There is not an endless supply of players anymore – raising the rake kills off some (or a lot) of your long term sustainability. If they get too greedy, they will kill them self. If they really want to go public and have sustainability, the rake will not go up and possibly could even get flatter between low dollar entry and high dollar entry.

Whatever, I don’t want to argue my thoughts or the point any further but this thread like many on here always seem to lean to the negative or a conspiracy theory of some sort.

Why do people think these 2 companies will figure it out and stop being greedy? They are run by young, inexperienced business people who are trying to make the most money possible. If they actually cared about sustaining a product they would have taken greater lengths to actually make a business model that makes it welcoming to new players and not allow them to get destroyed by the few greatly profitable players who they solely cater to. It is their greed that got them into this situation to begin with.

According to bloomberg, they think it will be united under DK CEO. Article found below:

  • 7thdaymoneytime

While there may be announcements and such soon, I don’t think any actual pieces will begin moving until 2017. Also, the Bloomberg article seems to imply we may be looking at an entirely new company/site altogether (ie not Draftduel/Fankings.)

This realization just hit me too! Texans would be left with Yahoo. Fantasy Aces, and Fantasy Draft. I guess I will be reading more books in the near future.

Withdraw your money and put in savings then deposit as needed. Waaaay to risky to leave big dollars uninsured with businesses like this.

  • Chuky

It will be good for them to pool resources but I don’t think regulators are going to agree with this deal. All other fantasy sites would be put out of business. Advertising spending last year crippled DK and FD.

    DraftDuel? FanKings. FanDraft? KingsDuel?

Fantasy Draft already exists, so it won’t be FanDraft.
DraftDuel is too close to Draft Day.

I’d bet they pick a new name and re-brand it. Why they would pick the DK CEO to head it all, I do not understand. That seems like a poor play. Next they’re going to come out and say that the new merged company is going to keep both DK and FD PR teams/firms. LOL!

A lot of companies use the term “merger” to save face for the other company when it’s actually an acquisition. I’m not saying that’s the case here since we don’t have details, but if the DK CEO remains CEO, that’s somewhat telling.

The other thing – why rebrand yourself? They spent millions of dollars trying to get the DraftKings name and brand out there. I would just keep it.

What if the FD CEO gets to be the chairman of the board? Does that make it more of a merger and less of an acquisition? Seems to fit with Nigel Eccles’ reputation as someone who wants to be an emperor. Chairman of the Board is such an exalted title.

As for the branding, for what it’s worth, I’ve always hated DK’s color scheme and their logo. I’ve always assumed the name “Draftkings” came from some research that suggested most of the fun people have playing fantasy comes from drafting, so they chose a name which emphasizes the drafting aspect aspect of their product – “draft a new team every day!” – and then add something aggrandizing to appeal to all the misanthropic, ego-driven action junkies out there. Other sites went with the competitive aspect, so you get all these “joust” and “duel” sites, with variations of “fan” or “friend” or “daily.”

All in all, there’s a pretty sad lack of creativity in the naming of these companies, so the new site should be something along the lines of “Daily Social Competition that is Definitely Not Gambling” or “Fantasy Level Playing Field For Casual Users” or “Draft We Thought We Would Get Rich from an IPO and are Desperately Hoping This Step Can Help Us Salvage Something” or “Fan Play for Fun Not Money but Be Willing to Lose a Lot of Money”

Finally read through all this. Why so many doomsday folks? Yeah they are going to merge with the intention of killing a multi-billion dollar industry. You don’t have that kind of many at risk and merge without a very good plan.

  • Supersharpie

What special impact will this have for Texans? I’m confused.

That was my first question on page 1. Can’t believe they would kill one of the legal “swing” states just because of a merger.

So currently, besides Draftkings what are best site options (personal opinions) for Texas residents in NFL and NBA?

so much negativity and really ridiculous comments about DFS coming to a end. You really think these companies spend millions of dollars to fight and win a court battle to just fold up and go away. I personally don’t like the idea of the merger, but I think this will open the door for some other companies with money to come along and challenge DK and Fanduel. The reason they are merging in my opinion is for that reason to be honest. Lots of this big companies/ rich individuals sat back and let these 2 fight a court battle legalizing this. Once all the little rules laws are ironed out I could see others investing in this billion dollar industry with other sites opening. Merging would keep the owners of DK/FD on top for the time being.

  • BigRay

I can see why they are merging. I just read an article stating the traffic is down on Fanduel and Draftkings about 80% from last year for NFL. That is a lot of rake to make up.
