with salary caps.

Here is a brief overview on the World Championships this year – http://worlds.lolesports.com/en_US/worlds/about

Speaking from the perspective of CS the major problem is there aren’t LANs every week and even if there are they aren’t formatted in a way conducive to fantasy.

For fantasy you really need to have the site partnered with a league(ESEA, CEVO, Faceit, etc) and have them schedule BO1 matches all on 1 day.

Vulcun is so bad they include both halves of a double header even if other teams are only playing 1 game that day.
It would be exactly like including 2 games in MLB for a team despite other teams only playing 1 game.

Yea, CS:GO will be a little more difficult just because there isn’t a a defined schedule year-round like League. With that said, I would assume the “majors” will most definitely be picked up by DK.

People can say the same thing about DFS. “WTF why would you put real money on fake sports.”

Guys, esports is the future. You can act oblivious to it all you want, but league of legends is the most popular game in the world and is only growing.

There’s a huge pro scene, the big events have millions of viewers. Please don’t pull a Colin Cowherd and disregard esports just because you don’t follow it or don’t game.

It’s good for the industry regardless, the market for dfs is pretty raw in the esports industry and dk can hit a home run with this. Good for them.

They are starting with the game titled League of Legends. It’s the most played game, world-wide and has the most established eSports scene at the moment. Other games that should be included down the road will be Counterstrike: Global Offensive, and DOTA:2.

League of Legends (LoL) is the game that is holding it’s world championships next month, so the timing by DK is fitting.

Stats coverage is also a problem. The current sites manually input stats despite receiving millions in funding which boggles my mind. Then final stats are literally just copy pasted from hltv.org.

They’ve gone hours with no final stats simply because it took that long for hltv.org to log them.
